Kikoskia plays Gobliiins - Part 1 of 6

Here's the intro...

...and here's the game!

The story begins with the goblin king having a feast and having merriment when suddenly, an unknown force attacks the king with a voodoo doll. First the king is in pain, then in unknown fear, then in hysterics. Everyone thinks that the king has gone insane. Now a cure is needed for the king, and only three goblins answer the call...

Welcome to the first game in the Gobliiins series, a point-and-click adventure series that was released on the PC, Amiga and Atari ST with a charming sense of humor, atmospheric music, beautiful graphics and plenty of puzzle-solving action that made the series very popular in Europe.

Unlike the other two games, which perfected the formula and are a blast to play, the first game has some elements that make it harder than the other two: a shared health bar between the three goblins that can never be re-filled and a password system instead of the ability to save your game at any time, which makes it harder to experiment with you can and can't do. With that being said, instant death is also a thing, and if any of the goblins die, you'll be starting the current screen over. Also, unlike the other two games, if you hover the mouse pointer over something, the game does not tell you if you can interact with it.

You control three goblins: Dwayne (Oups in the European version), a technician who can pick up an item and use it (albeit only one item at a time), Bobo (Asgard in the European version), a goblin who can punch things and climb things that aren't stairs or ladders; and Hooter (Ignatius), who can cast magic on items to either change them into something similar or alter its properties. You can switch between goblins by clicking on the one you want or by clicking on the crystal ball in the bottom center of the screen with the left mouse button, and you can switch between the walk command and the special command that each goblin has with the right mouse button.

The first screen takes place in front of the wizard's house, as the nearby wizard is the only one who can help them.

Switch to Bobo, then switch to his punch ability and click on the front door. You won't be welcomed in, so you'll have to find another way to get inside. The other door and the window are also not ways to get in, either, as you'll be yelled it. The fences won't do it, for if you click on them, the fences will attack and you'll lose health. (Yes, this is a thing.) Instead, have Bobo punch the archway in front of the house, so the horn on the statue head - which is wobbling - will fall off. Have Dwayne pick up the horn by selecting him and switching to the pick up/use command. When you grab an item, the name of the item will be in the bar on the lower-left corner of the screen. Use the pick up/use command on Dwayne to blow the horn and cause a stick to fall from the nearby tree. Switch to Hooter and have him cast magic on it to turn it into a pickaxe, then have Dwayne drop the horn by switching to the drop command and clicking on the ground. From there, have Dwayne pick up the pickaxe. You'll clear the first level and get a password. Just click on the square that pops up saying "Go" and you're off.

For the next level, there is a shining object in the wall on the other side, and the only thing between you and the object is a gap in the bridge.

From here, you'll want to cast magic on the apples with Hooter, then punch him with Bobo before picking them up and throwing them in the gap with Dwayne. You will have to figure out which ones will help and which ones will hurt. The ones you want to take are "Big Apple3" and "Big Apple1." The other two will hurt when used.

If you punch the far left apple with Bobo without making it grow with Hooter, you will die.

After putting two big apples into the pit, you can walk across to the other side. Have Dwayne use the pickaxe where the shining object is to find a diamond. Drop the pickaxe, pick up the diamond, and it's back to the wizard's house after you get a password.

Have Dwayne walk up to the wizard's house with the diamond and you'll be able to enter. At the wizard's house, you'll be able to hand it to him, but you can't just walk up to him. Instead, you'll have to do some things to get to his desk.

Have Hooter cast magic on the plant to the left, then have Bobo climb up the plant. Have Dwayne drop the diamond and have him climb up the ladder to the far left. There are two yellow pots; pick up the one on the left (Pot1). Have Dwayne use the pot on the plant to the right to feed it a fly, so the plant will not attack when you move Bobo to the right across the wizard's desk to punch the book. Pick up the diamond with Dwayne again, then have Dwayne climb up the book to give the diamond to the wizard in exchange for his services. A grate in the floor will open up, and we now have to find three things to cure the king: Airain's Mushroom, Arachnide's Elixir and the Bald Plant in order to cure the king.
