SlimKirby plays Kirby's Dream Land 3 BLIND - Part 25 of 27

...and now, the abilities list.

Kirby

Fire: Makes Kirby turn into a blazing fireball and shoot forward. You can bypass some enemies with this ability.

Stone: Turns Kirby into a rock that can damage enemies. Enemies can also pass by him if he's on the ground, but he can't keep this form up for long. Of course, you're also going to be able to roll down hills.

Needle: Turns Kirby into a living pincushion.

Broom: Kirby sweeps the floor. The dust acts as a very short-range projectile. More useful for getting a few of the Heart Stars by itself, and is far more practical when combined with an animal friend.

Cutter: Kirby throws boomerangs, much like Sir Kibble.

Parasol: Kirby can use this as a weapon. Can also be used as a shield against things from above. Hold Up on the Control Pad while in the air to float.

Ice: Kirby is blue and has an ice breath. Any enemy that touches it will turn into an ice cube, which Kirby can push forward to send flying into other enemies.

Spark: Kirby can create a field of electricity around himself. If an enemy touches it, he's instantly fried.

w/ Rick

Fire: Rick has a fire breath that takes out anything in front of him.

Stone: Rick turns into a giant boulder, and Kirby gets around by walking on him. You can actually go up hills and roll down them, taking out enemies as you go. Airborne enemies can still hit you if they touch Kirby, though.

Needle: Rick's back fur will stand on end and form several needles, which can attack anything behind him. You're left vulnerable against anything in front of you, so it's not very practical unless you're really good with it.

Broom: Rick holds a feather duster out in front of him, which can be used as a weapon.

Cutter: Kirby is a boomerang, and Rick throws him. You can also move Rick with the Control Pad if you need to, and he's not stuck in the throwing animation like he was last game.

Parasol: Rick balances the Parasol on his nose, and as it spins around, Kirby stays in place, albeit in ball form. This can attack not only anything in front of them, but also above them if the timing is right.

Ice: Rick and Kirby form a snowman, with Rick being the bottom and a blue Kirby being the top. Enemies that touch Kirby get frozen. It works better against airborne enemies and only works on the ground if the enemies are way too close, so it's not very practical.

Spark: Rick and Kirby fire a beam that goes clockwise from above Rick's head to right next to him at ground level. It's like Waddle Doo's attack.

w/ Coo

Fire: Kirby becomes a fireball, and he and Coo go down and forward as they  rocket ahead for a second.

Stone: Kirby turns into a stone, and he and Coo drop straight to the ground. Kirby won't be able to hold this form for long.

Needle: Kirby becomes a giant needle that stabs anything below Coo. It's not as practical as it was in the last game, where Kirby's pincushion form was used in conjunction with Koo.

Broom: Kirby uses Coo as a feather duster. Still a better weapon than the Broom weapon by itself.

Cutter: Coo fires a feather forward (compared to the 3-Way shot in the second game).

Parasol: Coo and Kirby spin around with the Parasol above them. They don't do it as long as they did in the last game, though.

Ice: Instead of an aerial ice breath, Coo fires off a three-way ice crystal attack.

Spark: Kirby fires a thunderbolt down to the ground. It's very narrow, so it doesn't offer a lot of aerial coverage and leaves you extremely vulnerable.

w/ Kine

Fire: Kine breathes out a fire beam that goes forward a good distance.

Stone: Kirby turns into a rock and, both he and Kine drop like a missile. Kirby won't be able to hold this form for long.

Needle: Spikes form all over Kine, turning him into a living pincushion much like it does for Kirby.

Broom: Okay, this is interesting. Kine holds a plunger in his mouth. Run into an enemy as you hold the attack button, and they'll stick to the plunger and act as a human shield as you keep the button held down.

Cutter: Kine fires a cutter beam out of his mouth. It's faster and looks different from the second game.

Parasol: Kine holds a parasol in his mouth, but this time he looks straight up. It can hit enemies as it pops out, and you can float with it and slowly move around, but that's about it. It's not very practical.

