PrinceWatercress plays Kyatto Ninden Teyandee - Part 4 of 11

Princess Vi has snuck out, and it's up to us to go to Tengu Mountain and save her.

First | Previous | Next | End | Longplay

Stage 4

In this episode, Princess Vi sneaks out of the castle and heads to Tengu Mountain. Unfortunately, a lot of Ninja Crows have been spotted there.

The robots that spin around can be hit even in tornado form, and they take three hits to defeat.

The jug enemies will now spit out eggs that turn into birds if they hit the ground.

The guys who are shampooing their hair will shoot bubbles that do a fairly good job at tracking you; thankfully, both can be destroyed.

The women in bikinis shoot flames at you; thankfully, you can destroy the flames if they get in your way.

The boss here is a Tengu scarecrow. Get it to one side, then strike it when it leaps towards you. This will knock it back, and since it is at the side, the four projectiles it drops will not all drop. As long as you corner them, this battle is super-easy.

After the battle, Princess Vi will take a ride on Speedy only to squash him while Guido and Polly walk away.

PrinceWatercress plays Kirby's Dream Land 3 - Part 13 of 14

I hated recording this part. Seriously.

First | Previous | End

Remember the "World X-3" mini-games you had to complete to get some of the Heart Stars? Well, you're doing them all again, all in a row. The same strategies apply.

The first game has some white blobby guy with a hat throwing circles behind a wall. Pay attention to what he's throwing, as each circle has a different face. Get all of them right and you'll get the Heart Star for this stage.

For the second one, you'll have to guess which pot out of the five the eel is in. You have to guess which one he was in last. If you can guess correctly three times, you'll get the Heart Star!

For mini-game #3, pay attention to the ten Gordos and count how many open their eyes. If you guess right, you'll get a point. Guess correctly three times and you'll get the Heart Star for this stage. If a Gordo has a grin, he doesn't count! Be careful on that, because this can trip you up at least once.

In mini-game #4, you'll meet some guy who's red, yellow and blue. You'll see a bunch of Gordos in multiple colors. They'll either be red, blue, yellow or black. This guy will then ask how many Gordos of a certain color there were, so you'd better be paying attention! It also gets much quicker on the third attempt, so you have to be ready to count as quickly as possible. You'll get the Heart Star after three consecutive correct guesses.

The finale is the mini-game featuring Chef Kawasaki from Kirby Super Star. Five Gordos will drop, and each one will make a sound. Kawasaki will whack the Gordo next to him with his pan, which will match the sound that one of the Gordos made. You'll have to choose which Gordo originally made that noise. After three correct guesses, you'll get the Heart Star at the end of the stage.

Guess what? This part is hard as balls. The first two mini-games are all right, but from there, it's nothing but RNG with games that go too fast that force you to rely entirely on luck. The fifth mini-game isn't much better; some of the Gordo sounds are a bit too similar to each other.

When you get perfects on all five mini-games in MG5, you'll get the Jumping mini-game.

Remember that mini-game at the end of each level where you had to leap to the power-up of your choice? Well, guess what? You're doing it here, except this time, you're doing it eight times in a row. Avoid the needle guys and land on the happy faces. It's easy at the beginning, but as you progress, it gets harder until there is only one space with a happy face under it.  If you can land 10 successful jumps before hitting a needle guy, you'll get the scene select and 100% completion on this game!

Not surprisingly, I hated this one as well. Even with the speed down to half; I still kept dying. I enjoyed the boss battle, but this game and MG5...no. Just...no. Those two games were absolute torture to do and became the exact reason I hated getting 100% on this game. I don't always want easy, but I do want possible, and this just crossed a line.

When you get 100%, you'll be able to see all of the cutscenes, including the bad ending complete with enemy roll call, which I show off.

And now, the Boss Butch guide!

First | Previous | Next | End

In Boss Butch mode, it's just Kirby and the bosses, one after the other in an endurance run. No abilities, no animal friends, and no Gooey. Prepare to push out several attempts before you finally beat it.

