PrinceWatercress plays Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble - Part 5 of 16

We headed to one of the secret caves last time, but this time, we tackle Cotton Top Cove proper.

Bazza's Blockade

Bonus areas: Two (2)

Here it is: your first fully underwater area.

You'll meet a new enemy here: Bazza. Bazza just swims straight ahead from one tube of coral to the other without any care in the world as to what he runs into from Point A to Point B. At first, you'll see just one go from Point A to Point B before another one shows up, but as you go through the stage, you'll see two or three come out of a tube of coral in a straight line. Some move slowly; others move quickly. You'l also see sets of coral tubes set up back-to-back, creating a thicker wall of Bazzas. Be ready to time your movements carefully in this very linear maze that has only a few alcoves. Just like with the Minkys in Barrel Shield Bust-Up, make your move as soon as you see the second Bazza in a set disappear.

The first bonus area is just after the start. Just above the line of bananas curving downwards from left to right, there is a bunch of Bazzas that don't seem to be guarding anything at the bottom of the screen. If you head towards the bottom, you'll find the first bonus area. Here, just swim to the right and avoid the Bazza and Lurchins on the way to the other side to get the Bonus Coin. Just stay all the way at the bottom after the first Lurchin, then make your move.

More than halfway through the stage, there is a dead end with a Bear Coin it. From there, you will have a choice between going left and going right. If you go left and watch out for the Bazzas, you'll find the second bonus area. As Enguarde, beat up all the Kocos to get the Bonus Coin. Aim carefully, the Kocos will damage you and send you back to the main stage if you're a bit off.

If you don't go to the second bonus area, you'll find the Enguarde Barrel near the N.

Near the end, you'll meet Bounty Bass, a big red-and-white fish that is the aquatic equivalent of the Booty Bird. Hit him with Enguarde to find something. Here, you'll find a Bear Coin.

When you reach the cave at the other end, you've reached the end of the level. Here, you'll find Koin and the steel keg. Just jump on top of him so you stand on his shield, then throw the steel keg to the wall on your right to get the DK Coin.

Rocket Barrel Ride

Bonus areas: Two (2)

You'll be seeing a pair of waterfalls as you make your way to the top of the stage. Get used to seeing them; that's all the background is for this area.

The big blue Kremling at the beginning is Krumple. Only a bop on the head from Kiddy Kong or throwing a barrel at him will defeat him.

The barrels with the arrow pointing upwards are the Rocket Barrels. These Barrel Cannons will take you higher into the level before shooting you out. Be ready to hold Left or Right on the Control Pad to get to where you want to go.

Check the sides of areas to find hidden items, and be sure to check the waterfalls for some Rocket Barrels (which may be hidden) leading to hidden stuff. Also, be careful on cliff edges, since it is possible to slide off the edge when you land and fall down to an earlier point.

Of course, since you're in the air, you will have to deal with Buzzes.

Plain Barrel Cannons can be used by pressing B to shoot Dixie and Kiddy out once you're properly aimed, while the Barrol Cannon with the explosion on it will automatically aim and shoot you.

At one point, you will see Nik-Naks to the left of a Buzz after taking a Rocket Barrel upwards. Move left over the Buzz and jump on all the Nik-Naks to reach the first bonus area. Both bonus areas here are of the star-collecting type, Pay attention near the background, since it can make it hard to see some of the stars. The rest will be collected as you use the Rocket Barrels. Once you're done here, you'll land on the Continue Point.

You'll have to use Parry the Passenger Bird to get the . If you can get him to the "No Parry" sign, you can get a 3-Up. You can also find a 1-Up to the right behind the two Krumbles near the sign.

After the "No Parry" sign, leap over the Rocket Barrel in the waterfall and continue to the right. You'll find the second bonus area. Here, you'll have to keep track of where the Rocket Barrels are in order to collect all the stars and get the Bonus Coin.

Koin is at the end. Throw the steel keg to the left while holding Up on the Control Pad, then jump into the Barrel Cannon and have it launch you to the left, where you will land behind Koin. If you can get it right, the steel keg will catch up and hit Koin in the back when you make it there so you can get the DK Coin.

As for that glitch I did at the end, if you leap back down to where the final Rocket Barrel is and keep the Buzzes on screen while landing on the nearby cliff edge, they will share the same palette as the Rocket Barrels' afterburners. This glitch is really easy to perform, and if you can keep both Buzzes on screen, they will both be crazily discolored.

Kreeping Klasps

Bonus areas: Two (2)

Oh, hey, it's another docks level. You'll meet a new enemy: Klasp. He will hide in a TNT barrel, be explosive - and damaging - to the touch, and just make your life miserable by tracking your movement sometimes. Some of them move back and forth on the ropes, but some will track you if you're on their level. These guys can be a pain in later levels. Not only that, but Nibbla is in the water, so if you think you can just use the water as a shortcut, think again.

At the beginning, tag throw Dixie to the roof to get a 1-Up. Tag throw Kiddy into the crack in the floor to get a Bear Coin.

Shortly after the start, you will see two green Buzzes flying in circles. Get up to where they are to find the first bonus area. Here, you will have to move between the two ropes to collect fifteen green bananas. If you take your time, you won't be sharing the lake with Nibbla.

There will be an area after the Star Barrel where there are two levels of ropes with a post in the middle of the lower level. (Klasps always stop and turn around near posts.) Drop down near there to get to the Barrel Cannon, which will you shoot you to the second Bonus Barrel. Here, jump over and all the Klasps while trying not to fall into the water below, and you'll get the second Bonus Coin.

The steel keg is at the hut at the end. Grab the steel keg, then head back to Koin and get to the left of him. Throw the steel keg over his head and into the right-hand wall, and the DK Coin is yours.
