After two whole stages' worth of overly long levels, the levels get smaller in Stage 12. Unfortunately, the game wants to drown you with enemies and there's a ton of brown.
Stage 12-1
Stage 12 takes place inside of a castle, and there's a lot of brown. The springboards in the floor are a darker shade of brown, but they blend in with the floor a bit too well. This really becomes apparent in Stage 12-8.
There are portraits of Taz in the treasure room and Taz banners in the main levels, and you'll also see Taz statues every so often. Oh, look, Taz is the final boss!
Also, this level has way too many Gossamers. It doesn't help that all the weapons are in rooms with two chests and you're forced to take a 50-50 shot at getting any (the other chest will always be a heart, which we haven't seen in a while).
Stage 12-2
Thankfully, this level is a little more fair with the weapons. This makes it easier to take care of the Gossamers.
Also, the levels are smaller after two whole stages worth of levels that go way longer than they should. At last!
Stage 12-3
I had an easier time with this level than the first two. Who would haven thought?!?