Ice: Kine encases himself in ice. Enemies will have to be directly touched to run into him in order to be turned into ice cubes. It's not very practical, and it's not much better than the problematic ice shield from the last game (which froze Kine and left him open to attack if he used it too long).

Spark: Kine holds a light bulb in his mouth, which lets him illuminate dark spaces. Unlike the last game, he can no longer fire it like a missile, and the bulb bursts if he either holds it too long or hits an enemy with it. This is probably the one ability from the last game that got watered down the most.

w/ Chuchu

Fire: If you're on the ground, Kirby spits a very short-range fire breath that only attacks anything right in front of him. If you're in the air, though, Chuchu and Kirby become a two-person hot-air balloon as Chuchu becomes the balloon and Kirby flies around using his fire breath. You can mow down enemies with it just by moving into them, and even though it's a bit on the slow side, it's the best way to get the Chuchu Heart Star in World 3-5 and it's still better than Chuchu's natural flying ability. As long as you're airborne when you use it, it's hands-down one of the most interesting and probably one of the most useful attacks in the game.

Stone: Kirby turns into a stone, and Chuchu spins him around. You can only hit enemies that are directly in your path, but it's still hilarious.

Needle: Chuchu shoots needles in five directions. Three go in the air, while the other two go forward and back.

Broom: Kirby and Chuchu ride on a broomstick, witch style. If an enemy runs into any of the blue sparkles coming from behind the broom, they get hit. Fat chance of that happening often, though. Still, it's better than Chuchu's natural flying ability.

Cutter: Chuchu turns into a curved blade and Kirby swings her around. You can take out anything that's close to Kirby with it.

Parasol: Kirby and Chuchu spin around in an umbrella. Stone works better, believe it or not.

Ice: Kirby spits out snowballs, and Chuchu tosses them. The snowballs freeze any enemy they touch.

Spark: Chuchu fires off a laser that can bounce off walls and hit enemies. If you hold the attack button down, you can charge it up and create longer-lasting and even bigger beams.

w/ Nago

Fire: Kirby spits out a fireball that travels across the ground and becomes a column of fire on its way to the other side.

Stone: Kirby becomes a stone, and Nago whacks anything near him with the stone Kirby.

Needle: Nago shoots needles out of Kirby that go forward as you hold the attack button. They don't have a lot of range, but it's still a pretty good attack.

Broom: Nago buffs the floor with Kirby.

Cutter: Nago fires a cutter beam out of Kirby that goes up and forwards. The speed is pretty decent, so you can take out airborne enemies quickly.

Parasol: A parasol forms below Kirby, and Nago uses Kirby and the parasol like a pogo stick.

Ice: Kirby uses his ice breath to lift himself and Nago into the air for as long as you hold the attack button down.

Spark: Nago rubs himself on Kirby, attacking nearby enemies with static electricity. Somewhat useful, as you can plow through enemies with it.

w/ Pitch

Fire: Kirby throws Pitch foward, and Pitch becomes a real firebird who burns any enemies he touches.

Stone: Kirby and Pitch leap up, then Pitch takes stone shape and crushes whoever he lands on.

Needle: Pitch's beak stretches out and stabs at whatever's in front of him. It's a really quick attack.

Broom: Kirby shoots out water balloons. The most useful of the Broom attacks, as it actually has some range.

Cutter: Kirby throws Pitch like a boomerang. This one is fairly quick and covers a nice distance.

Parasol: Kirby swings the parasol like a golf club and hits Pitch like a golf ball, causing Pitch to bounce around and hit any enemies he comes into contact with.

Ice: Just like Kirby's ice breath, except Pitch does it...and it covers a longer distance.

Spark: Okay, this one is awesome. Kirby plays with a remote control, and Pitch flies around like a remote-controlled plane while turning yellow with sparks coming out of him. You have limited control, but Pitch can go anywhere on the screen (even through walls) and hit any enemy he touches.

If you didn't get all the Heart Stars before beating Dedede, you'd get this ending.

SlimKirby plays Kirby's Dream Land 3 BLIND - Part 23 of 27

Welp, here it is. Getting the Heart Star for World 5-5.

