PrinceWatercress plays Black Belt - The Longplay

...and now, the game in one shot without commentary. Enjoy.

You are Riki, and your rival Wang has kidnapped your girlfriend Kyoko! You'll have to go through six rounds in order to save her.

Round 1

Left and Right let you move left and right, Down lets you duck, Up lets you jump, and holding Down briefly before pressing Up lets you superjump. You will need to use the superjump to pick up the power-ups that fly over your head every so often throughout the game. Button 1 punches and Button 2 kicks.

The enemies here aren't that much of a problem. Just hit them before they hit you.

The red "chikara" logo gives you invincibility that lasts for ten hits. As long as the music is different, you'll be invincible. The sushi refills some of your health, but you can also refill it bit by bit if you can defeat several normal enemies without getting hit. You also get health for beating mini-bosses throughout the chapter.

To defeat the man throwing the axes, jump over the axes and keep jump kicking towards him. If you can corner him, keep kicking while on the ground.

To defeat the man with the staff, back up a bit, then jump forward and kick him. If he gets too close, punch him.

To defeat the guy with the claws, keep rocking the D-Pad left and right. When he superjumps, get close to him so you can kick him while on the ground as he comes back down.

To defeat the big man wearing black, just get in close and punch him.

To beat Ryu, step back a bit, then jump forward and kick him. From there, move back a bit again and jump kick him. Keep doing this, and if you corner him, back away when he moves past you. When you get his health low enough, you'll need to punch him in order to finish him off.

Round 2

The enemies here - who look like Road Warrior Hawk from the Legion of Doom, by the way - will sometimes superjump towards you. Pay attention, and use a punch or kick where appropriate to hit them before they can do damage.

The white sushi rolls refill your health.

Use jump kicks against the guy with the whip, and if he jumps, try to anticipate where he will land and kick him as he comes down. If you can corner him, keep kicking.

To beat the big guy who throws the knives, you'll need to watch where the knives go and jump over them, especially the low ones. Use jump kicks to clear the distance and get hits in, and use punches when in close.

To beat Hawk, you'll need to jump kick him in the face and punch him when you get close enough. If he throws a boomerang, you're too far away; use super-jumps to clear the distance. If he moves past you when you get in close, be ready to punch him. Otherwise, keep jump kicking him. Unlike Ryu, it doesn't matter what your last blow is; you'll automatically defeat him.

Round 3

Thankfully, the guys in the red gis don't jump at you.

The first mid-boss is like the claw guy from Round 1; move left and right like mad and kick him on the way down from the superjump.

To beat Gonta, superjump over him when he charges at you, then use the "back up and jump kick forwards" technique you used against Ryu. If he starts making those narrow jumps, get under and behind him and punch him from behind. When you get him down to one hit left, you'll need to hit him while he is on the ground to finish him off.

]Round 4

The hawks dive at you from the air, but if you move towards them and keep going in that direction before the dive, you can move under them.

To beat the red ninja with the whip, give yourself some distance before jumping forward and kicking. He's like the guy with the whip from Round 2.

You'll also face two guys with swords. Focus on one of them and keep jump kicking them. Both of these guys can throw shurikens, but you can easily jump over them. If you can corner one of them, keep kicking.

To beat Oni, stay all the way to the left and keep attacking with standing kicks. Whenever he hits you, kick him. He'll go down before you do.

Round 5

Just like with Round 2, the enemies here can jump. Be ready to punch or kick accordingly.

The only mini-bosses here are a pair of guys with flamethrowers. Focus on one guy at a time, jump over the flames, jump kick the guys whenever possible, punch when super-close, and if you can, corner one of them and keep attacking. You will, however, have to face them three times.

The boss is Rita, and you'll have to hit her with a certain sequence of attacks. That sequences is a jumping kick, a standing punch, a crouching punch and a crouching kick. The hardest part is getting close to Rita and hitting her without getting hit yourself, so use jumps and superjumps to clear the distance. If you're far enough away, Rita will dive at you.

You'll have to do this sequence of attacks twice to get Rita's health bar all the way down. When that happens, you'll have to land the last hit by punching Rita when she does the dive attack. Get far enough to get her to jump into the air for the dive, then walk under her and punch when she is right next to you. If you pull it off, Rita is done for good.

Round 6

It's just you and Wang - the guy who kidnapped your girlfriend.

The easy to beat Wang is to go all the way to the left, duck down and wait for Wang to jump at you and start punching the instant you face left. If you can get his health bar all the way down, you just need to hit him with a standing punch when he is moving around and you can defeat him once and for all.

Of course, the duck punch glitch doesn't always work, so you may have to do the next best thing: jump kicking Wang, stepping back a bit and doing it again. You want to do the jump kick just before you land so you can hit Wang before he can hit you. If he jumps, punch him he's in close while in the air. You must land a standing punch while Wang is on the ground for the last shot in order to beat him and rescue Kyoko. You've just beaten Black Belt!
