PrinceWatercress plays Bravoman - Part 7 of 7

In this entry, we have our final battle with Dr. Bomb. This has been one weird game.

Stage 20

This stage is a maze, and you will have to get through it in a certain way in order to beat the stage. Take the top path, then go down when you can't go to the right anymore. GO down where the spike ball is, then follow the path. At the part with the multiple drops, take the far right drop for a bowl of ramen.

You'll get the ninja warrior boss again after this, then you'll get some ramen before taking on the temple area. Take out as many enemies for red icons as possible.

To do the super jump to get the very top, hold Button II as soon as you jump. If Bravoman says "Hiya!", press and hold Button II for a bigger boost on your jump.

The main boss here is the Pistol Load/Pistol Lord. Fight him just like you did last time.

You'll be able to trade red icons for food after this.

Stage 21

You'll face your evil clone at the very start, followed by Zoltan. Same strategies apply. Afterward, Lottery Man gives you a 1-Up.

Stage 22

Here, you'll fight Dr. Bomb.

Run to the right, get all the power-ups, then take out the heavy metal jesters and the floating head with the fireballs.

You'll then face your evil clone. Same strategies apply. Once you beat him, you'll get a bowl of ramen.

For Dr. Bomb's first form, do not hit his body. Hit his hair while avoiding the beams that fire towards the ground and the missiles that he shoots forward. Hitting the body does nothing.

For Dr. Bomb's second form, Dr. Bomb's head flies around and fires lasers. When Dr. Bomb's head is firing lasers, this is when you want to hit him. After enough hits, Dr. Bomb dies and his fortress explodes. Peace returns to Earth, then you get the credits and a scene of Bravoman turning back into a salaryman and reuniting with his family. You've won!

PrinceWatercress plays Bravoman - Part 6 of 7

In this entry, we fight a few more bosses and try in vain to stock up on health.

Stage 15

The sumo fighter boss is only vulnerable when he charges at you while performing multiple palm strikes. When he does this, jump over him and hit him in the back before he reaches the other side of the screen. After every four charges, he does a super-fast charge, but if you know what you're doing, you'll be able to take care of this guy fairly quickly.

You'll be able to trade red icons for food after this.

Stage 16

Here, you'll be in a temple. Lottery Man - the guy who has been giving you all the power-ups - has been captured and won't be able to help you. You can rescue him by breaking the walls near him with your attacks, but the game doesn't seem to make this clear.

Get rid of the green and red blocks - especially the ones with the brains, to get them out of your way. Be sure to avoid these blocks if they bounce back towards you, as some of them are totem faces that spit axes at you.

The boss here is your evil clone again. You fight him much like you did the last time. Just keep crouching and hitting him, and you should be able to beat this guy quickly.

Make a running jump to the right at the end for some ramen.

Stage 17

You're underwater yet again. Be ready to grab power-ups when you can, as there is not a lot of health.

The boss is the King of Atlantis with the four followers. Once again, follow one of the followers and constantly pelt them with missiles to make it a little bit easier.

You'll then face this boss again, but this time it is a fast-moving red robot head that constantly shoots projectiles as it stops and goes. Despite the different movement of the central boss, this boss can be easy to beat. Once you take out the followers, the robot head moves between the right side of the screen and your current location. Stay on the move, keep shooting, and alternate between missiles and bombs in case you have to beat this boss from above. You'll get a bowl of ramen after this.

Stage 18

It's a small boss rush! You'll face two of the heavy metal jesters simultaneously followed by the sumo guy. All the while, you'll need to lose as little health as possible to make the rest of the game easier.

The sumo boss will have two slow charges followed by two fast charges this time around.

Stage 19

It's a power-up collection stage. You can exit out of here with the bullet train power-up, but you can crawl underneath that bullet train for a bunch of health and other power-ups.

PrinceWatercress plays Bravoman - Part 5 of 7

Is this game getting harder or what?

Stage 12

At this point, the game's difficulty ramps up, especially if you don't know what to do.

There are a lot of paths that you can take. If you know where to go, you can find a bit of health and other power-ups.

At this point, it really helps to take as little damage as possible both here and in the stages ahead.

There is one point in the level with a hole in the ground, and if you fall into said hole, the game says "Trap!" and you'll fall in.

The boss here is the V9. Hit this thing in the head to deal damage. Stay out of the corners, and jump over it and the missiles to avoid getting hit.

You'll be able to trade red icons for food after this.

Stage 13

The purple guys leaps forward in an attempt to get close to you.

The lantern platforms light up as you approach them.