If you thought this was going to be hard, though, you're mistaken. It's more annoying than anything else simply because of how long this stage is as well as how most of the rooms are dead easy with Nago and the Fire ability.

We finally fight Dark Matter!

Level 6: Hyper Zone

Just like last time, you're going to be fighting Dark Matter by special means, this time with the Love-Love Stick. If you remember the Star Rod battle from Kirby's Adventure, you pretty much know how this will control. If not, here's how: press the attack button to fire projectiles, and use the Control Pad to fly around in eight directions. It's that simple.

The first form of Dark Matter flies around and has two attacks: a lightning strike that comes out of the eye as well as the ability to fire the yellow balls that surround it at you. The energy that comes out of the stick when you swing it can protect you from the balls. As for the lightning strikes, just center yourself and stand near the eye, as the lightning always fires at angles.

The second form of Dark Matter is a large white ball with a red eye, also known as Zero Two. Zero Two fires two types of projectiles: red eye lasers and black Dark Matter clones. The lasers can be destroyed with the Heart Wand if you're lucky enough, but you're going to have to dodge the Dark Matter clones and their ability to track your location to a degree. You'll want to shoot projectiles into Zero Two's eyes, and concentrate solely on dodging when the Dark Matter clones start popping out of him.

The third form is the eye that is left behind when you defeat Zero Two. This eye will do nothing but quickly chase after you. Stay on the move and keep swinging the Heart Wand as you do so. If the projectile doesn't hit this thing, the stick itself will.

The main thing that makes this battle difficult is that if you die, you'll have to start all the way back at the first form. Winning this battle is definitely still possible, and once you beat Dark Matter, you've beaten the game and saved Pop Star one last time!

SlimKirby plays Kirby's Dream Land 3 BLIND - Part 21 of 27

We finally take on King Dedede for the umpteenth time. Also, Dark Matter was behind this all along.

Boss 5: King Dedede

King Dedede attacks like he always does. He creates stars by whacking at you with a hammer and trying to squash you with a really high jump. But if you look at him, you'll see that there's something off about him.

This time around, you can fight him with an animal friend. However, this makes the inhale attack a little more dangerous. If you're on an animal friend when you're way too close when he breathes in a huge mouthful of air, you're going to be instantly dismounted as soon as you're sucked in. It's not any more powerful than what it already was in previous games, but the fact that it can dislodge you from any of the animal friends adds a miniature dimension of annoyance to the move now.

When you beat him, you're not done. This was the easy part. Remember when I said there was something off about him? Well, the glum, zombified expression on his face wasn't even part of it. When you beat him, he starts floating around and a black glow surrounds him.

Every so often, he'll float in place as a huge black eye forms around his gut. Turns out he's possessed by Dark Matter. Again. This eye will shoot balls of Dark Matter that can be spit at Dedede. If you have an ability, you can keep them from hitting you by using your ability on it until they disappear.

If you need to, you can stand at the bricks at the sides of the castle to get a bit of a height boost if you need to.

When you beat King Dedede with all of the Heart Stars in the game, Kirby will conjure up a Warp Star, and you'll be able to go to Stage 6, which takes place deep in the heart of Dark Matter.

Another tower. Of death.

World 5-6

The first section auto-scrolls upward and is full of Nellys. Depending on what door you choose at the end, you'll get Rick, Coo or Nago. You then pick between one of three doors again, and you'll get one of three useful pickups depending on which door you choose. The middle leads to a 1-Up, while the left leads to a Maxim Tomato. You'll then get a chance to choose between the three other animal friends - Kine, Chuchu and Pitch - and is once again dependent on which door you choose.

From here, enter the left door and swallow one of the Sparkys to get the Spark ability. In the next room, break the Spark blocks to get the feather behind them.

Remember the stone mini-boss from the second game? Well, he returns after this, and he goes down just like last time: avoid him and wait for the guy to hit the ground and create small stone balls that you can spit at him. Swallow him to get the Stone ability and break the Stone blocks in the next room to get the next feather.

You'll then face the parasol boss. Same strategies apply. Swallow him, get the Parasol ability, and use it to break the Parasol blocks to get the feather in the next room.