Also, the screens you fight the bosses in have a different appearance, too.

World 1: It's autumn instead of spring.

World 2: Instead of inside a cave, it's out in the open in front of a blue sky.

World 3: It's now night, the background it lit up (and animated) and there are leaves blowing around.

World 4: The clouds are grey, and the colors aren't as bright as last time.

World 5: They sky is pinkish-red, and it looks like there are leaves blowing around.

World 6: The dark hues are replaced with yellow, green and orange.

Boss 1: Whispy

Whispy's back as the first boss in the game. *sigh* Old friends (or enemies) never die. Just inhale the fruits that Whispy spits out and send them back at him. At least he has more than just the apples this time around.

What's that? He MOVES when you bring him down to half health? Okay, now that's impressive.

He still spits the fruit out as he chases after you, it just goes farther before dropping to the ground. With that being said, it's not that much more difficult. He sure is getting tired of being the initial punching bag of the game, though.

World 2 Boss: Acro

Acro will leap toward you and and try to tackle the wall. Jump over his tackle attack and spit the rock that comes out of the wall back at Acro. After he takes enough damage, you'll fight him underwater. Use your air attack to send the objects Acro spits out back at him. If he hits a wall, rocks will drop from the top of the screen, and you can use those against Acro as well.

It takes a little longer than it should, as this sometimes sends the objects back at an angle, but it's still doable and a little safer than using an ability.

World 3 Boss: Pon & Con

Pon & Con is actually a combination boss. This is much like the fight with Nelly and Nruff in Kirby's Dream Land 2.

You're basically fighting a raccoon and a fox. Swallow the miniature raccoons and foxes and spit them at the bigger ones whenever they're onscreen. Watch out for the bombs that drop from the ceiling at the sides of the room. They don't move around, but they do explode after a few seconds.

World 4 Boss: Ado

Ado is a new addition to the Kirby series in this game, and she would also appear in Kirby 64 under the name Artie, though the question of whether this is the same character with a different name has never officially been answered.

Ado draws pictures of bosses from the last game in the Dream Land series, which come to life. The first one is the Snow Dragon. He comes with all of his signature attacks, including the ice breath. Just spit the ice blocks he sends at you back at him.
The next boss is the Ripple Field boss from the previous game. Duck under the spikes, run under him as he bounces to the other side and spit the starfish he sends at you back at him.

The third boss is Mr. Shine and Mr. Bright. One will fly around and throw stuff at you while the other stays near the ground and gets in your way. They switch positions every so often, so you'll get your chance to take out both of them before you know it.

Once you take out Mr. Shine and Mr. Bright, you finally take on Kracko...or at least a painting of him. He flies around trying to zap you with a lightning bolt and sends miniature clones of himself at you. Spit the mini-Krackos at him and avoid the lightning bolts. Once you bring him down to half health, he stops being a joke and will move from one side of the screen to the other as he zaps a bolt of lightning across the ground. Run away from him and hide in the corner so you don't get hit, and spit the mini-Kracko at him whenever he spits one out. This is harder than expected, as he dives towards the ground as he loops across the screen and spits out four of them, and they all either go up or down.

When you take out Kracko, Ado will finally run towards you in anger. Slide into him. It's over.

Boss 5: King Dedede

King Dedede attacks like he always does. He creates stars by whacking at you with a hammer and trying to squash you with a really high jump. But if you look at him, you'll see that there's something off about him.

This time around, you can fight him with an animal friend. However, this makes the inhale attack a little more dangerous. If you're on an animal friend when you're way too close when he breathes in a huge mouthful of air, you're going to be instantly dismounted as soon as you're sucked in. It's not any more powerful than what it already was in previous games, but the fact that it can dislodge you from any of the animal friends adds a miniature dimension of annoyance to the move now.

When you beat him, you're not done. This was the easy part. Remember when I said there was something off about him? Well, the glum, zombified expression on his face wasn't even part of it. When you beat him, he starts floating around and a black glow surrounds him.

