dilandau3000 plays King's Quest VII: The Princeless Bride - Part 26 of 31

Things have now gotten serious as we search for Rosella...

There are six strings on the harp, and from left to right is the lowest note to the highest. If you press the first, the fifth, the sixth and the fourth, you will play the melody of the fairies. The harp will then play the rest of the melody, and the orb on the top of the harp will glow. Normally, if you touch the orb, nothing happens, but if you touch it now, Valanice gets sucked in.

Valanice will then be floating in the cosmos with three women are cutting a string near what looks like a purple electric spark in a space-age cage. They are the Fates: Clotho, who spins the fates of women and men; Lachesis, who measures the fates; and Atropos, who severs the fates. Clicking on them will cause Valanice to talk to them, and they in turn will introduce themselves. Clicking on them again will have Valanice tell them about her search for Rosella as well as search for an audience with Oberon and Titania, the king and queen of Etheria. Sadly, Valanice will not be able to see them immediately as the king and queen have gone on a journey seeking their own lost child. Valanice is then told to take her case to Lady Mab, the lady of dreams. Lady Mab lives beyond the waking world, and one has to dream in order to meet her in a island of dreams and nightmares. Valanice will then be waved away, and she will return to Etheria. If you meet with the Fates again, they basically spell it out for you that you have to go to sleep.

It should be noted that the Fates are from Greek mythology, and that Oberon and Titania are named after characters from William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream who were constantly at odds with each other.

In order to get to the land of dreams, we must first go to sleep. There is only one place to sleep at that we know of, assuming that we have been talking a lot to all the other characters: the coffin couch in Dr. Mort Cadaver's office in Ooga Booga. Go back to the rainbows and take the lower-left one. You'll land near the gate to Ooga Booga, and if you pass by the man-eating Venus flytraps, they will try to sweet-talk you again. If you click on them, they will say they are nihilistic when Valanice asks them if they are worried about the volcano erupting. Clicking on them two more times will see Valanice say she knows they want to eat her and that she hopes they have lava-proof leaves.

When you approach the kids' house, the two neighborhood kids will be banging on pots and pans while celebrating the eventual eruption of the volcano. They then climb back up to the house and make their noise from there.

Head back to Dr. Mort Cadaver's office. This time, the sign saying he is out is gone. Knock on the door, and click on Dr. Mort Cadaver. Valanice will tell him about her attempt to meet Lady Mab, and Dr. Cadaver will tell you that the coffin in his office is comfortable and safe enough to sleep in. Clicking on Dr. Cadaver two more times will have Valanice have her misgivings about the whole thing, but the good doctor promises not to close the lid on her...or bury her, either. We'll be heading to the dream world in the next video.
