PrinceWatercress plays Toonstruck - Part 4 of 19

Our adventure continues inside of an arcade. We'll have to play one of the game in order to get an item for later on.

The yellow building with the explosion with the exclamation points for a sign is the arcade. There is a high striker known as a strengthometer, but we won't be able to play it just yet. There is a Wac-Man arcade machine, but we won't be playing it just yet. Instead, we'll be starting by talking to the arcade owner, a dark blue octopus with a crummy attitude.

By breaking the ice with him, you'll find out that he used to be from Zanydu and that it was easier to make money with an arcade in Cutopia. You'll also find out that the Wac-Man is from Zanydu, not Cutopia, and because of that, nobody ever plays it. The arcade operator also has a standing challenge: anybody who beats him at Wac-Man will win one of the arcade's top prizes: a gold chain. From here, we play the game

To play Wac-Man, you have an up button, a down button and a fire button. There are two ways to win: throw enough throwing stars at your opponent to kill them, or throw enough throwing stars at the target behind them to lower a spiked mace ball down and squash them. Unfortunately, you can only control the game using the mouse, and you have to keep your mouse cursor on that corner just to be able to play the game. The fire button throws shurikens, while the up and down buttons allow you to stand up and duck, allowing you to block high, in the middle and low. While you can protect yourself from lower shots, that leaves the target behind you open, allowing the opponent to hit it and lower that mace ball.

I end up just pressing the fire button over and over again just to hit the target and get the easy win, as the arcade operator will eventually go for low shots anyway, and I get the win via the dropping mace ball. When you beat the arcade operator at the game, he will stay true to his word and give you the chain. If you look at it, you'll find it's a bit on the cheap side. You can still play the arcade operator in a game of Wac-Man again, if you wish.

You can ask to play the strengthometer, but the lucky mallet that the arcade operator is made of rubber and is not at all lucky, and you're not going to be able to win with it. You can ask about King Hugh, but you won't get any info out of that.
