We go through a rather wild goose chase to get one last egg in Spooky Swamp before taking on a brand new area!
Watch this video afterwards...it's part two! Now with haikus!
Bamboo Terrace
The fodder here are flies. At least, I think they're flies. Maybe they're some other type of bug with small wings. I dunno.
Well, the Rhynocs are making it hard for all the pandas here to harvest the bamboo needed to power the whirligig to Evening Lake, and they won't leave, so you'll have to take them out to both complete this area and open up more of it as you go along.
The cracked wall in the lake leads to four hidden extra lives. Nice.
The enemies here aren't anything you haven't seen before. They've just got different textures, that's all.
When you make it to the end, Sing Sing opens up the emergency drawbridges before heading back to Midday Gardens. This is good, because aside from more pick-ups, this allows you to chase down another thief to get a Dragon Egg. This is probably the hardest one to date, and the quickest way to do it is to keep up with him, make short hops up the stairs and cut corners only where absolutely necessary. The best place to tag the thief with a flame is ironically close to where you first meet him (that part before he turns sharply to the right to hit the emergency bridges).
Here's something interesting: there's a character section for a character we haven't gotten yet and won't be able to access until we reach Evening Lake...I guess. Some sort of Yeti character. This sounds promising...
If you go left from the Yeti door, you'll find the ? Vase. Yep, it's finally made a return appearance from the second game, and it works the same way. Flame one, find the next one, flame one, keep going until you reach the last one. You'll basically be working your way back to the start as you do this, and when you make it back to the start of the level, flame the last one to get some gems.
Challenge Portals
Spooky Swamp
The first guy takes the same path both times.
The second guy will take you to the last egg. His path won't really follow the path per se and he's noticeably faster, so be ready to memorize stuff.
There's a breakable wall near where the three egg cages are. It's the one made out of stone bricks, and if you kick it, you'll find some hidden gems. There are also two cracked walls where the headbashable (read: stompable) chests are. Use your high double jump that results from touching the ground and jumping again immediately to reach them. Finally, there's another one near the entrance/exit to the Sheila area. You'll find gems in all of these places, and it's pretty clear that at this point, Insomniac is getting a little more clever with where they're placing some of their pick-ups in this game compared to the last two.
Bamboo Terrace
For this one, you'll have to get the Supercharge, get on the boat and then torch all the Rhynocs as the panda workers climb up to their houses. Be careful not to either let one of the Rhynocs live or to accidentally hit one of the pandas, or you'll be starting over.
The last few Rhynocs come in pairs. If you can't get both of them while they're coming down, wait for one of them to come close to the pandas, at least. That way, if you only get one before they both come down, you'll still have a chance as you can nail the other while he's rearing back with that tiny parasol of his.