The boss here is a kabuki dancer. He turns into a shuriken and bounces around the room. Hit him as he bounces around at 45-degree angles, and anticipate where he moves. When he stops, he will reverse direction. If he falls to the ground, get in close and punch multiple times.

You'll be able to trade red icons for food after this.

Stage 14

It's time for yet another underwater stage. Again, keep shooting to take care of enemies, such as the snapping turtles that take multiple hits and the rainbow snakes that come out from the bottom of the screen.

The mollusk with legs gives you a rice cake if you destroy it. Also, keep an eye out for the ramen bowls, as the health they ive is useful.

The boss is an evil twin of the submarine form. Stay all the way to the left, keep shooting missiles, avoid the boss' attacks and get shots in every chance you can.

After beating that boss, you'll get a red version of the King of Atlantis with two monster heads. Just like before, aim for the heads. This time, you also have a three-fireball shot to avoid that takes up a bit of space. Use bombs if you're at the top of the screen to do a little extra damage. Once you shoot down the heads, shoot the guy on the boss' back and enjoy your bowl of ramen.

PrinceWatercress plays Bravoman - Part 4 of 7

Sometimes I could not catch a break with this game. Nothing like getting a ton of health only to ultimately lose most of it.

I also couldn't catch a break with this video; the commentary is behind on this one.

Stage 9

Super jumping near the start makes it possible to get some fireballs at the beginning. This makes it easier to deal with enemies.

The red and blue enemies that circle around you are made easier if you destroy one of them immediately; as it stops them from shocking you and draining your health.

There are a pair of pipes you can crawl through, and if you attack near the end, you'll end up in another dimension where you can get a continue. If you lose all your health, you use a continue, and if you use a continue, you start back at the beginning of the current stage. You start with five, but you can get more.

The sushi gives even more energy than the rice balls.

The boss is some sort of red robot with a scorpion tail. Attack the tail while avoiding projectiles. After some damage, the tail is gone and the boss keeps chasing after you. Keep jumping over it and hitting it as it keeps approaching you.

You'll be able to get food for red icons after this.

Stage 10

The earth monsters require two hits to kill and have very narrow bounces when they turn into balls.

The purple-haired woman is easy to beat up when you have the punch power-up. Otherwise, hit her a couple times, then back away to avoid the flames and be ready to move to avoid the daggers. When she runs up to the roof, you can still hit her.

You'll be able to get food for red icons after this.

Stage 11

Here, you can get a ton of power-ups. If you can find the fireball power-ups, you can destroy the face robots easily.

The bullet train power-up lets you skip the rest of the stage and go on to the next one.

PrinceWatercress plays Bravoman - Part 3 of 7

In this entry, we meet a bunch of new enemies and go underwater again.

Stage 6

Gotta love the background change.

You can go up the clouds at the beginning of the stage by jumping on the street lights and then jumping upwards from there.

The bowl of ramen gives a slightly bigger health boost than the rice cake

The orange enemy on the balloon deflates and drops on the first hit, and goes down on the second. It will eventually re-inflate its balloon and start floating again if you don't defeat it fast enough.

The atom lets you shoot projectiles for a limited time.

There are power-ups that are out in the open; they can disappear after a short time.

Zoltan will move up and down in the center as he goes left and right, then hangs back with his shield while shooting projectiles. When his shield is behind his back, kick him with Up and Button II, then get away from the projectile. Repeat until he's gone.

You'll be able to get food for red icons after this.

Stage 7

Another underwater stage! Keep on firing to get rid of enemies and shoot down certain blocks like you did in the last one. Take care not to get hit a whole lot; getting energy back in this stage is impossible. Once again, keep an eye on all sides and corners of the screen.

The jellyfish will latch on and force you to get rid of them by pressing Button I to bomb them. All the while, they will sap away your health until you get rid of them.

The boss here is the overlord of Atlantis. Stay on the move and keep hitting the four underlings that circle him, and watch out for those projectiles. If you focus on one guy as he moves towards you to shoot out a whole barrage of missiles at him, that can make this easier. You'll get a bowl of ramen when you win.

Stage 8

The flying birds will shoot knives at your current position. The umbrella bombs will drop down

Go up top at the beginning for points and two rice balls.

The basket guys move towards you and go down in two hits. If you hit them when they run away, they will tell you to leave them alone.

There are bamboo spikes that move up and down. Watch out for them.

To beat Pistol Load/Pistol Lord. hit him from a distance and jump over all of his missiles. When he flies to the other side, be ready to avoid or destroy the fans that he drops.

He will beg for mercy before shooting at you; be ready to jump over that shot.

You'll get food for red icons after this.

