lukenuetzmann plays Super Star Wars - Part 8 of 8

"You're all clear, kid, now let's blow this thing and go home!

The last two levels in the game are Mode 7. In the first one, you play as Luke in the X-Wing, code name Red-5. You have to destroy twenty TIE Fighters and twenty towers with laser turrets before you can start the trench run.

After that, you start the Death Star Trench Run. If you hear the words "Stay On Target!," then you've hit a wall or the floor. Don't do that; you'll take damage.

The trick to making it through the stage is to shoot down the TIE Fighters' firepower. If you can keep doing that, you'll be able to have plenty of shields for the fight against the TIE Interceptor (the big TIE Fighter that tries to shoot you down and blocks your view). When you shoot the crap out of that, you'll be ready to launch your torpedoes. When you hear the lock-on sound repeat very quickly, press one of the shoulder buttons to activate the proton torpedoes. You'll get the cut scene, the Death Star explosion, the ending and the credits if you do it at the right time. If you miss, you'll be kicked back to the previous stage and you'll have to start it all over again.

"Great shot, kid! That was one in a million!"

"If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can imagine."

The Tractor Beam Core is the last side-scrolling level in the game. Ironically, it's all vertical.

The laser turrets at the sides of the elevators at the center of the screen can be shot down. If you have a thermal detonator, that's even better.

The elevators only go so high before they start dropping down. You'll have to hang out at the sides before the next one shows up, and the sides are also littered with Imperial Stormtroopers ready to snipe at you at a moment's notice.

The boss is the Tractor Beam. Shoot at the core that lets out red orbs that fly towards you. The red orbs can be shot down before they split into four smaller parts which are harder to avoid. If you shoot at any red orbs that come your way, though, you won't have to worry about avoid a lot of those things.

The best way to avoid a lot of damage is to stand on one of the top platforms and keep firing at the tractor beam core. The tractor beam will eventually be forcefully deactivated, and hopefully you can stand the slowdown.

...and now we're finally in the Death Star!

When possible, stay on top every time, and use your super-jumps to stay on the platform. Han has the best super-jump of the three, since it's pretty high and he also isn't as big as Chewie. You'll be rushed at by TIE Fighters with little warning, so stay as high as you can at all times. They usually appear at certain points in the stage where platforms usually are, so don't worry about not being high enough on the screen to be able to dodge them.

The robots with the spider legs always carry the large health pick-ups for some reason. I can never understand why, especially when you're not losing that much health if you're careful.

As you progress, you'll see Imperial Stormtroopers fall down from the top of the sky. (Why the hell did I type that? I meant 'screen.') Don't let them push you into the pits!

When the platforms come back, the TIE Fighters will fly at you in bigger numbers, keep going right when you super-jump and most of the time you'll unintentionally jump over most of them if you're good enough. This may take a couple of tries before you get it down to a science. One of the platforms will have a 1-Up which you have to be quick to grab before it shakes itself out of existence.

The boss of this stage is the Imperial Defense Droid. This part automatically scrolls a bit when you first see it so that the platforms are pushed out of the way. When it extends its arm, duck to avoid damage. When it opens up to launch some missiles at you, shoot it. You'll definitely need your gun for this one if you want to survive.

In the next stage, you finally get to rescue Princess Leia from the clutches of Darth Vader...if you make it in one piece, of course.

The laser turrets on the walls that shoot at you can be destroyed. Thanks for asking. Also, there are crushing ceilings that kill you instantly if they hit you.

When you're in the vertical shafts with the platforms, robots will pop out of the openings in the walls. Keep a lookout and destroy them when you see them.

The boss here is the Detention Guard Boss. When the bottom opens up, shoot it down. Imperial Stormtroopers will also pop out of it in pairs, and they can give you health if you need it. It'll split into a smaller size when the life gauge runs down, but it'll go down in a few Plasma shots.

You've rescued Princess Leia Organa! Enjoy your cut scene!

lukenuetzmann plays Super Star Wars - Part 5 of 8

I don't remember Jabba the Hutt having this many hired hands...!

The next stage has more than one boss, and you'll need all the health that you can. Stay on the high road during the stage, and don't let the flying enemies get to you. Thankfully, those things can be destroyed with one hit if you have a strong enough gun. Be careful about the guys who pop out of the windows to shoot at you, too.

The first boss is the maintenance droid, and it has three health bars. If you have the Plasma gun, he's easy pickings. If you're low on life, it drops two large health pick-ups that you'll desperately need.

When you enter the hangar, keep on rolling/sliding/whatever. That will help you avoid many of the enemies and keep you from losing a lot of health. There's a trap after the fourth and last downward slope, so be ready to jump when you reach the bottom to avoid an electrical trap.

There are laser turrets that can easily be shot down, as well as small droids that you should run away from when you blow their upper bodies off. There are also flashing squares that act as proximity mines that explode upon your touch and cause damage. The trick to dealing with these is to shoot them, causing them to explode from far away, helping you to dodge the resulting debris as well. The globes that shoot out the electrical beams from both the ground and ceiling are indestructible, as far as I know.

The second boss is the Hover Combat Carrier. Roll under it and stay under it, then shoot the underside down first. Center yourself so you don't get hit by the rocket boosters, which you'll also want to shoot down. Then shoot upwards and take out the upper turrets. Once all five parts are shot down, the Hover Combat Carrier can be shot down very easily. They won't even be able to damage you unless you jump into the air, which just makes it even more hilarious.

lukenuetzmann plays Super Star Wars - Part 4 of 8

"You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious."

