NintendoCapriSun plays Mega Man 5 - Part 6 of 9

We come to the end of Proto Man's castle and everything comes to a head! But we find out there's more to the story...

Proto Man's Castle 3

This stage has some elements and enemies from Gyro Man and Stone Man's stages, especially the platforms and the Copter Joes from the latter.

After the platform part, you'll have to deal with narrow columns for platforms and Mettaurs on turrets. It doesn't help that you have bomb-dropping robots appearing every once in a while to drop a bomb on you in an attempt to knock you into a pit.

You'll also see the snake block, which will take you across a bottomless pit. Interestingly, this was also done in Super Mario World, which came out before this game.

All of the energy tanks are easy to get, so get them when you can! They'll be a big help later in the game.

The second snake block marks the return of those falling spike robots from Gyro Man's stage.

You'll then face a purple robot with a bazooka arm. Aside from shooting at you with his bazooka, he'll also shoot rings that turn Mega Man white and freeze him in place if they touch him. He only shoots the rings if you're close to him, and you can start an infinite attack loop with him like you did with Toad Man in the previous game. To do that, stand close to him. When the circle on his chest flashes, he's going to fire the rings. If you jump at the right time, you can jump over the rings and hit him. It's difficult at first, especially since he can tell if you're in the air and shoot the rings in the air. However, if you can time it to a science, you'll be able to beat this guy in no time with the Mega Buster.

The other strategy is to jump over him and keep shooting at him with the Mega Buster. Again, this boss only fires both the rings (and the bazooka) at you when you're close to him. This has a higher success rate, but keep your energy tanks ready just in case.

Proto Man's Castle 4

For this section, your main enemy is the spikes. To go up this corridor, you'll have to shoot at the cracked blocks with the Mega Buster.

As you do this, you must be careful, as you can take out numerous blocks at a time and knock Mega Man into a ceiling. It doesn't matter if it's spike-laden or not; if Mega Man is rocketed into a low overhead, it's instant death.

When you make it to the end, you'l face Proto Man. The whistle is lower than usual, so something's up. Proto Man nearly kills you, but the real whistle shows up and so does the real Proto Man! His Proto Buster connects, revealing the other Proto Man to be some other robot with shields around him, and he helps Mega Man get all of his energy back before the battle begins.

This boss battle is much like the one against the gray robot with the shields. The only difference is that this robot can shoot at you. He sends his shields in both directions when he jumps to the other side of the room, which is his only way of moving around. Avoid him and jump over the shields, but be prepared to jump over them on the way back as they will hit you from behind when they come back.

When you win, Dr. Wily shows up. Turns out this was his Dark Man robot, and that he was behind this all along. Someone should have sent this memo to Ruby-Spears in a way that they could have gotten it when they made the Mega Man animated series (also known as "The Mega Shows") as they actually thought Proto Man was evil. Morons.

Making things worse, Dr. Light is being held captive in his castle.
