PrinceWatercress plays Daffy Duck: The Marvin Missions - Part 2 of 5

The second level takes us underwater. While we can't swim, moving around will be quite different.

20,000 Martians Under The Sea

Planet: Aquarion-4
Type: Marine
Size: So-so
Atmosphere: Muggy, Chance Of Rain

This time around, you're destroying Marvin's undersea lab as well as any chances of an instant Martian army.

Once again, you'll be able to purchase weapons and such at the store. You have a lot more cash this time, so choose wisely and stock up on the essentials!

Section 1

You'll be walking on top of some dragon-like thing while the water goes up and down. Watch out for the mines as you go. To climb up the walls, jump onto the larger dragon scales.

You'll find a Three-Way gun just before you meet Marvin again. He'll drop his Martian seeds into the water, causing them to turn into Martians that jetpack straight for you, while lightning strikes in the background. Keep moving and avoid the Martians. If you take the time to shoot the Martians, you can get some free fuel.and you'll soon see the dragon's two heads.

The right one blows you to the left, while the left one spits fire. If you take care of the one on the left first, you'll take down both of them instantly.

After every few shots, both heads will duck down into the water temporarily before they resurface to continue their attack. If you do take down the head on the right first, you'll have an easier time taking the left down from the other end of the screen. If you use the Electricity Gun, you can get through this mini-boss in record time.

Section 2

I swear, if someone sings "Under The Sea" from The Little Mermaid one more time...

The fish aren't too hard. The hammerhead shark moves up and down as it goes back and forth, and when it sees you it will go for you. The fish with the propeller fins in the back just moves back and forth in a straight line. Get behind it and start blasting. The squid moves in short diagonal spurts, and can be best dealt with using the Three-Way Gun. The pufferfish, though, are the worst. They expand after one shot, and when they're just a few shots away form death, they'll try to run into you and self-destruct. If you can kill them before that happens, you'll get their cash. If they hit you, you won't. Gee, thanks, game. If you have trouble getting their money, hit them with the Freeze Gun, switch to the default blaster, then plug away at it until it dies after three hits.

Shooting in the water pushes you back further than usual, and you can launch yourself higher in the air as well because of it. This will definitely help with getting around in the rest of the level, so be wise with your jetpack fuel...you won't be finding much here, anyway.

The second Martian you see on the right path has a Three-Way Gun, and if you take the top tube below the ground that's below the first floating platform at the beginning, you'll find another Continue Gem.

The submarines have depth charges...and they are deadly. Take them on from the side, as doing it form below usually brings nasty resultys. You'll find an Anti-Matter Gun afterwards. It's the most powerful (and expensive) gun in the game, and works well against many normal enemies and bosses. Use it wisely. You'll also fight mechanical shark enemies. Shoot them while standing up; ducking will cause you to miss them entirely.

After the second continue point, go down the tube and go right. Jump-shoot to get another Continue Gem, then go back and go left.

If you jump onto the pipe after you walk out, you'll find some cash behind a puffer fish. Go all the way left, then drop all the way to the bottom. Keep going right, and you'll face the mini-boss.

Get directly under the gear in the center and shoot it down before the walls crush you. They won't kill you, but they do cause damage. Ten Anti-Matter Gun shots will do the gear in.

Section 3

A maze. Yay.

Go all the way right to find a fuel can, then go back. Go left, then go down the pipe. Go to the right, take the platform, then go right again.

There will be indestructible gears on the floor, with steam flues above them. Both will hurt you, so wait for the steam to stop blowing and jump carefully. If you get hit here, keep walking right and don't stop. You'll go straight through the gears while you're invincible. Go right and drop down the pipe.

Even if you take an alternate route, you'll end up in the next room. Go all the way to the bottom, grabbing the Orange Juice if you need to, and go left. After the continue point, keep going left.

The purple blobs jump around a lot and split into three smaller ones after taking enough damage. Kill it and its split personalities with the Bomb Gun, as it damages them when they're not in the air. In the next room with the mines, go all the way to the left, then face away from the wall, then jump and shoot your way to the platform on the water's surface. This way, in case you do take the air flue after entering this room and lose your balance as you leap from platform to platform, you can get to the last one faster.

Go through the pipe to the right, take care of the blobs and grab the Anti-Matter Gun. Go up, take the platforms, jump over the gears (keep walking left if you get hit), and there'll be an Orange Juice waiting for you.

Keep going left, and jump onto the lift. Shoot the walls above you in the side with the flashing light on it (the Three-Way Gun will make it easier to destroy to blow them up and keep from getting killed.

Boss

Just you, a shallow pool, a jar of Instant Martian pills and Marvin himself.

Shoot upwards and hit Marvin, and don't shoot the jar. Marvin moves faster than the jar, making this easier said than done, and he also shoots down at you.

Pills will still come out of the jar, but they'll come out one at a time rather than three if the jar doesn't shake from blaster impact. The Martians take one hit to kill, but they're still annoying as they fly right into you just like in Section 1.

If you have any Nutty Bombs, use them here. The jar will still shake when you use it, but you won't have to worry about Martians until the Nutty Bomb stops attacking. The Anti-Matter Gun also works well here, and you can shoot Marvin with it ten times to defeat him very quickly.