Next is the ice boss. Same strategies apply. When you beat him, swallow him to get the Ice ability so you can get the feather in the next room. You can definitely notice a pattern here, can't you?

You'll then get a room full of Sir Kibbles. Get rid of the Ice power-up and get Cutter from one of these guys so you can get the feather in the next room.

Next up is the Broom mini-boss. I think it's safe to say you'll need to get the Broom ability before you get the feather in the next room.

You'll take on the Fire mini-boss next. Take his ability and use it to get the next feather.

The last mini-boss is the Needle mini-boss. Take him down, then get the Needle ability from him to get the last feather. This is probably one of the easiest to get, but it's also the easiest - and worst - to screw up.

With the last feather comes the exit, and the last Heart Star in the game.

SlimKirby plays Kirby's Dream Land 3 BLIND - Part 19 of 27

A tower. Of death.

World 5-4 (continued)

For the eighth section, you'll be burning through even more blocks with the Fire ability. The ninth has even more, and you'll be using Chuchu and the Fire ability to go up and break the blocks above you at the same time.

In the ninth section, break through all the blocks to the right of Pitch and enter the door on the other side. You'll find a big snail shell. Move into it to pick it up. You'll be able to get the Heart Star for this stage at the end. It appears you're trying to find a snail's shell.

The door at the bottom here will take you to a mini-boss fight with a featureless snowman, save for the eyes. He'll shoot copies of his head at you, and they will stick to the wall and floor. Spit at least one of these heads back at the mini-boss. Of course, since you probably still have the Fire ability handy for whatever else that includes ice blocks, you'll use that to plow through the snowman. The snowman will move and jump around, but it's really predictable and easy to avoid. This mini-boss will give you the Ice ability if you wish to swallow it.

The next two sections are more or less enemy-filled runs to the right.

World 5-5

The picture here is a white cat. You'll obviously want to complete this world with Nago.

Instead of a bunch of long sections like we're used to, it's a smorgasbord of short "get past all of this one type of enemy in the room and go to the next one" challenges.

You can choose whatever ability in the game that you want in the first section, and you can pick between Rick and Kine in the second.

You'll then deal with Gordos, those sea anemones that shoot stars out of their heads, the little red guys with parasol heads, the Waddle Dee genies, the needle head guys, a flying guy in a red robe (who can help you heal if you're patient and careful enough) and the boulder pile enemies in the next seven sections, respectively.

You'll then be able to choose between Pitch and Chuchu in the next room.

The next part has those crushing blocks. Destroy the Star Blocks to get rid of the big rectangle-shaped crusher blocking your path.

You'll then encounter Poppy Bros. on apples, spiked turtle enemies, Sparkys, a boulder that tries to keep you from getting the 1-Up (unless you're fast enough), snowmen, and Shotzos in the next seven sections respectively.

You'll then get the chance to pick between Coo and Kine. Where is Nago?

The next room has one of those archers, but it also has an easy 1-Up if you need it.

From there, it's those propeller heads (and collectible stars!), the black balls that turn into spiders, Sparkys and spitting fish, another wall enemy that tries to lick you, purple pterodactyls, and another fake Kirby you'll never be able to interact with - again, respectively - for the next six sections. You'll then choose between Rick and Chuchu. Stop teasing me, game.

The next sections are, in this order: fire dragons, spinning rods of doom, fake door monsters, witches on flying brooms, drawings of normal enemies from World 4-6, sharks (and collectible stars!), green Cutter birds, guys that peep out of the wall, spit at you and then hide inside the wall again, mummy balls (and Pep Brews), green slime balls that will let you rocket through white puffballs. You'll then reach the end room, which means you'll have to get Nago from another part of the game, bring him here, and get all the way to the end with him.

Not only has this entry sounded like an Angry Video Game Nerd roll call, but the game has gone from being a step back from Kirby's Dream Land 2 and Kirby's Super Star (a bigger step backwards from the former), from being a challenge of both your patience of the game as well as your eyes, to pulling complete dick moves like this. What the fuck is this shit?!?
