DeceasedCrab plays Trilby's Notes - Part 4 of 13

Oh, hey! A flashback!

It should be noted that you can enter the alternate realm randomly at anytime. Nevertheless, you should be able to know what to do by now if you just look at the guide. If you need to head to the alternate realm to further the story line along and get more items, just keep going back and forth between rooms and you'll eventually end up there.

Back to the lobby. Turns out, the painting is here after all, and it's survived the fire that consumed DeFoe Manor. Touch the painting and you'll instantly enter a flashback from Matthew Defoe's memory that involves the very early history of the idol. Sir Roderick will then ask Matthew to fetch some brandy. You'll finally have control of Matthew.

Before you get the brandy, go ahead and look at both the knives, the mask and the apron. At least you'll get the history behind both of those items. Then, go to the glass cabinet and get the brandy. John DeFoe knocks on the door, and Matthew will talk to him.

Slip the painting under the door when John wants to see it, and you'll overhear Sir Roderick kicking Mr. Smythe out. Turns out Mr. Smythe told him that the tribe who could have made it all died from slavery years ago and that the idol is a forgery. The whole matter concerning Sir Roderick finding out that Matthew knows about the boy behind the door happens, and then you'll gain control of Matthew again when he hears a loud smashing sound from his bedroom. Open the door where John Defoe was locked behind, and you'll see the whole chain of events where John Defoe is murdered. As Sir Roderick kills John, Trilby is scared back into reality by Abed Chahal.
