In this episode, Loire changes...big time. We also get to explore more of Europe.
Loire
When you come back to town after exploring another region, you'll find out that Loire has changed...big time.
The first screen will be known as 1st Avenue. By talking around, you'll learn that the castle is now open to everyone after the death of the king, and that they're holding a speed-eating contest there. You won't be able to do it until later, though.
The house to the far left has two doors. The door to the left is Matis' house. Talk to him, and he will ask you a favor: he wants to know if his art will be accepted by people for outside of Loire. Say yes when he asks if you want to help, and he will hand you one of his paintings to show to someone.
The door to the right is Pierre's house. He is 18 years old and loves tinkering with machines. Say yes when he asks if you want to see his invention, and he'll tell you about it: a camera. When he tries it, however, you get electrocuted. Go back in and see the invention again. This time you'll be set on fire. Leave, come back and see the invention a third time. This time, nothing happens to Ark and his image is finally on paper. He then gives you a Camera for your efforts. If you want, you can equip the Camera and use it to take a picture of the town anywhere. Ark will take scenery photos. The scenery photos will come into play for another side quest later on. Be sure to do this with all the towns you go to.
The building next to Matis' and Pierre's homes is the General Store and Magishop.
The flower girl is standing next to the entrance to the inn on the right side of 1st Avenue. You can still buy flowers from her if you need to. To the right of the inn is the fortune teller.
If you go into the inn, you'll find out it's been renovated and that there are four rooms instead of two. If you enter the room on the left where the woman behind the counter is, the man will make a reference to the flower girl by asking you "Why a little girl and a penguin?" when you talk to him.
The other two rooms are down the stairs to the north. One of them is occupied by a sailor who, if you talk to him, tells you about a rich guy on the island to the north.
Keinz is near the entrance to the second screen, which is called 2nd Avenue. The guy with blue hair near the entrance will tell you that the rich guy on the island to the north has a keen interest in the arts. Remember that for later.
The house on the lower right corner of 2nd Avenue is Jean's house. In the first room is Louis, who is now helping Jean out and is no longer the town drunk. Behind the door is Jean, who asks what you think of the new Loire before saying that there is still a lot of progress to go. The stairs lead to the bedroom, where you can't really do anything.
The house to the left of Jean's house is the woman with the grandma. She knows now that the town is free. Also, the daughter has her own room.
On the lower left corner are three more houses. The one on the right with the mailbox is an empty house. You won't be able to do anything here. The middle house contains a guy who wants to be a real estate agent due to all the people moving into the town. The house on the left also has a mailbox, and inside lives a woman who wants to start a furniture shop.
The girl outside these three houses talks about Marilly, who has to make dresses for Mme. Papilo, who is still as self-centered and haughty as ever. Also, the first set of dialogue is incomplete at the beginning.
The upper-left corner is the Tourism center. Remember when you talked to Pierre and worked on getting the Camera. Well, if you've done that, used the Camera on all the towns you can go to, you'll be able to take the photos you took and send them to the woman behind the counter. By doing so, you can allow for people to explore other areas, exchange ideas and even grow other towns. You'll be coming back here eventually.
The croissant guy is in the upper-right corner. Still 10 Gems! Also in the upper-right corner is Mme. Papilo's business, and Mme. Papilo swears that she will never work for the masses. Behind the door, you can talk to Marilly, the girl with blonde hair. Listen to hear, and she'll give you some clothes. She'll ask you to sell it at another town to test their appeal elsewhere. Say yes and you'll get the Fancy Clothes. She'll even let you keep the money if it sells, as someone else's appreciation for her work matters more to her than money. If you talk to the seamstresses, you'll find out Mme. Papilo is still a jerk, that they all know the shop will fold, and that they're really ticked off.
To the right of Mme. Papilo's is the Winery. The winemaker is trying to make a drink with a smooth, refreshing taste and a relaxing, mellow feel. Talk to him, and he'll ask you to take a taste test. Say yes, and Ark will try it only to puke. Leave the winery, then come back. Try the taste test again, and even though it's different, it still won't taste right to Ark. Leave and go back, and do the taste test a third time. This time around, it tastes great. For doing this, you'll get Wine. The winemaker will ask you to show off the wine in other regions.
