Kikoskia plays Wario Blast! featuring Bomberman - Part 8 of 8

Finally! Let's finish this!

Level 8

(continued)

0:05 - That was quick. And fail.

0:10 - Get bent.

0:16 - Trapped yet again. This round requires a lot of patience if you want to do something like this.

0:30 - Another speed bag.

0:35 - A rather intricate double kill.

Level 8 Boss

Final Boss time! Yeah!

This guy has three forms and can be particularly nasty at the beginning if you don't know what to do.

First Form

You'll have to hit him when the missile pod door below his head is open. Rush up to him at the very beginning of the fight, use Liner, then get out of the way. When he takes damage, rush him again and do the same thing. Do this three times...and quickly!

Basically, the way this works, you'll take the missile down and hit him right when he launches another one. You'll have to be quick if you want to do this. At least you won't have the rare possibility to deal with a stray missile while he enters his second form.

Kikoskia's strategy involves dropping the bombs in an L pattern and staying out of the way while the missile gets destroyed, while the boss walks into it and fires the missile just before the explosion disappears. It takes a little more time, but it's not as high-risk. He can also fire lasers at you if you're too close.

He will fire lasers at you in this form if you're close enough, making for some cheap deaths. And if you die here, you have to start all the way back at the boss's first form.

Second Form

When he launches his fist at you, hit him with an explosion while they're still flying around. Again, it's another three hits.

At this point, the battle's much easier.

Third Form

It's just his head now.

All you have to do is hit him while he fires those four corner lasers. You can also hit him when he shakes, as it's part of his attack.

Three more hits and you're done! Enjoy the one-screen ending!

Kikoskia plays Wario Blast! featuring Bomberman - Part 7 of 8

The guiding arrows are back? Joy.

Level 7

(continued)

0:16 - He won't get out of that.

0:31 - Neither will he.

0:55 - Suicide'd!

1:05 - Suicide'd! Again!

1:26 - Trounce'd!

1:30 - Trounce'd! Again!

1:33 - Another draw.

1:46 - Close enough.

1:53 - I kick your bomb! Now I keel you!

2:08 - This "no bomb" curse isn't really working out for these guys.

2:25 - Another Trouncing.

2:30 - Well, that's nice.

2:43 - This'll fix 'im.

2:46 - Kikoskia comes this close to a Game Over.

3:06 - Enjoy your bomb.

3:12 - Finally!

Level 7 Boss

Get close enough to him so he spins his sword, as this is when you want to attack hi. If he tosses it at you, he's still vulnerable.

Despite taking about eight or nine hits, he's still pretty easy.

Level 8

No items. Before you say "WUT," remeber that you can already throw down with four far-reaching bombs at the very start of the level. Go for it!

4:57 - Trap'd!

5:12 - In record time.

5:37 - Dead again.

6:03 - Some action that ends in "'d!"

6:27 - Even in the last level, the AI isn't very smart. It just...isn't.

6:36 - Well, he's gone.

6:56 - Suiide Bomberman. He kills himself and Kikoskia with Liner.

7:11 - Wrong place, wrong time.

7:29 - A last-second double kill! The first one couldn't escape, while the second just waltzed right into it.

7:48 - Game over, man!

8:10 - Sorry, you lose.

8:17 - He got lucky against that bomb blast, but not this time.

8:22 - ...and there's the first of two.

8:37 - The suicides just keep on coming!

8:39 - Plus, we tackle this guy at the same time! Score!

8:41 - Then it becomes a draw in four seconds flat. Oh, dear god, what just happened.

8:51 - He walked right into this one.

9:00 - Corner'd!

9:09 - DERP

9:26 - So much for that. Now we have to start over. Again.

Kikoskia plays Wario Blast! featuring Bomberman - Part 6 of 8

Motorcycles. On ice. How does this make sense.

Level 6

(continued)

0:26 - o hay it came back

0:27 - Even though Wario was added during the game's move to Stateside, the power-ups work well for him. Just thought I'd say that.

0:45 - A Bomberman suicides off-screen.

0:48 - Another tackle death.

1:13 - ...and again...

1:27 - A draw!

1:50 - That didn't work. Sorry.

1:56 - Neither did that.

2:20 - He only gets one of them with Trouncer. You got lucky this time, other Bomberman!

2:27 - I like this attack. I perform it all the time myself.

2:40 - It never fails.

2:56 - Why would you

What

3:07 - Dammit!

3:22 - It's Level 6, and you guys still kill yourselves?

3:28 - Killed him with motion. That's incredible.

Level 6 Boss

Hit the boss twice with your bombs, then get away! He'll blow up like a bomb before he re-inflates his body. When he's trying to re-inflate, nail him before he gets back up.

