FreezingInferno patches Castlevania: The Adventure - Part 1 of 5

In this game, you play as Christopher Belmont, who is out to slay Dracula. This takes place a century before the first Castlevania game.

Stage 1: Forest

The game is simplified compared to the other Castlevania games from the time: there are no sub-weapons at all, the hearts restore health since there are no sub-weapons, and whenever you get hit, you lose one of your whip power-ups. You also move pretty damn slow. Way to ramp up the difficulty even higher than it already is, Konami.

The slime men that drop down from the sky take only one hit before dying and can be hit before they hit the ground. The mutant flea men will require two hits.

The candles mostly contain hearts that refill your health, coins that give you points and orbs that power up your whip. Crosses will make you invincible for a short time.

There are three levels for the whip: the leather whip, the chain whip and the chain whip that can shoot projectiles. You obviously want the last one, since that makes the game much easier as you can attack enemies from a long distance. As mentioned earlier, if you take damage with whip power-ups in your possession, you will be downgraded one level.

The eyeballs explode when you destroy them, and that explosion can hurt you. They'll also keep re-spawning, which can be a bit of a headache.

The birds can be defeated easily. They will turn around and divebomb shortly after they fly past you, but it's easy to turn around and whack them afterwards as they'll be on your level.

To climb ropes, leap into them and press Up or Down on the Control Pad. Christopher Belmont is a pretty slow climber, though.

The fall-away platforms near the end are a little harder than they should be to the speed that Christopher moves and jumps. It doesn't take much practice to get past them, but it is a bit of a nail-biter.

The bats will try to fly into you when they see you. They can also get in your way when they rest on ceilings, making them much harder to deal with.

You'll have to jump across the narrow stationary platforms to get to the end.

To fight the boss, whip the candle and then grab the orb that you find. This triggers the boss battle. You'll want to smack the boss two or three times before moving back a bit before the boss attacks you with its hook hand. Repeat until it's dead.