If you go behind the door in the winery, you can try the drink at the desk. It's tasty, but nothing will happen.
There's nothing else here in Loire, so now it's time to head northeast. As you head in that direction, you can find a secret area in a lone patch of trees near the bridge leading north. This is a poultry farm. The man in the shack will tell you that he is now raising chickens with a government subsidy.
Head back to Loire and head to the Tollgate. If you went here after the king died, you'll learn from the guy that would be here at that point that since the king has died, there is no nead for a tollgate to the southeast. If you enter the tollgate building now, it'll be empty. You might as well go on through.
To the south of the tollgate is what is supposed to be Spain. At the southern coast is Quatro's.
The Quatros are a traveling Roma family, as evidence by the fact that they say they pitch their tent where the wind blows, assuming you talk to them. In the upper-right tent, if you talk to the woman inside, she'll ask for a massage. Get behind her and keep walking into her, and she'll eventually give you 1 Gem. If you do it again, you'll get 5 Gems. By doing this, the Quatros will move, and you'll get the nearby town of Litz to expand.
Near the tent to the south are two men on a makeshift table made of crates. If you talk to the guy on the left, he'll ask if you want to play a game. If you say yes, they have second thoughts of playing the game with you. Hmmm...
If you talk to the woman in the upper-left corner, she'll tell you that there was a man who came here recently who was very conceited, and that he said he was avenging a friend.
Since you did the back rub for that woman twice, when you leave, the Quatros tent will be gone. You won't be able to see them again from this point.
To the north is the town of Litz itself.
The building right at the entrance is a hospital. Dr. Emilio, the town doctor, wishes there was better medicine so that he could save more lives. If you enter the rooms to the north, you'll see a child who has gotten a fever, as well as Dr. Emilio himself, who is studying medicine for infectious diseases and also does socialized medicine. You'll also learn from one of the people that Dr. Emilio is worried about a friend of his named Columbus, who has gone missing.
If you talk to Dr. Emilio a couple of times you'll learn he's trying to find a cure for the fever, and that Columbus got a fever-curing herb on a journey. Only thing is, Columbus has yet to return. He recently discovered a new continent, then reported it to the Queen of Spain and hasn't been seen since.
Talking around in town will bring up info about the nearby Sylvain Castle, where the Queen of Spain ruled. But when her three sons died on a ship, she went insane. You'll also learn that an evil spirit descended on the nearby castle of Sylvain and doomed the nearby country of Spain. You'll also learn that sardines are the town's specialty.
To the left of the hospital is the Crafts building. The man in the building has been asked to make something for the church, but he can't get his hands on a rare mineral.
To the left of that building is Keinz. He'll tell you there is no local industry here, and at least one key industry is needed, or else there will be no growth. The town can only be expanded once, but it won't be until near the end of the game.
To the left of Keinz is a house where a man is trying to keep sardines from rotting quickly in transit and wants to preserve them for a long time.
To the left of the sardines guy is the church. The guy walking around near the church tells you about the Quatros. If you go into the Church, you'll find out that the Church wasn't even censored, and that Jesus on the cross is there. If the game ever came out in America, this whole area would be guaranteed censored.
The chest in the upper-left corner of town contains a Luck Potion. Next to the Luck Potion chest is another sailor who will tell you about a portrait in Sylvain Castle in Spain which supposedly has precious jewels in the place of eyes. This portrait attracted many thieves, none of whom have returned.
The upper-right corner of town is the Merchant's shop and the Inn. At the Merchant's, you can buy L.Bulbs. This can be very useful. At the Inn, you'll meet Roy again. He asks if you've seen Princess Elle around, and that she disappeared after King Henri was killed. Another guy in the building tells you about Columbus, and the guy next to Roy tells you about about a ghastly killing light coming from the nearby castle.
You can actually consume the foods on the south side of the table. If you want to use the room here, just talk to the guy in front of the door, pay the 10 Gems, and then use the save book and rest if you wish.
To the south is the port.
There are ships here, but there's one problem: nobody has the navigation skills to get to another continent. A Spanish ship has set sail, but it hasn't come back yet. You won't be able to do anything...yet.
To the east, surrounded by mountains, is Sylvain Castle.