Don't forget, he speeds up after he inflates again, so speed up yourself, too.

Level 7

Short fuses again. Also, awesome music.

Also, there's a hidden Easter egg in this world, but I've never seen it.

7:19 - Why would you do that? Seriously, why?

7:49 - Finally. One dead Bomberman.

8:24 - One more death until the next blog...

Kikoskia plays Wario Blast! featuring Bomberman - Part 5 of 8

I swear, the Level 4 boss is hard. But the best is yet to come!

Level 4

(continued)

Beating the Level 4 boss givs you Liner. Double-tapping the A button will drop a line of bombs. The more extra bomb power-ups you collect, the better this works.

Level 5

The vents shoot gas that paralyzes you (much like the Trouncer ability) when hit with a bomb blast. Watch out!

2:40 - we got 'im we got 'im weFFFFFUUUUU

2:55 - Finally.

3:34 - pwned, n00b.

3:50 - The vent gases in action.

4:16 - After two near-hits, he finally gets this one.

4:24 - Another Trouncer death.

4:41 - Watch the upper-right hand corner for extreme fail.

5:02 - Try kicking the bomb now! I dare you!

5:27 - Another Bomberman blows himself up.

5:41 - Trounce'd.

5:49 - Not-a even a curse will-a stop-a Wario!

6:13 - Why would you

What

6:14 - Blown up with one of his own bombs. Tragic.

6:22 - Well, that didn't take long.

Level 5 Boss

Level 5's Boss is a guy in a thundercloud.

Same strategy as before, but he's a tad easier.

Beating him gives you Moto. You'll now be on a motorcycle, and you can jump over a single non-destroyable block just by riding into it.

Level 6

Not only is the floor slippery, the destroyable ice blocks regenerate. Welcome to the frozen north.

8:45 - After Trouncing this Bomberman, it's bombs away with an inescapable trap.

Well, I wanted to cover Bomberman GB...

Until I found out it was the exact same game as Wario Blast.

Anyway, do you guys like the 16-bit bomb blast? I sure do. Only makes that sound when you play it on either incarnation of Super Game Boy, though.

Kikoskia plays Wario Blast! featuring Bomberman - Part 4 of 8

In this installment, we set fire to a teddy bear before running for our lives from our own ammunition. Could this get any better?

Level 3

(continued)

0:36 - Kikoskia pulls a fast one.

0:40 - That was talented...and it was also epic fail.

1:07 - One of the Bombermen grabs the extra bomb. Big mistake.

1:12 - Once again, the lame AI fails to disappoint.

1:19 - More severe ownage.

1:54 - An AIDS joke. I thought my blog would never have one. Hell, yes. Play until 2:23 for best results.

2:05 - After apologizing for the AIDS joke (and then wishing it on someone anyway), there's no apologizing for a dead Bomberman.

2:15 - Double kill!

Level 3 Boss

Once again, grab all the power-ups you can find and blow him up while his mouth is open from his attack. Yeah, that strategy again.

he stands there for a few seconds before he attacks, so bear this in mind. (HURR!)

When you beat him, you'll get The Trouncer. You'll be able to knock enemies into a wall and stun them when you dash into them. Perfect for planting a bomb right on them and setting them up for a trap they won't get out of!

Level 4

Warp holes return, and this time bombs blow up about two seconds after you plant them.

4:32 - Well...that was easy.

4:52 - Laying the bomb at the right time + grabbing the explosion extension at the last second = perfect timing.

5:27 - Fail.

5:35 - ...and Kikoskia's speed bag game runs like crazy yet again.

5:41 - Kikoskia posts a disclaimer about the plumbing industry.

6:07 - Yeah, let's all kill our own allies. Again.

6:10 - Epic fail.

6:22 - Once again, for warp holes set up like in the third round of Level 2. This will prove interesting.

6:40 - The first Trouncer kill. It was bound to happen.

6:54 - Failboat! All aboard!

7:01 - You just had to pick up the skull, didn't you?

7:46 - DAT SPEED BAG

7:50 - He could do this all day!

7:57 - This time, range wins out.

Level 4 Boss

Same strategy, but this time it's even tougher due to the enemy's attack variation and the short fuses. You'll (obviously) have to hit it when it's smiling, but that'll take some speed...and skill!

If you fail to damage it during its attack, you'll have to destroy all the leaves and then go for the kill again. Time is definitely a factor if you're in this predicament, which is all the time unless you really know what you're doing.

Kikoskia plays Wario Blast! featuring Bomberman - Part 3 of 8

You can see almost the entire stage! WAT

Level 2 (continued)

0:45 - This Bomberman got got with a chain reaction...

