PrinceWatercress plays Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko - Part 1 of 32

I've played the first two games, so it was only a matter of time before I played the third one.

3:45 - The opening cutscene. Agent Xtra of the TV Terror Defense Unit has been kidnapped by Rez. Thankfully, Xtra manages to contact Gex and tell him what is going on.

5:24 - The secret Gex cave and the first of four level hubs in the game. The controls are the same as the last game: the Control Pad moves, Square does the tail whip, Triangle acts as your first-person view camera, X jumps and Circle lets you eat bugs with your tongue. You can also switch between camera distances with L2.

6:46 - The Wreck Room. This serves as the tutorial area for the game, and you'll want to go here for a few pick-ups.

7:48 - Jump onto the huge tile with the gecko handprint to open up the entrance to the first room. If you need Alfred, Gex's butler, to repeat anything, hit him with the tail whip.

8:01 - Here, you'll be using the tail whip against the dummies. Go to the sides of the room for two pawprint coins.

9:06 - Jump forward onto the platforms to raise the next one in the sequence and get to the door. Before you leave, go left of the exit to get another pawprint coin, and use your tail bounce to get a bonus coin. To do the tail bounce, just do what you did in the second game: jump with X, then tap and hold X so Gex points his tail at the ground, allowing you to bounce back up into the air.

10:06 - Speaking of the tail bounce, you'll need to use it to get through this room. There is another pawprint coin to the right of the exit, as well as left of the first pawprint platform.

11:19 - Here, you'll learn how to perform the long jump, just like in the second game. While running, hold R2 - which is also the crouch button - and press X to do a long jump. (Alfred simply tells you to press the crouch button; it's not enough, and I don't know why the developers did not catch this.) As you leap onto pawprint platforms, you'll uncover more that will help you get your first remote, which you'll need to unlock levels. It also doubles as a flying kick that you can use to defeat enemies. If you fall, you'll land in a shallow pool of water, but you can move around in this area for another pawprint coin.

12:31 - Going up the stairs takes you to the upper level...and nets you another remote.

12:53 - The pick-ups. Break the windows to get them. Flycoins appear in every stage, and collecting 100 gives you the hidden remote for the level. Picking up 50 of them will net you an extra life. (It should be noted that the tier system with pick-ups from the second game is now gone.) Pawprint coins increase your maximum health by one once you pick up ten. Bonus coins allow you to enter bonus areas when you've picked up enough of them. The monitors will give you flies you can eat. A green background means you'll replenish a hit point; while a purple background will give you an extra life. Just like with the second game, you can have the bug fly around you before you eat it, and you can use the bug as a shield to keep from losing one of your hit points.

14:59 - The Pole, which is the first regular level in the game. L1 and R1 rotate the camera. You can also choose between Novice View and Expert View in the pause menu. Novice View will always have the camera behind Gex no matter what, while Expert View keeps the camera where you put it.

16:03 - Near the entrance to the stage is a bonus area. We have the two bonus coins for this, but we're not entering it yet. Instead, we're entering the portal to Holiday Broadcasting aka Totally Scrooged to start the first stage. Unlike the second game, there are not as many regular stages, and all of them have their own unique theme.

16:38 - Just like the last game, each regular stage has three remotes to choose from, and unlike the second game, all the remotes look the same. The first one we are going for is "Create Five Ice Sculptures," and you'll have to break ice crystals with your tail whip to turn them into sculptures of Gex.

17:25 - The elves throw snowballs at you. Hit them with your tail whip until they go down. Take their flycoin afterwards. Also, the penguins drop flycoins when hit with the tail whip. Be sure to do that. Also jumping onto some presents lets you get to higher areas, while others contain flycoins.

17:52 - If you beat up this elf on ice skates, you'll be able to get a pawprint coin for your troubles. (I get all of them in this Let's Play, but I did miss a few and not all of them will be timestamped as a result. I do show where almost all of them are, though.)

18:23 - Go here for an extra life.

18:45 - This set of platforms takes you to a pawprint coin and a battle with an evil Santa. We won't go for that remote...yet.

19:15 - Hit mailboxes for flycoins. You can get up to three from them.

19:41 - The rooftops of the houses will have flycoins, so don't be afraid to go up to the roofs for them. Just don't walk on the slopes.

20:15 - The first of five ice crystals for the sculptures remote. Tail whip them three times to turn them into sculptures of Gex.

20:25 - The second of five ice crystals for the sculptures remote. Tail bounce to get onto the peppermint platforms, which tumble around as you move on them. If you manage to get onto the edge of a platform, Gex will grab on with his tongue, and you can simply tap forward on the Control Pad to get onto the platform proper.

21:23 - Another pawprint coin is on this roof.

22:40 - Another area to go down to. This is below where we found that extra life. Inside is the third ice crystal for the sculptures remote. Also, you'll find Rex here frozen in a block of ice; if you push the block of ice off the edge and into the nearby campfire, you'll thaw Rex out and be able to play as him in a few of the bonus stages (and not much else). The nutcracker statues will give you three flycoins if you keep tail whipping them.

24:23 - Here's where the doorway near the nutcrackers takes you: an area where you can swim around in the water.

24:31 - There is another pawprint coin behind these trees.

24:45 - While you can ride the platforms - which tumble just like the peppermint platforms from earlier as you move around on them -  to get around more easily, getting in the water leads to rewards as well. Dive down with R2 and use the Control Pad and X to move and swim around for two pawprint coins. Watch the air meter; if it runs out, you'll drown and lose a life.

25:34 - Here is the fourth ice crystal for the sculptures remote.

25:58 - Here's another pawprint coin behind the tree.

26:24 - Not only is the last ice crystal for the sculpture remotes here, but so is another pawprint coin. The remote will show up next to where we found Rex.

28:02 - Jump up to the top of the cliff here to find an ice rink. Beat up the two elves on ice skates and you'll get the bonus coin that is frozen in ice for your efforts. By entering the nearby building...

28:38 - ...you'll be on a snowboard in this section. You'll be in constant motion, but if you beat up the snowboarding elves by getting to the sides of them and tail whipping them from there, you can get a remote. One of the "Caution!" signs has a pawprint coin below it, and there is another above a wooden fence.. If you move under all the "Caution!" signs from the top of the hill to the bottom, you'll get a bonus coin.

36:18 - The most annoying flycoins.

37:39 - When you get a remote for the first time in a stage, you'll get an Agent Xtra cutscene. Here's the one for Holiday Broadcasting/Totally Scrooged.
