It's time for our first missions as Bob. Now that he's in shape again, he will be a big help to the Cooper Gang.
Getting Stronger
Bob gets a mission right away. How about that?
Bob has a big bone club in lieu of his cane, but you can still pickpocket people with it. Don't even ask how this works; I have no idea.
Bob's stealth kill is a butt slam, which makes sense given how big and powerful he is.
You'll have to bounce off a sleeping dinosaur to get to the job marker here. Once you get to it, Bob will be put through a series of physical challenges to get him back in shape. There are six in all, and they are as follows:
Slippery Slope - This one is the hardest due to the motion controls. You'll need to tilt the PS3 controller back and forth to balance an egg on a log for 25 seconds. With the penguins jumping onto the iceberg you're standing on, this is anything but easy. Just
Penguin Popper - Press Square at the right time to smack the penguin into the distance before the penguin jumps into the ice water. With practice, this becomes easier.
Sumo Slap - For this one, keep rapidly pressing Circle and Square. When the prompt changes to pressing X repeatedly to slap the sumo penguin, do so. It will eventually go back to Circle and This is the easiest challenge out of the six.
Duck and Cover - Press Up, Down, Left and Right on the left stick to dodge the penguins. If you're paying attention, you'll see where the penguins are coming from. Three misses and you're out!
Super Sling - You'll need to pull back on the sling with Down on the left stick, then aim with Left and Right while holding down to aim. Let go of Down on the left stick to launch the penguin. You can miss up to five times before you fail.
Whack-a-Chump - For this one, just press the button where the real penguin shows up. If you're paying attention, you can easily hit fifteen penguins. Just watch out for the fake penguins, which look like stone totems. Three misses and you're out!
You can do these challenges in any order. Once you clear them all, you'll then do a training montage. As you go through the games, they'll get faster and faster and you'll have to do less and less. You can only mess up three times before the training montage is over and you'll have to go through it again. Once you progress enough through the montage, you'll complete the job.
There is an achievement for this called "Apollo Wins" if you get through the training montage perfectly. I don't get it here, but I get it in a future video.
Going Up
You'll need to play as Murray to start this job.
Murray's Binocucom has a hood ornament of The Guru if you look through it.
Murray will need to clear out some guards before climbing a rock wall. Thankfully, Murray can easily take out the guards, but when you approach the ice wall, Murray won't be able to climb. Bob gets sent in, now that he is in shape, but Murray feels bad that he has been replaced despite training Bob, and walks away dejected. Despite looking like a story within a story that could be built on, the game never mentions this again. Why even do something like this if you're not going to make a story out of it?
Pressing R2 as Bob allows you to perform a guttural roar that scares enemies, much like Murray's old ability from the third game. This does use the Gadget Meter's energy.
To climb a rock wall, approach it, then press X and Circle simultaneously to leap onto it. Use the left analog stick to move around, and press Square to pound the wall to get anything out of your way. Left or Right on the left stick plus the X button lets you leap over gaps. Holding R1 lets you quickly slide down.
Once you enter the tree branch - and Bob figuring out how the Binocucom works - the real climbing to the Temporal Sprocket begins. There are nests that spawn pink scorpions; you'll need to destroy the nests to get rid of the scorpions for good. Also, watch out for the eggs that drop down; they will knock you off the wall if they hit you and will send you back a bit. To the right of the first egg drop is a Sly Mask (see below).
Leap across the spike pits when the spikes are down; otherwise, you'll be knocked off.
You'll then have to double jump from one nest to another. Knock the emu enemies off the nests, and smash the eggs for coins. You'll be able to get the Temporal Sprocket only to get grabbed by a pterodactyl, who flies off with the sprocket. You'll have to do some more climbing, and this time, you'll have to avoid waking up any pterodactyls. If you can see the Z's, they're sleeping and you can pass by them; if you don't, stay where you are or else the mother pterodactyl will get upset. Good thing you can move in eight directions if you need to!
Watch out for the ice jets, too. Those things will freeze you and do damage, but they won't knock you off the wall.
Once you make it to the top, you'll get the Temporal Sprocket for good.
Abilities:
Raging Inferno Flop (Murray): While in the air, press Triangle. This allows Murray to perform a belly flop that sets enemies on fire.
Fists of Flame (Murray): Gives Murray flaming fists that can burn enemies and do more damage. Hold L2 to switch between fist types, much like with Sly's costumes and Bentley's weapon types. The flaming fist does use energy on the Gadget Meter when punching.
Run While Charging (Murray): Allow Murray to move with the left stick will charging up his charge punch.
Collectibles:
Sly Mask #24 - In a nest directly across from the hideout, there is a Sly Mask.
Sly Mask #25 - There is a Sly Mask on top of this overhang.
Sly Mask #26 - Ride the icebergs from as far north as you can to find another Sly Mask.
Sly Mask #27 - To the right of where the first spike trap and egg drop section is another Sly Mask.