1:01 - ...while this one manuevers himself into an unintentional trap.

1:26 - Owned.

1:54 - Double kill!

2:06 - I'm not even going to ask why the CPU thought this was a good idea.

Level 2 Boss

This one's a tad trickier. Here you have to time your explosions so that it hits the spinning top while its projectile attack is sill out. Grab as many power-ups as you can, then go for it. Your kick ability will probably come in handy here.

Beating him will give you Dashin'. Hold B, then move. You'll be able to run faster now.

Level 3

Bomb-guiding blocks on the floor will make this faster and more intense tahn earlier. Kick a bomb towards one, and the block will guide it in the direction the arrow on it indicates.

5:31 - The enemies can kick bombs away? Bollocks!

6:02 - Kikoskia uses himself as a human shield to slow down this Bomberman who gets severely pwned.

7:00 - Gridlock'd.

7:31 - Bomberman FFFFFUUUUU

8:01 - A near draw.

8:05 - Another Bomberman gets trapped.

Kikoskia plays Wario Blast! featuring Bomberman - Part 2 of 8

In Level 2, we deal with warp holes that whip us and our enemies through a warehouse.

Level 2

1:01 - Why would you

What

1:18 - This is probably the only thing I like about this level. If your timing is impeccable, you can blow someone up as soon as they come out of a warp.

2:02 - Once again, the AI leaves something to be desired.

2:16 - In Round 2, the teleporters are placed in a non-linear fashion. Once again, the direction you (or your enemies) enter the warp is key...

2:36 - ...and this is exactly what I'm talking about. Entering the Warp Hole in the upper-right from the left takes you here no matter what...and in this case it led this Bomberman into a trap.

3:28 - Shut the front door. You can't be serious.

5:16 - After a lot of frustration, Kikoskia walks straight into a trap.

6:12 - And again...

7:13 - After continuing, we finally see an off-screen kill.

7:44 - About time.

8:27 - A Bomberman unintentionally sets himself up for death.

8:50 - Finally, it's on to Round 3.

Kikoskia plays Wario Blast! featuring Bomberman - Part 1 of 8

Umm...it's made in 1994 for Super Game Boy...

Anyway, this is a rather interesting game in the series. Hudson Soft developed it, but Nintendo horned in when it came time to release it on American shores, hence why Wario is in it. It's not bad, though, and if you have the Super Game Boy and the Super Nintendo Multi-Tap, you could do multi-player (while having more than one person to enjoy the improved explosion sounds with).

Not surprisingly, a couple of years later, Hudson Soft and Nintendo would buddy up again...and give us Mario Party. Go figure. The Random Hoo Haas section of FlyingOmelette.com pretty much covers all the differences between the game and its original Japanese counterpart, Bomberman GB. Check it out, it's pretty informative.

Each level is a best of three, and you must defeat all the enemies to move on. THere are three rounds in each level, and as you go further in, the playing field gets smaller. After three stages, you fight a boss before proceeding to the next level. You can play as Wario or Bomberman, fighting the character you didn't pick throughout the game.

The levels are always the same, but the blocks you must blow up are randomly generated. At the end of the first five levels, you get an ability.

Level 1

Nothing unusual here. This is as normal as you're going to get. Until you get abilities, you won't be able to do very much.

The power-ups through the stages are simple. The fireballs with the smiley faces increase your explosion radius, the bombs let you drop more bombs, while the skulls basically curse you, doing anything from keeping you from dropping bombs, nullifying your explosion extensions, or keeping you from using one of your abilities. You can increase both your explosion radius and the number of bombs you can drop up to four times.

The power-ups also double as walls, in a way - if a bomb blows them up, they not only take power-ups with them, they stop the blast radius from extending past where they stand.
2:19 - The first kill of the game.
2:28 - Please don't imitate Wario ever again.
2:41 - Why do Bomberman's clones always look different? And why are they unplayable?
3:01 - One of the Bombermen kills himself in a rather Rube Goldberg-esque sort of way...or as close as the game will ever get to it.
3:08 - Fail.
4:12 - Epic Fail!
4:20 - LOL British insults
4:53 - Double kill.
6:42 - That wasn't very bright.
7:09 - Neither was that.
7:30 - It's not often you get to do this.
7:42 - Bomberman Megazord, activate!

Level 1 Boss

The boss is simple enough. Just hit him dead center with your explosions three times. It gets harder later on, though. Just avoid the three spinning enemies it shoots out, as well as is spit attack (which only goes straight down).

Beat him to get the Kicks ability. You'll be able to kick a bomb by moving into it. The B button halts the kicked bomb.
