DeceasedCrab plays Iji - Part 1 of 35

The Earth has been wiped out. You must destroy the enemy!

Another freeware game covered by a now-familiar name to the PrinceWatercress blogs, DeceasedCrab. Yeah, I know. I kinda use him too much. But I like the games he covers.

The story starts peacefully enough. Then lasers fall from the sky and everything quickly goes to hell.

It has been six months since death has rained from above. It turns out an alien race known as the Tasen have attacked the building where you are, and nearly everyone in the building, including your entire family save for your brother, is dead. You, Iji, are the only known survivor...and you have been rebuilt into a Nanotech cyborg. You are the only hope to convince the Tasen to leave. Your first task is to find Krotera, a Tasen Elite soldier.

Sector 1

To read the logbooks, press C. Press Down or C to continue through the messages. Left and Right moves around, while Up jumps and Down ducks. Holding up lets you jump higher.

Press Z to kick. When your Kick is at Level 2, you can break down shield doors, and when you get it high enough, you can kick enemies. That won't happen until later in the game, though.

To climb ledges, jump and push against the wall. You can only grab onto a ledge when falling downwards.

To fire the gun, press X. Yes, you can hold it down for rapid fire. The blue bar beneath the weapon name shows how long it takes for the weapon to reload. The Shotgun (your first weapon) has a pretty quick firing rate and it also has infinite ammo.

When you destroy enemies, you'll pick up a blue Nanofield (I'll call it "Nano" for short here on in), which helps to level you up and also increase your stats. You don't have to kill enemies if you don't want to, as the story changes depending on whether you kill all the enemies or not, as well as how many you kill. Here, we're doing a "kill everything" run. I might do a "pacifist run" one day...

When you get hit, you'll take armor damage. When the armor gauge runs out, you take health damage, and the armor gauge refills. Pick up the green Nano to refill armor, and the red Nano to refill health. When you lose all your health, you die. When you take health damage, you'll blink. During that brief time when you blink, you are (of course) invincible.

The blue Tasen Soldiers fire rocket launchers. When you see smoke come out of their guns, get out of the way or take cover.

When you level up, instead of just getting stronger right then and there, you'll get a Point. These Points can be used at purple Cyborg stations. Read the message at the bottom of the screen above the HUD to see what the Cyborg station increases, and press C if you would like to level that specific stat up. You can gain up to five Points per level, which are known as "Sectors" in the game. This is on Normal difficulty, though; on Hard, you can only gain for, and the other two difficulties you can only gain three.

Stats

Health determines your maximum Health Points.
Attack determines the strength of your weapons.
Assimilate determines how much of your armor is repaired when you pick up Nano. It also determines the maximum amount of ammo you can carry for all weapons.
Strength determines how powerful your Kick is. Some shield doors will require different strength levels than others, and if your Strength is high enough, you can kick enemies and knock them back (or kill them, if they're weak enough).
Tasen allows you to assimilate new Tasen weapons.
Komato allows you to assimilate Komato weapons, which the Tasen have stolen. You won't be needing this until later, though.

When you're on the lift, press Up and Down to change floors. If the Tasen have replaced all the elevators in the building with their own, faster version and they've been in control of the entire facility for the last six months...wow, those guys are fast builders.

Now that your Strength should be at level 2, kick the shield door at the start down. At the end of the room, you'll find a poster that you can unlock.

When you go down the lift, you'll find a Level 2 shield door with ammo for other weapons you'll find along the way on the other side. To the right is a portal to the next level.
