PrinceWatercress plays Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES) - Part 6 of 11

World 5 takes us into the clouds with the help of a tall tower. It's like two maps in one!

World 5

World 5-1

The first enemy you see if a new enemy that will throw blue blocks at you if they get their hands on you. Also,  the white plants - known as Nipper Plants - with the faces are enemies as well. Some stand in place, but others slowly move around and can hop up to nip up at what's above it.

If you can somehow get to the bottom, you can get a bunch of coins in the shape of the number three, and if you go down the pipe while Small Mario, you have a chance to get a Music Box.

World 5-2

There are two ways through this level.

If you can stay afloat as Raccoon Mario or Tanooki Mario, you can stay on the upper parth and get a bunch of power-ups and 1-Ups. (I should have gotten those 1-Ups!)

If you don't, you'll have to take the enemy-ridden lower path. Be ready to avoid the enemies here that will throw the blue throwable blocks, which can be picked up and kicked like Koopa Shells. Once you pick them up, though, they will disappear after a short time.

The Toad House after this stage will always give you a Tanooki Suit.

World 5 Fortress 1

If you can break the blocks shortly after the start, you can make your way to a pipe that will take you to three extra lives...if you can fly to the top of the secret room that you find, of course.

To get past the final Thwomp, you'll have to carefully - and quickly - make your way to the right while jumping past the two lava pits around where the Thwomp is.

World 5-3

In this level, you'll be introduced to Kuribo's Shoe. Get the Goomba in the shoe to jump on a brick, then hit the brick from underneath to knock the Goomba out of the shoe. You can then then jump into the shoe and ride around in it with Left and Right. Press A to jump. If you get hit in the shoe, you'll lose the shoe. You can use the shoe to walk on the black Nipper Plants without taking damage.

World 5 Tower

Despite the enemies and the obstacles, the climb up the tower isn't that bad. If you can break some bricks, you can find some coins, and if you know how to get over the brick wall, you can get three extra lives.

By going up the pipe at the end, you'll enter the sky world and get even more of the world map.

World 5 Pipe

If you ever need to go back down to the land for whatever reason, here's the map for it. The left-most brick contains a hidden 1-Up. Just remember that you will have to go through the tower stage again to get back to the clouds.

World 5-4

The spinning platforms are back, and this time, some of them will spin endlessly. Others will act like see-saws if you stand on one end long enough. If you can fly up to the top, you can skip some of the level.

There is a Lakitu at the goal.

World 5-5

If you can get all 28 coins here, you can get the White Mushroom House to show up. I forget a few and end up missing out on getting the White Mushroom House a second time. Dang it.

You'll also meet a new enemy: the Fire Chomp. The Fire Chomp will fly around in the air and home in on your position, and it will spit fireballs every once in a while.
