Next stop: the Beat Plant Tower!
Beat Plant Tower
Go to the right as soon as you enter the path to the tower and you'll enter a secret room. Here, you'll find the Shield of the King if the enemies don't gangrape you first. To make sure that doesn't happen, use the Magic Mace. You'll take a bit of damage, but the Magic Mace will kill everything before you can die. The Magic Mace is a one-time use item and damages anything it touches. It also lasts for a limited time only, so once it's gone, it's gone.
Anyway, the Shield of the King is the strongest Shield in the game, so equip it as soon as you get it. Head on out.
Overworld
Next stop is the Great Burn Tower. We're going to get some more stuff over there.
Great Burn Tower
Go straight for the Parallel Zone entrance. Now that you have all of the strongest armor in the game, you won't be taking a lot of damage from the bats that attack you as soon as you enter the Parallel Zone. Go down a few sets of stairs and you'll be able to get the Double Shot. This lets you shoot again in case your first sword misses, and it replaces the Parallel Shot when you equip it. Keep going back to the "start" of the regular zone and go right to hunt for the Parallel Zone exit.
Now that you're back, head back up to the tower (and don't accidentally go into the Parallel Zone again on the way there). Enter the tower, and fight your way to the top. As you do, go to the left on one of the floors to find a secret room...and a sword! This is the Dragon Slayer, and it's much stronger than the sword you started the game with.
To beat the Great Burn, stay at the lower-left corner and throw swords at it. This will be a lot easier with the Dragon Slayer and the Double Shot. When you beat it, you'll be able to get the Bell in the room behind it, get out of here, and take that sucker to the Holy Flame in the overworld.
