PrinceWatercress plays McDonald's Treasureland Adventure - Part 1 of 4

Did somebody say McDonalds? Or Treasure? Or Sega?

One day, as Ronald was walking through the magical forest, he found a small piece of paper under a big tree. He learns it is a piece of a a treasure map, and wonders where the rest of the map is. Unbeknownst to him, three bad guys had the other map pieces. Ronald decides to go on a treasure hunt.

Stage 1: Magical Forest

The Expert difficult gives you less health and more enemies than Beginner does. If you're good at platformers, though, Expert will feel more like "Medium."

From left to right, you have the difficulty you're playing on as well as your current health, the amount of red flowers you have, the amount of white flowers you have, the amount of balloons you have, your current attack power, the current amount of gold you have, the amount of lives you have and the amount of continues you have.

The bags of money give you money that you can use in the shops. Silver bags give you 50 gold, while gold bags give you 300. Other items also provide a set amount of gold when picked up. White flowers refill your health if you find three of them.

The enemies here are pretty simple, but the red shell enemies are only vulnerable to your attacks when they are not hiding in their shells. Also, the gnomes can summon thunder clouds that will try to zap you. Enemies also drop flowers - both yellow and white - when defeated, so be ready to grab those.

The Control Pad lets you move around and duck, A lets you use the Scarf, B lets you attack and C lets you jump. The scarf lets you grab onto hooks above you. You can only aim it straight upwards. Holding the button down will let you move around ziplines, and Up and Down on the Control Pad allow you to extend and shorten the length of the scarf so you can move Ronald up and down while on the hook.

The spinning tile with the magic sparkles on it increases your attack power by one. On Level 1, it travels straight ahead, but on Level 2, it has a bit of a sine wave pattern and is a little more powerful.

Picking up red jewels will refill your health outright, and the amount of red jewels there are in a cluster indicated how much health you're going to get back.

The yellow flowers will recover your health by one unit when you find two of them. The maximum amount of health you can have is up to seven jewels, and you can pick up two more yellow flowers after that for an unofficial "eighth hit." If you do that, then collect three white flowers, you'll then have an unofficial "ninth hit" to go along with that.

If you grab onto the zipline by simply tapping A, you can launch yourself upwards off the zipline hook. Hold A to hold on to the hook. This will allow you to get a spinning tile with a jewel on it, which will increase your maximum health by one jewel.

The white door with the red jewel and "IN" on it is the store. There is also a store with a similar-looking spinning sign next to it. If you go in, you can buy items with the gold that you have.

The spinning tile with the Ronald McDonald face gives you a 1-Up.

The M icon is a continue, while a balloon will allow you to save yourself in case you fall down a pit. Just move to where you want to land, then press C to jump off the balloon.

In the second section, you'll climb up a tree, and the screen will transition from day to evening to night. The bats turn into ghosts when it becomes nighttime, and they will become easier to deal with then.

The leaves may get in your way, but it's still easy to get around in the treetops. You can hold Down and press C to drop down from a ledge you're standing on.

At Level 3, your attack becomes even more powerful.

In the third section, there are fish swimming around and flying centipedes. Destroying the flying centipede by attacking the head will allow you to get multiple white flowers to recover your health with.

There is a spinning cylinder with platforms throughout that appear and disappear as the cylinder turns. From here, you can get an extra life and also go upwards for more gold and flowers. There will be another shop all the way to the left in the treetops here.

In the fourth section, the water has a more powerful current and will push you back. Use the frogs to get across the water. There are also geysers that will take you to other areas.

Sometimes the store doors lead to a mini-game. In the mini-game, you can spend 2000 Gold to play a Tetris-like game. You have to get three of the same item set up horizontally, vertically or diagonally, and the first thing you get three of is what you're going to get. You can do this to get a life, a continue, more health, and even a balloon.

The giant geyser will take you high into the air. Pay attention for all the pick-ups, and watch out for the pink horned creastures with the spikes on the bottom of their clouds.

You'll then get thrown to the entrance of a cave that rises up from the ground, which is really some sort of creature. Grab the flower and the money, then go in.

Inside the cave, there are bats as well as fire-breathing dragons. The signs with the number counting down from five warn of waterfalls that drop down and do damage if they hit you. If you see a sign saying "Safety Zone," you will want to stand under it when the timer signs are at zero so you don't get hurt.

The water droplets that shoot up at an arc are much like the lava arcs from Konami games. Stay in the safety zones so that the droplets don't hit you.

The totem poles produce hornets as they move up and down. You can farm power-ups and gold from the hornets endlessly until you have what you need.

If you go down at the "Welcome!" sign, you'll meet the Hamburglar. Walk up to him to talk to him. If you give him two magical jewels, you'll get a hint: the enemy bosses will try to steal your jewels, and if they steal them and eat them, they cannot attack. This applies to every boss, so keep this in mind.

In the next section. go left and duck at the top of every slopes to keep from getting hit from the fish robots that slide downwards. These fish robots do four hits worth of damage.

The boss here is a tomato with big lips. Watch out for the red beam that comes from its mouth; this is how the boss will try to eat your jewels and leave himself vulnerable to your attacks. You can destroy his minions for power-ups if you need them, and you can use the platforms to get to the boss' level and zap him.

There is also a 1-Up at the top of the room, so don't forget to grab it.

Another enough damage, you'll beat the first boss, and you'll earn a piece of the treasure map. Ronald will wonder who has the rest of the map, then take a train to the next stage.
