Paula will learn at Freeze Theta at Level 31. This will allow you to freeze multiple targets.

The Teddy Bear is nice, but at this point in the game, don't be surprised if it gets torn up sooner than you think.

You'll find Exit Mice in the center of the maze; be sure to get an Exit Mouse if you can. From there, there will be three Guardian Diggers to face: one to the west, one to the north and one to the south. You'll have to find ladders to other areas to find the other two.

Ness will learn Shield Beta at Level 34.

When you beat all five Guardian Diggers, the desert music will play again, and all of the monsters will disappear. When you get out, you'll be met by the photographer on the way back up. Head back up and talk to the guy near the excavator, and he will tell you he will be able to start digging. From here, head back to the nearby shack, heal up and save and head back to Fourside. On the way there, you'll be met by George, who will tell you that his brother Gerardo is in the mine you just came out of and will hand you a diamond that Gerardo found.
