Welcome to the icy world of Zeus-3, where the difficulty picks up and ice physics are almost virtually everywhere.
Duck Dodgers On Ice
Planet: Zeus-3
Type: Ice Rings
Size: Really Huge!
Atmosphere: Chillin'
Great...we have to save I.Q. High...on an ice level. Actually, this is the most interesting level in the game.
Section 1
Jetpack to the platform to the right at the beginning to get a Bomb Gun and more fuel, then drop down. The natural rock floors make you slide around when you walk on them, while the artificial ones don't.
The thing with the rotor that moves around shoots two balls of ice both in front of and behind it; luckily, these projectiles have very limited range and can be easily brought down. You'll see them moving back and forth on ceilings at times raining these projectiles down on you, so watch out. Take the platform down to see the first of many electrical barriers you'll see on the planet. Go past it when it's not electrified, then keep going down. The artificial slopes have ice on them, causing you slide them instantly when you land on them. Also, the background here is stunning. Thankfully, thanks to advances in emulation, it doesn't look like hot garbage anymore, and it also makes for a good way of knowing where you are in the level.
Watch out for the cannons and their cannonballs, then go right. One platform has jetpack fuel, and if you go all the way up from here, you'll find an extra life. After this, go back down and go all the way to the left to continue. If, of course, you jetpack to the cannon that's facing left and is above you, you'll be able to make your way to a Continue Gem.
When you hit the Continue Point, go right. You'll face Marvin again. Shoot up at him while avoiding his lasers. When he swoops at you from ground level, jump over him. (He does this every two passes.) After enough hits, he'll drop five money bags. Grab them quickly.
Section 2
Go right, grab the fuel can, and leap up the platforms. Shoot down the martians (who is now in a winter coat, hat, scarf, boots, mittens and sunglasses), then keep going right to get a Freeze Gun. Go left after your way up instead of right here to get to another Continue Gem. Go back and go right, and take care of the Martian.
Go right with the jetpack, go up the platforms, and then fly your way up with the jetpack. You'll also collect a Continue Gem in this little flight area if you hug the left wall.
There is an enemy from Section 1 that you'll now come in better contact with: a smoke ring machine. Destroy it with the Bomb Gun. The helicopter-body thing with the legs can be safely killed from a distance - avoid it and its laser fire. Go left until you hit the Continue Point, then go back to the right. Go back down, go left and take the ice slide. Go right. If you jump over to the next platform on the right, you'll see that robot with the rotor on the ceiling, another of many lightning barriers in the stage...and a Three-Way Gun. Grab it, go back to the left, then drop down and hit the Continue Point.
There are also robots that will hover up and down as soon as you shoot at them. If that happens, keep your distance and shoot them at the lowest point of their hovering to take them down in no time.
Keep going right, go down the ice slides, and walk onto the platform.
If you stay at ground level and keep going right, you'll reach a dead end with three money bags. When you go up the platforms and to the right, you'll see mines moving up and down. If you touch them, they'll blow up. Keep going right, jump up the platforms, take care of the flying robot and go left...and we're almost back where we were.
Anyway, once you're at the platform, jump to the next platform, which takes you up. Jump left, go left, take the next platform, jump right, go right. Mini-boss time!
It's a Martian...whose head becomes de-fleshed after four Anti-Matter shots.
*insert reference to Pretty Boy from the arcade Punisher game here*
After a few more shots, the body's gone. It'll start leaping throughout the screen like a runaway electronic Pogo stick, so be prepared to run under it. A lot. When it reaches either side of the screen, block. It'll shoot at you five times before jumping around again. Once it's gone, get the cash it drops.
Section 3
There are a lot of barriers here, so be patient.
Go right and jump over the gap. Jetpack up to the ledge above you, then go right. When you see the flying robot to the right of the moving platform, destroy the robot and go up. Keep to the path, and after you drop down, go left. Go up, and keep going right until you see another artificial platform in mid-air. Jump onto it and jump to the left. Keep going left to get a Freeze Gun, then head back to the right. Follow the path right, and take the first corridor right when you get onto the moving platform to find a Bomb Gun.
Anyway, after taking care of that Martian, leap to the right, go up the artificial platforms and go right to find a Nutty Bomb.
Go back to the left, go further down until you reach the end of the stage. That's all you need to do. Now you have two robots. The Anti-Matter Gun (which you're definitely going to need for the next boss) works well here and keeps you from getting killed - I hope you have a lot of ammo for it, as it'll help you save all your Nutty Bombs for the upcoming level boss.
Boss
Stay to the left at the beginning. Jump over the spark that comes your way and watch out for any cannonballs that drop onto you. The cannonballs will drop from the right first, then left, then alternate. Jump away from the center and wait for it to perform its laser field between the two arms, then move away from the homin fireball that follows you and get some shots in. If you're close to death, unleash all of your Nutty Bombs. Just keep jamming on the A button.
After enough Nutty Bombs and Anti-Matter Gun shots, I.Q. High is free!
