PrinceWatercress plays Saturn Bomberman - Part 1 of 12

I'm playing a Saturn game!

In this game, Mr. Meanie and Dr. Mechado are trying to conquer the world with a series of crystals as well as Crator, a legendary monster. White and Black Bomberman are contacted by Dr. I, who tells them what is going on before telling them to head to Meanieland Amusement Park - the enemy's secret base - to get the crystals back.

Amusement World

Stage 1-1

By moving around and setting bombs, we can destroy soft blocks (which are the ice cream cones, in this case) and enemies (the pandamobiles and the clowns) to get power-ups. The explosions travel in the cardinal directions (north, south, east and west), and you'll want to take care not to be in path of your bombs

The pandamobiles go where they want, but the clowns are a little smarter and will tend to move away from your bombs.

The bomb icon gives you an extra bomb, and the flame extends the length of your bombs by one space in all cardinal directions (north, south, east and west). Unlike other Bomberman games, blowing up power-up icons does not spawn enemies afterwards.

The flashing beacons need to be blown up in order to open the exit to the next stage.

The HUD at the top of the screen shows how many beacons you have left to destroy, the amount of lives you have left, an egg (which will be explained later) and your current score. You'll have the time, and if you're playing a two-player game, the second player's stats will be on the right-hand side.

Stage 1-2

When you enter a new stage, you can go back to previous stages if you want to get more power-ups, points and lives.

The mice that carry the balloons move slowly and tend to move towards you.

The skates let you move faster. It is possible to move too fast if you collect too many pairs of skates, so be careful. Fruit just give you points, but with an extra life obtained every 10,000 points, they can prove useful.

If you find an egg, you can walk up to it and get a dinosaur that supplies an extra hit and has its own ability. The color of the dinosaur dictates which ability you'll have. Pink lets you jump, yellow has a roar, green has a super dash that lets you move very fast, purple has the ability to locate hidden items in soft (destructible) blocks, and blue lets you kick bombs if you don't have the kick ability as Bomberman.

If you blow up an egg, it will turn into a fried egg. Useless, but humorous.

As you go through stages with the dinosaurs (also known as Tirras), the egg meter will fill up. As it fills up, you'll go from the child stage to the adolescent stage to the adult stage. As the dinosaur grows, its ability will get better and better until its becomes a fully-grown adult.

Stage 1-3

The heart allows you to take an extra hit in case you aren't riding a dinosaur. You can not stack hearts up for multiple hits; you can only have one.

Stage 1-4

The barrels here are the soft blocs, the chimney-looking things are indestructible.

The green pop caps seemingly attack when they die, but they actually drop a power-up. The blue slimes will try to negate your bombs by smothering itself on them, but if you surround it with bombs, it will go down. As for Mr. Meanie's minions, all they do it move around.

The power glove allows you to pick up and throw bombs.
