PrinceWatercress plays X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse - Part 2 of 8

We take on Beast and Wolverine's stages as we divide and conquer across the island of Genosha to free some mutants!

All playable character info and special moves courtesy of World of Nintendo.

Beast Stage

NAME: BEAST
REAL NAME: Henry "Hank" P. McCoy
HEIGHT: 5' 11''
WEIGHT: 355 lbs.
MUTANT POWERS: Possesses the abilities of enhanced strength, speed, agility, dexterity, and acrobatic prowess.

ATTACKS:

PUNCH - Y
BEAST CHARGE - Forward, Forward, Y
SOMERSAULT KICK - Up+Y
CROUCHING PUNCH - Down+Y
CEILING WALK - Jump to ceiling, Up
BEAST BOUNCE - (Landing on Enemy's head) Down+Y

The Beast Bounce works just like Psylocke's neck cracker, and all you have to do to walk on ceilings is hold Up on the Control Pad while in mid-air. From there, you can move left and right like normal, but you won't be able to do your standing combo. Instead, you just have the one punch. At least you can still attack.

You can go either below ground or above ground, but either path takes you to the same place: sewer pipes with currents strong enough to push you to the left.

The dash attack is very strong and can take out the normal Genoshan Magistrates with one hit. Also worth doing is hitting them in the head with the Beast Bounce and then sticking to the ceiling with Up on the rebound, performing your best IRL Yao Ming Face impression all the while.

The boss is a purple robot that can fly from one end of the screen to the other. Walk on the bottom of the pipes, and punch it as it walks to the side of the screen, and stay out of the water so the mines that come out of the waterfall don't hit you. When it's fully on-screen, keep hitting it with Beast Bounces and avoid the electric shock balls that it fires into the air (they fire in three directions: forwards, at a 45-degree angle and straight up). When it flashes yellow, it's about to hover to the other side and will attempt to take you out of the process, so use the Beast Bounce when that happens.

When you beat the mini-boss, climb up to the top to find an X Plate.

Continue on and you'll take a sharp drop before landing in more sewer water. You can hang upside down on the levers that activate the sewage chutes. Doing this with the first one uncovers an easy-to-miss X Plate, the second in the stage. You can also leap off of it to some moving platform that you can also walk on the bottom of, which leads to the third and final X Plate.

Along the way you're supposed to go (and the optional area with the moving platforms), you'll see the flying droids that explode when you destroy them. You'll also see the big muscle-bound Magistrate at the bottom too, but he's really easy to defeat with Beast if you just use the Dash attack.

The boss is a trio of Sentinels that are only slightly bigger than Beast and go down in a few hits. Just keep doing the Beast Bounce on them and avoid both the wrist whip as well as the lasers that come out of their torsos. They may fly into the air and slowly come back down somewhere else, but it's only a slight nuisance. After six Beast Bounces, you'll kill one of them, so you can keep doing this for an easy victory.

You can also get right in close and keep performing crouching punches. If you're close enough, the whips won't hit you, but the eye lasers can still get you.

Wolverine Stage

NAME: WOLVERINE
REAL NAME: Logan
HEIGHT: 5' 3''
WEIGHT: 195 lbs.
MUTANT POWERS: Possesses the powers of superhuman senses, agility, and adamantium claws. (Not Featured in Game: Regenerative Powers)

ATTACKS:

SLASH - Y
UPPERCUT - Up+Y
RUNNING CLAW - Forward, Forward, Y
JUMPING SLASH - (In Air) Y
BERSERKER - Down, Down-Forward, Forward, Y
FLYING BERSERKER - (In Air) Down+Y
WALL CLIMB - Jump towards wall, Can slash upwards with Y

Wolverine breaks through one of the windows and enters a restricted area of the Sentinel factory...and a whole bunch of Genoshan Magistrates show up as a result.

Despite having them in the series (and in other games, like Wolverine: Adamantium Rage, you won't be able to heal yourself with Wolverine's Omega Healing in this game.

The mini-boss is a brown robot. When it flashes yellow, get away from it to avoid its stomp attack. It also shoots at what's in front of it with a missile launcher, but if you criss-cross it with dash attacks, you'll be good.

The first X Plate is in mid-air. You'll have to climb up to the platform with the grenadier in order to reach it. To do that, just jump toward the platform wall and Wolverine will immediately grapple on. For the second one, climb on what looks like the spinal column for a Sentinel and go to the top so the pieces fall off. Fall off of it when you're at the top, move to the right, then do a Flying Berserker to the left so you can latch onto the left wall and not die. If you climb downward, you'll find the third and last X Plate.

The boss is a giant sentinel that shoots eye beams at you. Criss-cross the head with Hyper Berserkers so you can take out both the head and the Genoshan Magistrates that come out of the sides. This one's over.
