NintendoCapriSun plays Mega Man 7 - Part 1 of 17

And now, the near-immediate aftermath of the sixth game!

After the events of Mega Man 6, Dr. Wily is arrested and jailed. However, six months have passed since then, and four robots that have been programmed to look for Wily after six months without any contact has come out of the capsules in Wily's lab. Apparently, Wily had a back-up plan all along.

This leads to the start of the game. After an intro segment also involving Roll and Auto, Mega Man finally heads into battle. He then meets Rush and Dr. Wily, and the three of them watch as the robots break into the prison and free Dr. Wily.

The short intro segment has you shooting down a couple of robots that are really easy to destroy. You'll soon meet the steamroller robot from the before-game intro. Jump over his sawblade mohawk when it shoots out at you and hit the steamroller robot in the face with a combination of regular and charged shots.

You'll then meet a Mega Man-esque robot that jumps in place and shoots at the same time. After doing enough damage to him while avoiding his firepower, he'll tell you his name is Bass. You'll also meet his robot wolf, Treble (Forte and Gospel in the Japanese version). They've been tracking Dr. Wily, but have come to realize you don't need their help. After this, the intro stage is over.

After getting a password (which is numerical like the X series but also has pictures), you'll see the stage select screen. This would be the first game to have four stages to choose from at the outset as opposed to eight (even though you could get all eight at once with a password). You have Freeze Man, Cloud Man, Junk Man and Bubble Man at the start.

Freeze Man

Being an ice-themed Robot Master, this will be an ice stage.

The life pickups are blue with a yellow center, while the weapons energy pickups are clear with a red center. Sometimes you'll pick up what looks like a detached headlight, and like the health and weapon pick-ups, some are big and some are small. These are Bolts, and you'll need those to buy stuff such as Energy and Weapon Tanks at Otto's Store, which you can access by pressing Select at the Robot Master select screen. Small bolts are worth one, while big bolts are worth five.

The first enemy you'll notice is the circular robot with the legs that go over the head. He's just like his counterpart from the third game. Just shoot the "head."

The polar bear robot takes a lot of abuse before going down. Use charged shots and jump over the ice crystals they create and push at you.

The shield robots are, as always, only vulnerable from behind.

The ceiling robots shoot icicles down on the floor. If you destroy them before they can do that, the icicle will come down automatically. You can use these icicles as small platforms that can get you over the spikes.

The Shield Joes are a lot bigger compared to past games, but they take a lot less damage compared to previous games when they're not defending themselves.

The indestructible low-lying robots are little red cylinders with whirling blades at the top, and they'll still rush at you if you're on their level like n previous games.

The ceiling turrets will shoot in multiple directions.

Near the end, you can get Rush Search if you stay on the top route and can leap from one platform to another. This lets you find items in the ground that you can sell at Auto's shop later on.

The polar bear robot near the end not only guards an Energy Tank that you can use to refill your energy with, but also attacks with icicles until you kill it.

The last enemy you'll meet before Freeze Man is a pair of sleds that shoot out explosive balls as it rockets toward you. If you have your Mega Buster charged up before meeting up with one, you'll be good to go.
