lukenuetzmann plays Congo's Caper - Part 1 of 6

Believe it or not, this was released in Japan under the name Tatakae Genshijin 2: Ruki no Boken as a sequel to Joe and Mac and a prequel to Joe and Mac 2: Lost In The Tropics.

Thanks to rubies that magically evolve whatever they touch, you're Congo, a half-monkey, half-human "superkid." Your task is to rescue the equally-transformed Congette from the evil clutches of a winged demon.

Stage 1-1

Hold Up and press A or B to do a superjump. Hold Down after the superjump to dive. Holding L or R will allow you to run. Down allows you to crouch, and Left and Right let you move around. X and Y allow you to attack. You can also attack upwards while holding Up, and crouch attack while holding Down.

Break the red eggs with your club to get stuff.

By collecting yellow diamonds, you'll be able to inch your way to collecting 1-ups. 100 diamonds gives you a 1-up, but if you collect a large one, you'll get one anyway.

The blue sapphires that look like ice cubes get the slot machine in the upper center of the screen moving. Getting certain combinations will give you certain power-ups or advantages. Press X or Y to stop the reels.

To break blocks, you'll have to send enemies into them by defeating them and hoping they go through the blocks.

Collecting three rubies will take you one step closer to a transformed state. In this state, Congo will glow gold, therefore making him more powerful, jump higher with the superjump, and seemingly turn Super Saiyan except he glows gold and his hair is pink. Yet another game that borrows from Dragon Ball Z. They also serve as extra hits, and if you get hit without any rubies in your possession, you'll go back to monkey form. If you get hit while in monkey form, you die.

Collecting rubies after you have three hit points will give you extra lives in lieu of extra hit points.

While you can attack the pterodactyls, you can also ride on top of them.

Press Down on a slope to roll. This can let you jump over high walls.

While there is a dinosaur at the end, you can just go to the exit sign and skip him entirely.

Stage 1-2

Yet another easy level. You'll see spikes, but if you take the high road, you won't have to deal with them.

You can definitely get a few extra lives here if you can make it to this stage as Super Congo and play well enough to get all the rubies here without taking damage.

Stage 1-3

Leap into branches and vines to hang off of them. Use your superjump to move around in this state.

The vine monsters will give you new paths to maneuver with their bodies. Do not touch their heads.

Stage 1-4

Once you enter the cave at the beginning of the level, you're going to be chased by the T-Rex in the cave. You'll want to avoid touching the spikes or the enemies as you run to the right.

Whack the enemies, then roll them at the T-Rex by running at them and letting go of the run button. You'll do two points of damage if you roll them into the T-Rex.

You can get rubies out of the enemies, and if you can keep at this for a while, you can get farm a whole bunch of extra lives.

Once you beat the T-Rex, you'll enter the dinosaur's stomach. Avoid the spikes as you swim to the end. At the end, you'll meet that damned winged demon. Superjump all the way to the left side and swing repeatedly when he reaches you. If you can time it right, the fireballs he shoots won't be an issue and you can keep whacking him until he's dead. (You'll have to be Super Congo to do this.)

If you're not Super Congo, the fireballs split into five and move downwards at predictable angles. You can then whack him when he's at your level. It's slower, but it's more methodical and the way you're intended to beat him.

You'll get Congette back, but then that demon will kidnap her again! You'll also meet four other Cavemen that serve as some sort of henchmen to this clown. You'll then have four more stages to choose from, and you can choose what order you can beat them in.
