havenoshame plays Animaniacs for Sega Genesis - Part 3 of 7

In this episode, the puzzle-solving really begins to heat up.

Scene 2: Space Trucking

"Space Wars"

Hit the switch below with Wakko's mallet and jump onto the spaceship that shows up. The spaceship will be shot down. Keep going right and hit the camera that's in your way with Wakko's mallet. Use Wakko to push the crates. Remember to push the top crate before you push the bottom crate if you want to keep the stack intact. You should be able to head to the right, and then go up.

Break the stone block below the crate with Wakko's mallet. You'll come across Buttons. Blow a kiss on him with Dot to get him to lie down and act as a steppings stone over the short wall behind him. Pull the crate with Yakko and go left to the treasure chests. On the wall to the left, you'll see two messages: a blue circle with the numbers "1423" next to it, and below that, a red x with the numbers "3124" next to it. Two sequences worth remembering perhaps?

There are three treasure chests here as well. There is a one in three chance that the one you whack will give you the one up. Hit one, and they'll all disappear. You'll either get a 1-Up or nothing at all. Interestingly, this jumbles up the numbers to the left and puts them in a different order.

Go back to the right and whack the stone block below the crate, then use Yakko's pushing and pulling abilities to make the two crates here into a stack so that you can continue to the right. When pulling a stack, you'll want to start with the bottom first instead of the top, so that you have room to pull the top one back.

Drop down after collecting the two stars and you'll meet the Godpigeon. Blow a kiss to him with Dot and he'll move back and forth with the spaceship platform that he's carrying in his talons. Ride the platform to the right. Hopefully, the lasers that shoot down at you won't give you much trouble, as the platform moves slowly and the lasers are just as slow to fire. Jumping makes it worse, as the platform will stop until you land on it again. Hit the red button to open the door. You will want to be very quick to move to the right, as the two doors will make a Warner sandwich out of you. Thankfully, you can open the doors to the right after this - and keep them open - by letting Yakko push the crate to the right and onto the button. Unfortunately, once you get the first of two clocks after this, you'll want to high-tail it to the right before the doors all close again.

Once you land on the conveyor belts, you'll want to carefully drop down from the left edge and go right. This leads to the next section.

In the next section, switch to Wakko and whack the ceiling with his mallet. This causes a spaceship platform just like the one at the beginning of the scene to show up. Jump on it and take a ride to the right. This is how you're supposed to avoid the lights that fall down and the stone floor tiles that rise up under plumes of lava. The game gives you no clues whatsoever that you're supposed to do this, so I can imagine some kids rage-quitting over this back in the day.

From there, drag the crate back with Yakko, then jump up and head left. You'll find four numbered buttons. Ah, so this is what the numbers are for. The correct order will give you a star, while the wrong order will cause bombs to drop on top of you.

Head to the right. You'll come across a blue screen where you'll face Ralph. Keep hitting him with Yakko's paddleball. If you need health, jump on the spaceships in the background and break the treasure chests with Wakko's mallet for it. Keep stunning Ralph until the space background turns back into the blue screen. An asteroid will hit Ralph and knock him away, and you're free to head to the right. Be sure to head upwards for stars if you need to.

The next section has a lot of crate pushing. You'll want to push the crates at the beginning into a staircase to the next set of crates. Break the stone blocks with Wakko's mallet, then use Yakko's pushing and pulling abilites on the three crates to make a staircase leading to the right. Drop down and head right.

There's Ralph again. You'll want to switch to Yakko and use the crates to get to the top. If you need to, stun Ralph with the paddleball. When you reach the top, pull the crate onto the red button to open the second door, then grab the stars and continue right. Push the crate to the right to stop the crushing ceiling from hitting you, and hit the red button in the corner with Wakko's mallet. You can now drop down.

Switch to Yakko. Push the crate on the circle switch onto the triangle switch. This causes another crate to drop down to the left. Pull this crate as far back as it can go, and drop down onto the lift to go right and hit the third button. Wait for the door below to fully open, then take the lift and hurry to the right. Grab the star above the exit, then head right to the next section.

Use the platforms here (which are just like the four-square platforms from Chemical Plant Zone in Sonic 2) to head to the top. Head to the right and drop down when you see the two crates and the stone block. Break the stone block with Wakko, push the crate that was above it to the left with Yakko, then switch back to Wakko and hit the switch. Drop straight down, then head left and enter the teleporter which serves as the exit.

Light the cannon with Wakko's mallet, and jump in. When you're shot out, the floor will be set on fire by something you knock off one of the tables. To the right will be a mechanical walker just like the one you saw in the first scene. Jump on it to get it going, and remember to whack the red button on its head with Wakko's mallet to lower the walker and get some more stars.

You'll meet Ralph yet again. This time around, it's a race to the top. Ralph will jump onto a platform, and if he catches up with you, he'll throw lighting rigs at you. As you head upwards, you'll want to avoid the gas clouds that are caused by some of the machines, and you'll also want to avoid the electric shocks on some of the platforms. If Ralph is in your path, switch to Yakko and hit him with the paddleball to knock him back down to the beginning.

When you reach the top, you can walk through the wall on the right to get the star. Head left on the conveyor belt and you'll fight Ralph. Avoid the falling lighting as he jumps up and down, and hit Ralph with Yakko's paddleball. The Dume Rayder helmet is yours.
