Hey, whaddya know? This world's full of surprises.
Apparently, there's a third metal box you have to take care of, and it's on the trolley tracks. You'll have to take it out with the cannon on the trolley in order to open it up.

2. Once you get the Superjump power-up, you'll be able to get on the trolley and collect all the gears without crashing into something. Move left and right on the track at the right time to cover all the tracks, and shoot the ringing arrow signs with the cannon (activated with the Circle button) in order to switch paths.
