PrinceWatercress plays Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest - Part 3 of 18

It's time to head to Crocodile Cauldron, where the difficulty heats up along with the temperature!

All maps by Tropicon.

Crocodile Cauldron

The difficulty ramps up a little bit as you avoid getting singed by lava and deal with a score of even more new enemies.

Hot-Head Hop

Bonus Areas: Three (3)

At the very beginning, if you tag throw up and to the left, there is a pitch black chest you can grab if you go all the way to the left and hold Y on the way there. Inside is a 2-Up. Also, if you tag throw up where that chest is, you'll find the warp barrel.

Love how enemies fall into the lava and smoke appears. Speaking of enemies, you'll meet Klampon, which is the blue and orange lizard with the big mouth, large head and sharp teeth that are the second game's equivalent of the Klap-Traps. Jump on them; do not cartwheel or spin into them unless you want to get bitten and lose a Kong or a life.

You'll meet the Krockheads right at the beginning of the stage. The green ones are your garden variety platforms while the brown ones will launch you into the air.

The first bonus area is the cannon right before the continue point. The cannonball is in the crate below the letter O, and if you can carry it all the way to the cannon, you'll enter an area where you will have to jump on the Krockheads to get all the Kremkoin.

Shorly after the first bonus area and the continue point, you'll find a crate with the picture of a spider on it. This is Squitter, who makes his debut in this game and makes a return in the third one. Press Y to shoot web projectiles at enemies. You can only have three projectile webs on the screen at any given time. Press A to shoot out a slow-moving web, and press A again while it is on the screen to turn it into a web platform. Be careful with web platforms; they will only stay on the screen for a short time and you can only have two on the screen at any given time. Make web platforms to go all the way up right where you found Squitter to get the DK Coin. Don't forget, you can also angle your shots with both the projectile webs and the platforms with Up and Down on the Control Pad.

The second bonus area is shortly after the letter N. Use web platforms to reach it. The pairs of bananas will serve as a clue as to where to go. Climb up with the web plaforms to get the Kremkoin here.

The third bonus area is right before the "No Squitter" sign. Once again, you will need to make web platforms to make your way up to it. Just make your way to the right with the web platforms to get the Kremkoin here.

Klubba's Kiosk

From Crocodile Kauldron onwards, there is an area known as Klubba's Kiosk. This is a toll bridge that leads to a golden Barrel Cannon. To pay the toll, however, you have to have 15 Kremkoins.

Don't even bother fighting him with the "Fight Him!" option, he'll just knock you back to the world map.

Kannon's Klaim

Bonus Areas: Three (3)

Here, you'll be playing around with Barrel Cannons to get from one point of the level to another. If they don't have a symbol on them, press B to shoot out when your aim is right. If it has an explosion symbol on it, you will be fired out of it automatically.

The first bonus area is all the way to the right of the starting point. Use Dixie's helicopter spin to reach it. Here, you'll see the Diddy and Dixie Barrels. They act just like ordinary Barrel Cannons, but they have a certain Kong's head on them. Only Diddy can use the Diddy Barrels while only Dixie can use the Dixie Barrels. Use these to get to the Kremkoin at the top, but before you do, go all the way to the right with Dixie's helicopter spin at the start to get the DK Coin, which is hidden in plain sight in this bonus area.

Shortly after the first bonus area, you'll meet Kannon, the stage's namesake character. He'll appear in other stages, but this is the first time you'll see him. Sometimes he shoots barrels that you can jump on like platforms. Other times, he will shoot cannonballs, which you will want to avoid.

The warp barrel is somewhere underneath the left edge of the platform with the two TNT barrels at the start. Use Dixie's helicopter spin to move into the black bucket hanging off the platform and you'll enter it.

Shortly after the continue point, you'll meet Necky. This Necky looks more like the Necky Jr.'s from the first game and wear bandannas, and they will swoop down at you if you get too close. Shortly after the first Necky, go up and then jump to the left to find the second bonus area. For this one, you'll just have to go up with the barrel cannons to get to the top and grab the Kremkoin.

Between the N and the G is the third bonus area. Once you go up after the N and land on the first platform, jump to the right and use the barrel shot to the left by the Kannon to get to the platform leading to the bonus area. Here, just leap off all the Flitters to the right to get the third and last Kremkoin in the stage.