Every so often, he'll float in place as a huge black eye forms around his gut. Turns out he's possessed by Dark Matter. Again. This eye will shoot balls of Dark Matter that can be spit at Dedede. If you have an ability, you can keep them from hitting you by using your ability on it until they disappear.

If you need to, you can stand at the bricks at the sides of the castle to get a bit of a height boost if you need to.

Level 6: Hyper Zone

Just like last time, you're going to be fighting Dark Matter by special means, this time with the Love-Love Stick. If you remember the Star Rod battle from Kirby's Adventure, you pretty much know how this will control. If not, here's how: press the attack button to fire projectiles, and use the Control Pad to fly around in eight directions. It's that simple.

The first form of Dark Matter flies around and has two attacks: a lightning strike that comes out of the eye as well as the ability to fire the yellow balls that surround it at you. The energy that comes out of the stick when you swing it can protect you from the balls. As for the lightning strikes, just center yourself and stand near the eye, as the lightning always fires at angles.

The second form of Dark Matter is a large white ball with a red eye, also known as Zero Two. Zero Two fires two types of projectiles: red eye lasers and black Dark Matter clones. The lasers can be destroyed with the Heart Wand if you're lucky enough, but you're going to have to dodge the Dark Matter clones and their ability to track your location to a degree. You'll want to shoot projectiles into Zero Two's eyes, and concentrate solely on dodging when the Dark Matter clones start popping out of him.

The third form is the eye that is left behind when you defeat Zero Two. This eye will do nothing but quickly chase after you. Stay on the move and keep swinging the Heart Wand as you do so. If the projectile doesn't hit this thing, the stick itself will.

The main thing that makes this battle difficult is that if you die, you'll have to start all the way back at the first form. Winning this battle is definitely still possible, and once you beat Dark Matter, you've beaten the game and saved Pop Star one last time!

We head to High Shine Tower to keep The Big Cheese's men from hijacking the broadcast signal as we show off some gameplay with Polly Esther.

First | Previous | Next | End | Longplay

Stage 3

In this stage, Bad Bird has gone to High Shine Tower - the broadcast tower for all of Little Tokyo - in order to hijack and get The Big Cheese one step closer to becoming emperor.

Polly's regular attack lasts longer that Speedy's and Guido, and if you're close enough to an enemy, you can hit them twice with it. Her ninpo attacks are a pink heart kunai, a pink boomerang and a full-screen attack that flashes pink.

The metal platforms will disappear if you're on them for long enough, although it is possible to get on them and then back off without them disappearing at all if you're fast enough.

The drum enemies are much like the guitar enemies from the last stage. Also, the faces with the wagging finger will shot a lightning bolt at your current location.

When you have a choice between going up and going right, go up for a bunch of power-ups. Right simply leads to a spike pit with the disappearing platforms and nothing more Either way you go, you'll eventually reach the bottomless pit with even more of those platforms. Eventually, you'll need Batcat to get past the huge chasm near the end to fight some fast bird enemies that will try to leap at you get to the boss.

The boss here is some flying thing that drops pigs on you. If you dig the dirt in the gaps in the floor, you can make it so that these pigs can get trapped in the holes you've made until they disappear. Just let the pigs leap over you, and hit the flying pig head boss after it comes down and flies your way. After you hit it, it will go back to the top center before dropping a pig and coming at you again. The pigs will bounce towards you upon hitting the ground, but you can walk under them as this is happening.

After the boss battle, The Big Cheese takes his anger out on Jerry Atric.

PrinceWatercress plays Kirby's Dream Land 3 - Part 11 of 14

We face Dedede and Dark Matter here, but we're not done yet...

First | Previous | Next | End

If you need to, you can stand at the bricks at the sides of the castle to get a bit of a height boost if you need to.

When you beat King Dedede with all of the Heart Stars in the game, Kirby will conjure up a Warp Star, and you'll be able to go to Stage 6, which takes place deep in the heart of Dark Matter. Otherwise, you'll get the bad ending that shows up at the end of this video.

The third form is the eye that is left behind when you defeat Zero Two. This eye will do nothing but quickly chase after you. Stay on the move, keep moving in a circle and keep swinging the Love Love Stick as you do so.

