HCBailly plays Final Fantasy - Part 10 of 38

Now that we have the Mystic Key, let's see what awesome stuff we can get!

All maps by x_loto.

Northwest Castle

Map

Now that you have the Mystic Key, the first place you can (easily) return to is the Northwest Castle. Head to the locked door just southwest of the throne room.

If you open them from the side, you won't fight the fixed encounters. However, since the monsters give good experience, fighting these guys is recommended.

The Images can Stun you with physical attacks, but if you have Harm or Hrm2 on you, you should fare nicely. Fir2 also works wonders on them. The Mummys can not only Stun you, but also put you to Sleep with their physical attacks.

You'll get the Power Staff (which is useful for the Black Mage), the Iron Gauntlets (which are useful for the Fighter) and the Falchon (which is useful for the Thief).

Marsh Cave

Map

Enter the room at the lower-left corner of B3. If you take one step to the right after entering the room, you'll encounter some more Wizards. (Every little bit of experience helps!) If you go above the chest, you'll encounter six Cobras. The Cobras can't even do so much as Poison you, so if you're looking for an easy fixed encounter, you've got one here. Just wail away.

The chest here gives you the Silver Bracelet. This is useful for anyone except for the Fighter and/or the Red Mage. Just give it to someone who has a low Absorb rating.

Now go to the room directly to the east of it. The chest here is guarded by Wizards on one side and Cobras on the other side, so take them out for the experience before opening up the chest. You'll get the Silver Knife, which is a useful weapon for the Black Mage.

Now go to the room at the lower-right hand corner. You won't be able to avoid the fixed encounter here (more Wizards), but it's worth it: you'll get 1020G for your efforts.

Coneria Castle

Map

Alright, let's head back to the locked room. You'll get an Iron Staff, a Sabre, and a Silver Knife in the room to the right. In the room to the left, you'll be able to get Iron Armor, an Iron Shield...and TNT! Bring it back to the Dwarf Cave!

Temple of Fiends

Map

Head to the room in the lower-right corner. Defeat the Gargoyles and you'll be able to get your hands on the Rune Sword (another decent weapon for the Thief). The room in the upper-right corner is now available as well, and you'll now have access to the Were Sword and another Soft Potion.

The Rune Sword and the Were Sword are supposed to have special properties, but due to buggy programming in the NES version, these properties don't exist. At all. At least they're still strong weapons at this point in the game. (This is fixed in Dawn of Souls for GBA.)
