PrinceWatercress plays Nakayama Miho no Tokimeki High School - Part 1 of 7

This is quite possibly the most unconventional game I've covered on the channel so far. Wanted to play through this for a while, and I'm definitely glad that I have.

This game is widely considered the grandfather of all those dating simulation games back in Japan, as well as one of the few video games out there to use a J-Pop Idol as its launchpad and selling point.

Why did I do this game? Because I have a copy of Miho's "Catch the Nite" album from 1988 and it's really not that bad.

The game begins with you, the main character, having transferred to a new school. The main character has seen all of Miho's TV appearances and has all of her records. You'll eventually run across a guy with a big head in the classroom who stares at you. Choose the first option (examine), then move the hand cursor to the guy's head and press A. You'll finally notice he's staring at you. Choose the second option (talk) and and you'll talk to the guy. His name is Sadakichi, and he just so happens to be a big fan of Nakayama Miho as well. The first thing he does is give you the number to Miho Nakayama's fan hotline, which is (well, was, in this case) a real phone number.

Back during the game's release, the phone numbers in the game gave you clues from Miho Nakayama herself. You would be able to hear Miho Nakayama's voice as she gave you gameplay hints over the phone. These phone numbers were discontinued after the original print run of the game and its contest ran their course, and a subsequent print run not only gave you the numbers, but put said hints on the screen. Also, you wouldn't be able to dial these numbers anyway, due to changes in area codes in the Japanese phone number system. Press B to exit out of this screen.

Talk to Sadakichi again with the second option, then you'll notice the first option has changed. Select it, and you'll leave the classroom only to run into a young girl. She'll drop something when you bump into her, then you'll talk to her, but not for long. Press A, and she leaves. You'll see Sadakichi. Pick the first option, then move the cursor so the pointer finger is on the thing that she just dropped. Press A on it, and you'll take it. The third option will change. Select it to examine it, and you'll find out it's some sort of mascot.

You'll then three girls known as the Typhoon Trio. According to Sadakichi, whenever they appear, a terrible storm is about to happen. After they disappear and Sadakichi talks to you, pick the second option to talk to Sadakichi again. You'll meet Erica, a rich, competitive girl looking for love. Pick the second option, she'll talk to you, and then you'll have to select it again to get more text. You'll talk to Sadakichi again, and you now have the ability to leave with the first option. Pick it.

When you do, you'll run Masaomi, a rich, handsome jock of a young man who happens to be a bit of a playboy. After your conversation, select the second option, and he'll disappear. You'll meet the Typhoon Trio again talking about Masaomi, then they'll disappear. Sadakichi will show up and tell you there is a classroom where the girls are changing from their school outfits to their gym outfits. Select the second option and you'll get a peek at two of the girls changing. Press A, and you'll run into the girl you bumped into earlier. Talk to her with the second option, and she'll tell you she's dropped her mascot. Select the third option, and select the only option in the next menu. You'll give it back and you'll get a slightly longer conversation with the girl.

The girl will thank you, and tells you her name is Mizuho. After some more conversation, you'll be back in the hallway with Sadakichi. After the conversation, you'll head back home, where your brother will be waiting for you.