Back at the game select screen, however, we're at 97%. If we go to the game options in our save file, however, we have an M option and a B option. The M is a mini-game rush of all the Stage 3 mini-games, while the B is a boss rush with Kirby and Kirby only. You will have to complete this for two of the last three percentage points.

PrinceWatercress plays Kirby's Dream Land 3 - Part 10 of 14

We've got the final Heart Stars of the game. All that is left is the final battles with Dedede and Dark Matter!

First | Previous | Next | End

World 5-4

The first two sections are a run to the right. The first one is pretty simple, but the second one is a downward slope interspersed with bats and guys running around in sheets.

The third section has you standing on breakaway blocks, which allow you to drop the door below. Swallow one of the fire dragons, and you'll be able to use the Fire ability to break through the ice blocks and find two more doors at the bottom. You'll find an animal friend in each one. Coo is in the left door, while Rick is in the right door.

The fourth section has spiked columns made of ice that slowly float upwards before pounding the ground.

The fifth section has you outrunning icicles. If you have Coo (from the left door in the third section) and the Fire ability, this is really easy.

The sixth section is an upward climb to the top. It appears that the snowballs can be handled just like the boulders that roll after you from Level 3. Just use Fire to get past them unscathed.

The seventh section has those yellow, toothy fish. Tread with caution. If you have the Fire ability, you can destroy them, believe it or not. You'll just have to hit them at the right time.

For the eighth section, you'll be burning through even more blocks with the Fire ability. The ninth has even more, and you'll be using Chuchu and the Fire ability to go up and break the blocks above you at the same time.

In the ninth section, break through all the blocks to the right of Pitch and enter the door on the other side. You'll find a big snail shell. Move into it to pick it up. You'll be able to get the Heart Star for this stage at the end. It appears you're trying to find a snail's shell. (For some reason, if you ride an animal buddy you haven't ridden in the stage yet, you have to press another button before going Left or Right. It's some sort of glitch that's specific to this room, I'm guessing.)

The door at the bottom here will take you to a mini-boss fight with a featureless snowman, save for the eyes. He'll shoot copies of his head at you, and they will stick to the wall and floor. Spit at least one of these heads back at the mini-boss. Of course, since you probably still have the Fire ability handy for whatever else that includes ice blocks, you'll use that to plow through the snowman. The snowman will move and jump around, but it's really predictable and easy to avoid. This mini-boss will give you the Ice ability if you wish to swallow it.

The next two sections are more or less enemy-filled runs to the right.

World 5-5

The picture here is a white cat. You'll obviously want to complete this world with Nago. (This means that Coo the Owl is the only one without a Stage 5 mission. *insert foreveralone.jpg here as a throwback to 2010 GameTrailers PrinceWatercress here*)

Instead of a bunch of long sections like we're used to, it's a smorgasbord of short "get past all of this one type of enemy in the room and go to the next one" challenges.

You can choose whatever ability in the game that you want in the first section, and you can pick between Rick and Kine in the second.

You'll then deal with Gordos, those sea anemones that shoot stars out of their heads, the little red guys with parasol heads, the Waddle Dee genies, the needle head guys, a flying guy in a red robe (who can help you heal if you're patient and careful enough) and the boulder pile enemies in the next seven sections, respectively.

You'll then be able to choose between Pitch and Chuchu in the next room.

The next part has those crushing blocks. Destroy the Star Blocks to get rid of the big rectangle-shaped crusher blocking your path.

You'll then encounter Poppy Bros. on apples, spiked turtle enemies, Sparkys, a boulder that tries to keep you from getting the 1-Up (unless you're fast enough), snowmen, and Shotzos in the next seven sections respectively.

You'll then get the chance to pick between Coo and Kine. Where is Nago?

The next room has one of those archers, but it also has an easy 1-Up if you need it.

