Part nostalgia-bomb, part note-taking and part FAQ, what started in GameTrailers as a video game blog is now on Blogger. This blog is a look back at video games, both popular and obscure, from the video game industry's infancy all the way to the previous console generation.
I can't figure out what's weirder...the fact that this version of the song was #1 for two weeks in 1977 while John Williams's orchestral version (the one we all know by heart) languished at #8, or that the cover of the album it's from has nothing to do with the movie. Either way, ya gotta love the old album covers' artwork.
Interesting facts - this medley was #1 in America for 2 weeks from October 1 - October 15, 1977. Meco saw the movie several times in the theater before coming up with the final version of this medley.
It is also the only instrumental single to go platinum in America. Back then, though, it sold two million copies (that prerequisite got changed to one million on January 1, 1989), which was a lot back in the day.
Thanks for reading this blog series. I'll be back with another set tomorrow!