PrinceWatercress plays Bravoman - Part 2 of 7

In this entry, we get to see a little more variety with an underwater stage thrown in. Also, there's an evil Bravoman running around, too.

Stage 3

This is the first underwater stage. The D-Pad lets you move, Button II lets you shoot missiles and Button I lets you drop bombs.

There will be enemies everywhere, and while some will simply move forwards, others will either home in on you, drop down or stay still while firing projectiles. Thankfully, the projectiles can also be destroyed. Keep an eye on the screen as you move around; you never know when and where enemies will seemingly show up from out of nowhere.

The boss here is a guy riding a two-headed dragon. Shoot down the dragon heads while avoiding the projectiles they spit out. After the heads go down, you can shoot down the boss proper, get a rice cake for your efforts and head to the next stage.

Stage 4

The green guys with the bombs strapped on them take two hits to kill.

The platforms will slowly rise up, stay up there for a few seconds, then quickly drop down like some sort of guillotine. If these platforms hit you on the way down, you're taking damage.

You can either take the high road or the low road.

It is possible to do a super jump by holding Button I and then holding Button II; I get the timing down better in a future episode.

The snakes and the mice just move towards you, as do the green ninjas, but the green ninjas also throw bombs at you.

The boss here is some sort of rock 'n roll jester who throws knives at you. It is possible to duck under his knives if you duck as soon as he throws them and stay ducked down, but most of the time, you will have to stay on the move to avoid getting hit. The boss will stay in one place on the ground some of the time, but you will have to stay on the move to avoid getting hit. You'll be able to get food for red icons after this.

Stage 5

The mole robots will shoot a missile before moving towards you. They take four hits before going down.

The fist power-up gives you move powerful attacks.

The green and red robot that has electricity coursing through it will fire a mouth beam that will pack a punch and stun you for a few seconds.

Down-Left and Down-Right lets you crawl.

The boss here is an evil Bravoman. He fights much like you do, and the best way to fight him is to strike with crouching attacks while keeping a fair distance away. You may take damage from this boss moving through you, but as long as you keep crouch attacking, you should have a good shot at beating him. You'll be able to get food for red icons after this.

PrinceWatercress plays Bravoman - Part 1 of 7

Here's a rather odd game for the TurboGrafx-16 and PC Engine. You have a weird hero with stretch arms, bizarre enemies, a ton of boss fights and a main antagonist with a giant hair-do. Somehow, this game made its way here.

You're Bravoman, the salaryman turned superhero with powers from the planet Alpha who must save the world from the nefarious Dr. Bomb!

Stage 1

The Control Pad lets you move around, If you hold Left or Right long enough, Bravoman will start running after about a second. Down lets you crouch as well as look down a bit. Button I lets you jump and Button II lets you attack. Tap Button II to make your extending arms and legs go short distances, and hold Button II down to make your extending arms and legs go longer. Up + II lets you kick upwards.

You can jump pretty high, and this will allow you to jump across the messes of pipes that you'll have to get past every so often. You can also jump onto clouds to see if you can find some power-ups.

As soon as you head right, you'll meet a guy in a cape. He will tell you to smash Dr. Bomb's robot corps before flying off.

Some enemies will be low to the ground, while others can be slightly above you. This is where your crouching attacks and upward kicks will come into play.

The red bar at the bottom is your life, and if that runs out, you'll die and be forced to use a continue. On the lower-right corner is a pair of Japanese symbols, and as you pick up red Japanese symbols dropped by defeated enemies, you will complete the symbols and get a red icon. (The symbols spells "seisei," meaning "correct.") The more you complete the symbols, the more red icons you'll get, and the more red icons you get, the more you'll be benefitted, as you'll soon see.

Stage 2

Every once in a while, a guy with a gold wheel for feet will drop down, and you'll hear a chime indicating that he is coming down. He will usually drop a power-up, such as a rice cake that will give you a little bit of health. Keeping your health high is very important in this game, as the more health you have, the easier it will be to get through the game in case you hit any trouble spots.

One of the phone booths says "Hello I'm Japanese telephone box." if you punch it. Don't know why.

The sake (ramune?) bottle gives you temporary invincibility. The talisman just gives you bonus points.

The boss here is a totem pole. Duck down and attack the bottom segment, then jump over it when it bounces back and spins towards you. From here, keep attacking while ducked down to destroy the axes and the head of the pole. Attack the last portion and then jump over it when it moves, and you'll be done with the boss.

The guy with the gold wheel for legs will give you food at the end. The more red icons you have, the more rice cakes you'll earn to refill your health with. Again, keeping your health high is essential for playing this game well.