From there, it's those propeller heads (and collectible stars!), the black balls that turn into spiders, Sparkys and spitting fish, another wall enemy that tries to lick you, purple pterodactyls, and another fake Kirby you'll never be able to interact with - again, respectively - for the next six sections. You'll then choose between Rick and Chuchu. Stop teasing me, game.

The next sections are, in this order: fire dragons, spinning rods of doom, fake door monsters, witches on flying brooms, drawings of normal enemies from World 4-6, sharks (and collectible stars!), green Cutter birds, guys that peep out of the wall, spit at you and then hide inside the wall again, mummy balls (and Pep Brews), green slime balls that will let you rocket through white puffballs. You'll then reach the end room, which means you'll have to get Nago from another part of the game, bring him here, and get all the way to the end with him.

Not only has this entry sounded like an Angry Video Game Nerd roll call, but the game has gone from being a step backwards from Kirby's Dream Land 2 and Kirby's Super Star (a bigger step backwards from the former), from being a challenge of both your patience of the game as well as your eyes, to pulling complete dick moves like this. What the fuck is this shit?!?

World 5-6

The first section auto-scrolls upward and is full of Nellys. Depending on what door you choose at the end, you'll get Rick, Coo or Nago. You then pick between one of three doors again, and you'll get one of three useful pickups depending on which door you choose. The middle leads to a 1-Up, while the left leads to a Maxim Tomato. You'll then get a chance to choose between the three other animal friends - Kine, Chuchu and Pitch - and is once again dependent on which door you choose.

From here, enter the left door and swallow one of the Sparkys to get the Spark ability. In the next room, break the Spark blocks to get the feather behind them.

Remember the stone mini-boss from the second game? Well, he returns after this, and he goes down just like last time: avoid him and wait for the guy to hit the ground and create small stone balls that you can spit at him. Swallow him to get the Stone ability and break the Stone blocks in the next room to get the next feather.

You'll then face the parasol boss. Same strategies apply. Swallow him, get the Parasol ability, and use it to break the Parasol blocks to get the feather in the next room.

Next is the ice boss. Same strategies apply. When you beat him, swallow him to get the Ice ability so you can get the feather in the next room. You can definitely notice a pattern here, can't you?

You'll then get a room full of Sir Kibbles. Get rid of the Ice power-up and get Cutter from one of these guys so you can get the feather in the next room.

Next up is the Broom mini-boss. I think it's safe to say you'll need to get the Broom ability before you get the feather in the next room.

You'll take on the Fire mini-boss next. Take his ability and use it to get the next feather.

The last mini-boss is the Needle mini-boss. Take him down, then get the Needle ability from him to get the last feather. This is probably one of the easiest to get, but it's also the easiest - and worst - to screw up.

With the last feather comes the exit, and the last Heart Star in the game.

PrinceWatercress plays Kyatto Ninden Teyandee - Part 2 of 11

We head to the docks for the second stage. It's easy now, but it does get more difficult.

Stage 2

In this stage, Bad Bird kidnaps Lucille at the inauguration day of the Emperor's new ship, and forces her to sink the ship. Lucille isn't having this, and she starts firing missiles at Big Bird. This tips Speedy Pizzas, who is looking for her at the docks, off to Lucille's location.

When it comes to ninpo, Guido Anchovy can throw kunai, but he can also throw his parasol like a boomerang and he has a full-screen attack just like Speedy does.

The notes from the guitar-playing enemies will hurt you, but you can destroy them as well.

The birds at the top of the first ladder will line up with you before rushing at you much like some of the Bad Bird henchman. Also, there are white birds that can drop power-ups when you hit them.

The underwater section near the end will take you to some power-ups, including a heart with a paw that restores all your hearts.

You'll soon find Lucille, but it is Bad Bird that needs helping after being hit by eight missiles. You'll then face the boss, Princess Goldfish. When Princess Goldfish shows up, jump up and hit her at least once, then stay on the ground so you don't get hit. If Princess Goldfish somehow shows up near you, you may be able to get two hits, and if you hit her as she flies across the screen, you'll knock her back.

After the boss battle, The Big Cheese takes his anger out on Bad Bird.
