When Mario got that castle, did it really have lava in it, or did Wario reconstruct the whole place? I'm just curious, because according to the game manual, the castle used to be Mario's.
TURTLE ZONE
South of Mario Zone is the Turtle Zone. Just walk towards the mouth and the head will automatically eat you. Love how the music just progresses into the world map BGM.
Beach
The sharks are indestructible, so don't even mess with them.
Be careful when you're above the puffer fish, as they'll puff up and rise towards you when you're close enough.
Sunken Submarine
There is a secret level that you can find by going up a certain pipe. You'll have to wait for the spikes that come down as you go to the right to the secret exit, so just be patient.
If you take the harder path on the pipe maze, you'll get power-ups.
Secret Level
This is a really fun level. It's easy, and all the blocks and coins spell "Wario Land 2." You can make it "Mario Land 2" by grabbing the coins that make up the "W" and hitting invisible blocks.
Whale
The teeth act as spikes, so be careful around them.
The black platforms act like the goo in the tree level that you can jump around in to stay alive, so keep that in mind.
To beat the boss, avoid his babies and fall onto his head three times.
COIN CAVE
Just near the starting point of the game is a cave. If you go in there, you can enter any of the pipes, assuming you have enough coins. If you're wondering why all the coins make up a cumultative total and don't give you a 1-Up after collecting 100, that's why.
The 999-coin pipe is just nothing more than epic. If you're lucky, you can get as much as 50 1-Ups.
If you hit the witch on any of the wheels, you get nothing.
WARIO'S CASTLE
Alright, the final stretch. Head north of the starting point and the cave and you'll reach the castle. Since you've opened the door, you can go in.
You'll be riding a lot of platforms over lava and avoiding both fireballs and swinging spiked balls of both large and small sizes, but it'll all be worth it in the end.
The white gaps in the walls are where the moving fists are. If you step on a certain part of the floor and it turns black for a second, you've triggered a fist. Jump towards that area and you won't have to deal with it.
The skull platforms fall apart when you land on them, so you'd better know what you're doing ahead of time.
Some of the bone platforms fall when you land on them, while others rise right into the spikes while you stand on them.
The cylinders with the spikes drop down and come back up like Thwomps, but they come up slower than normal. At least you have plenty of time to run under them.
The circle with the Wario head is really easy. All it does is bounce on the walls. Just stomp on its head twice. After fighting it and going through the pipe, you'll fight two of them at the same time, which is slightly harder...unless you spin jump on them. Spin jumps take them out in one hit! You'll do this one more time before you can finally reach the final confrontation.
Wario is not only bigger than you are, he has three forms.
For the first one, stay in the air when he pounds the ground, and avoid the flask that drops whenever he shakes the screen. Jump on his head three times.
For the second form, he'll be Bunny Wario. Wait for him to stop flying around and drop like a stone before jumping on his head. If he's in the center, stand on the head of the Mario statue and you'll have a height advantage...and a free hit!
For the third form, he'll be Fire Wario. He'll be running around, stopping only to throw a fireball. Three more hits, and you've done it!