You'll be in the Landspeeder again afterward. Once again, you have to shoot down a bunch of Jawas before you can go to Mos Eisley.

Once you're there, be ready to keep on running and blast the crap out of any Imperial Stormtrooper that you see. If you can find a barrel and stand on it, you can take a ride over some spikes. You'll also find Shields off of some enemies, sometimes with alarming regularity. Always pick them up if you're in this level...you'll need all the health you can get!

Be sure to shoot the blocks and crates to find blaster power-ups, health pick-ups and thermal detonators to wipe out any Stormtroopers on the screen. When you see Chewie, the stage is over, and you'll end up in the Catina with Chewie in tow for the rest of the game. Chewie has a longer life bar than Luke, so use him for the Cantina if you can't get past him with Luke. If you pick up enough Health Swords with him, his health bar can span across half the screen!

There are two colors of guys in robes that pop out from the background at you - the blue ones and the red ones. They'll both carry power-ups on them, but the red ones carry the good power-ups, mainly the large health pick-ups.

When you fight the Kalmar Boss Monster, if you have the Plasma power-up for the gun, hold the fire button down and don't let go of it! He'll fall before you do if you have a high amount of health. (Now you know why I told you to pick Chewie!)

Now that you've gotten past the Cantina, you can play as Han Solo anytime for the remainder of the game! He's basically the same as Luke, except he has no lightsaber and he starts out with Flame instead of Blaster. He's also noticeably faster than Chewie, and his slide is a roll! Yay!

There sure are a lot of Sand People around here...

/quagmire

 Well, not really.

To get rid of the spikes in the ceiling, blast them and they'll fall down. This will save you a lot of health through the level. There are a lot of platform in the air that if you were to step on them, they'd fall. And you have to hold Up on the Control Pad to super jump at times, which is kind of a real pain and the only flaw I've found in the controls. Every other time it's fine, but it's really annoying when you do the two auto-scrolling platform jumping sections.

The first one is really easy and really brief. The second one, however, can be pure torture unless you're prepared. You'll have to constantly use the shoulder buttons to look down, especially at the end of the second section, and you'll have to traverse from one platform to another while shooting upwards at those flying creatures from the first level, who inconveniently enough rear their ugly heads again in this part of the level. And unless you look down, you'll miss the third to last platform.

You'll meet Obi-Wan Kenobi and get the lightsaber. If you equip it and do a super jump, you'll spin around with the lightsaber in front of you, cutting down anything in your way. As you make your way through the Land of the Banthas, shoot the Banthas down with the gun if you have the Plasma power-up. It'll cut through them in seconds.

When you're fighting the Giant Womprat, just keep your distance and keep shooting it with the gun. When you've knocked it off-screen, wait until it charges back towards you and start shooting when it's about to reach the center of the screen. That way, you won't have to worry about any of his attacks.

If you want to use the lightsaber (which does more damage on it), keep your distance and keep using the super-jump to minimize any damage you might take. It's faster, but it is much more riskier than using the gun, so pick your poison.

Since when did Luke actually go into the Sandcrawler? LOL @ movie-to-game transitions.

The second level is a journey to the top of the Jawa Sandcrawler. The debris from when you destroy any enemies made out of metal can hurt you, so be careful.

You'll have to time your jumps from one platform to the next, and if you mess up, it's a long way down. There are flamethrowers and laser turrets throughout the side of the Sandcrawler, which I don't think was ever that well-armed. When you make it to the top, you still have to deal with the turrets, which can do hellacious damage with their weapons. Get the hidden health-power up at the left edge if you need it, then make your way to the right and (actually) jump into the hole that the arrow points towards. Congrats, you're actually inside the Sandcrawler.

The path is straightforward from here. You'll have to slide at the correct time to get past the laser barriers so that they don't go off (there's a certain distance you have to stand away from it), and if you touch the lava you will die. You then fight the Lava Beast Jawenko. You'll have to constantly jump around and reposition yourself to keep from falling into the lava, and you'll still have to do that afterward when you jump your way to R2-D2 if you don't want your progress disrupted.

Episode IV: A New Hope

Seriously, that's the only thing I can think for the name to this. But then again, how else does the original trilogy begin?

Ah, yes, another game that I remember playing when I was a kid. In case you're wondering what difficulty this is on, it's Brave (the normal difficulty).

The game begins with Luke Skywalker already in the middle of Tatooine looking for Ben...I guess. I don't remember Luke fighting weird flying bat-things and red man-sized scorpions in the movie, either, but whatever.

Believe it or not, when you reach the part where the Womprats start leaping out of the background, don't continue forward. Instead, just keep blasting Womprats until two large health power-ups and a Weapon Power-Up appear. That way, when you pick up the one that you find after the Womprats disappear, you'll have Seekers.

Then you see the Sarlacc, which didn't appear in the series until Return of the Jedi. After fighting that, you find C3PO (which is weird, since Luke meets him and R2-D2 at the same time, and not in the open desert). Then you're in the landspeeder destroying Jawas and Womprats in Mode 7. You have to kill a certain amount of Jawas in order to advance to the Jawa Sandcrawler (again, LucasArts takes liberties with the storyline, but it's all in good fun).
