frenzymatt (Mateus Lopes) beats Wild Guns on Hard - No Deaths - Part 1 of 6

Guns aren't a constant in the PrinceWatercress blog universe, but they might as well be. But, hey, you get another Hard Mode run, so I guess we can't complain!

Anyway, if you've played Cabal, you'll probably feel right at home with this one. If you haven't...you'll like it anyway. But do check that game out...Wild Guns is like Cabal, except with robots.

Carson City

Well, this is gonna be interesting.

Basically, you're trying to survive until the clock hits zero, while at the same time, shooting down everything you can, both enemies and environment. When the timer reaches zero, you'll face a mini-boss before moving to the next section. There are two sections and a boss in every stage, and being one of those "one-hit-and-you're-dead" games, getting from beginning to end is anything but easy!

You'll have a gun with infinite ammo and a few bombs that clear off everything on-screen for a few seconds, but you'll find other guns and more bombs along the way.

First Section

Here is where it all begins.

The big burly men have gold bags that show up when they die, which you can shoot at to collect. The top of the building to the left has a hidden bomb if you shoot it up. There are also men that come in from the sides, shoot at you, and then continue to the other side of the screen.

Whenever you see the small circles on the ground that flash, they're indicating bullets that are about to hit you. If you don't move away in time, you'll get hit and lose a life.

When an enemy appears in the foreground, they'll stop right in front of your character to hit you. If you press Y when they're right in front of you, your character will hit him with the butt of their gun, knocking them into the background.

You can also dodge bullets at the last second with a dive. To do that, press B while holding down Y. You can also hold Left or Right on the D-Pad prior to diving to move in your direction of choice. During the dive, you're invincible...but you can get hit as soon as you come out of it, so be careful when and where you dive.

If you press B to jump, and press B again in mid-air, you can double jump. It definitely comes in handy.

Pressing X sets off a bomb that causes a screen-clearing explosion that lasts for a few seconds. The purple jewels below your score indicate how many you have left, and you can carry up to five at any given time.

There is also a gauge between your score and your bombs that fills up as you progress. After you fire a certain number of consecutive, uninterrupted shots on an enemy in a row, it will slowly fill up. When it's completely full...well, you'll see.

The mechanical tanks that come out every so often are Gatling guns on wheels. They move into the screen, stop, and then up to shoot at you before moving back. If you can position your cursor correctly, you can shoot down all the bullets while you shoot down the tank.

There are four power-ups. There is the S-Gun, a shotgun blast with a slow rapid fire rate that does a good amount of damage. The M-Gun is a machine gun that fires faster than the regular gun, and it's pretty accurate despite its narrow blast radius. The G-Gun is a Grenade Launcher that does multiple hits' worth of damage and is really useful against bosses. The P-Gun is a useless toy gun that shoots rubber balls. It doesn't do any damage whatsoever, and the only way you can pick it up is if you collect a gun power-up with the "?" on it. If you get it, use all 50 shots immediately and stay out of the way of any incoming fire.

Every time you kill an enemy, you take a second away from the timer. This is what you want, as it makes it easier to survive the onslaught of enemies before the mini-boss of each section. Kill as many enemies as you can!

To pull out a lasso, press the Y button repeatedly. You won't be able to move as you spin it around, but you can use the Control Pad to guide the cursor and aim. When you're ready to throw it, quit pressing Y. When it hits an enemy, that enemy will flash light blue and will be immobilized for a brief time. Take this opportunity to take the enemy down or take care of other surrounding enemies or hazards.

The mini-boss here is a giant robot cowboy. Aim at its torso while avoiding its bullets as well as its napalm blast. It's better to be on the left side of this robot, so the napalm blast can miss you completely.

Second Section

You're now inside a bar. Apparently, there were neon bulbs, karaoke machines and ceiling fans in the Wild West.

Clear the tables out before you take out the enemies; they'll have gems you can take for points and it makes dealing with the enemies a lot easier. The guys behind the bar not only have gold bags and bombs, they also throw sticks of dynamite that you can hurl back at the enemies. If they're flashing after they've hit the ground, stay away; they're about to explode.

After a while, two red robots will show up. They can't move, but they will shoot at you when you get close. The dynamite works wonders against them, as well as (if you have it) the G-Gun.

The mini-boss here is some guy in a suit with a gun. He'll walk around before taking a few shots at you. Using the lasso on him definitely makes him easier to deal with, as he crawls around like a coward in an anime for a few seconds before he stands back up, allowing you to shoot at him again.

Third Section

Boss time! Here, you face a giant robot with a chaingun. Hit it in the face, and avoid the rockets it rains down on you as well as the chaingun itself. When it kneels down, that's your cue to start moving and diving around to avoid the rockets as they come down. Use your double jump and dive to avoid the attacks. You can also use the lasso on its face to freeze it temporarily.

At the end of every stage, you'll get a stage clear bonus as well as 500 points for every item you've picked up in the stage.
