PrinceWatercress plays The Adventures of Star Saver - The Longplay

Enjoy!

PrinceWatercress plays The Adventures of Star Saver - Part 5 of 5

We are now inside the alien mothership! It's time to free our sister and get back to Earth!

Stage 9

Throughout the level, you'll have to jump from one platform to another. Watch what is going on and jump carefully.

Run under the crushers before they reach the center of the screen. As for the two "pincer" platforms, there is a P block that will let you get your mech back in case you can't jump through cleanly. Afterwards, jump on each flashing piece of the floor to remove the barrier, then shoot downt he notes and pass straight through. You'll end up getting some sort of egg afterwards.

Shortly after this, you'll rescue your sister. You'll both enter a machine that you have to use the A button in conjunction with Left and Right on the Control Pad to control. Shoot down any enemies that get in your way, and watch where you jump and land as you do. There may be enemies that come at you from the left side of the screen, but you can easily avoid them and their projectiles to get to the exit. You just beat The Adventures of Star Saver!

PrinceWatercress plays The Adventures of Star Saver - Part 4 of 5

We're near the end of our quest, and our adventure sees hidden exits, flashing tiles to shoot and some more bosses.

Stage 7

Jump on the two flashing pillars at the start; first the right one five times, then the left one five times. This extends the bridge.

Jump on the flashing platform three times, then shoot the flashing tile above and to the right to make another platform. Jump on the flashing platform a few more times to reach the other platform.

You'll see a flashing tile soon afterwards. Jump on it until a platform shows up, then jump on the platform until the door to the right opens. Go to where the door was and keep jumping until platforms show up. Jump on the platforms to find another bonus area. Shoot the circular blocks and stand on the lion's back when you are able to in order to warp to the end.

Shoot the flashing tile to the right, then jump on the flashing platform that is ahead to move it upwards. Be ready to shoot enemies on the way up to the goal. There will be a hidden P block that you can shoot to reveal if you need to. There will be some enemies near the top, so make short hops as you make your way to the exit.

But what if you didn't take the shortcut to the end? Leap on the flashing tile ahead once to open up a platform, then go past the dog and you'll face the boss...or do you?

If you don't want to fight the boss, you can drop down to the lower part and shoot the wall to the right in just the right spot to get an instant exit.

If you do want to fight the boss, here's what you do. Make your way to the right when the screen goes dark, then shoot at the boss's tentacles. From here, run all the way tot he other side of the screen and keep shooting. Rinse and repeat until you beat the boss. Simple enough.

Stage 8

Shooting at the floating mines will eventually get rid of all of them for a ton of points.

The tentacle-like corals will stun you if you touch them.

Be sure to get the spinning triangle soon after the start; you'll need it to avoid as many enemies as possible afterwards.

You'll eventually come across a platform on the water that will move when jump on i. The stationary rafts will sink under your weight. Shoot the robot Nessie in the head to use it as a platform, then continue to the right to face the boss.

The boss is a robot gorilla that throws bolts. Run to the right, stop as soon as you see him, then run left to avoid the bolts and shoot the boss in the torso when it comes to a complete stop while moving back and forth. Be careful not to get hit by the falling stones on the tree on the way to the goal. You can get through without getting hit if you move very slowly at the tree.

PrinceWatercress plays The Adventures of Star Saver - Part 3 of 5

Our weird adventure continues as we fight a radio, avoid getting shocked and cross a river.

Stage 5

The weirdest new enemy here is the radio. Should you approach it, it will shoot out notes that you can shoot down for a bunch of points.

For the bridge, pay attention to the underside. If you can see dots on the underside, that part of the bridge is safe; otherwise, that part will turn into a moving platform.

The electric currents on the wire bridge will stun you.

At the wall with the two flashing parts near the boss, shoot or run into the flashing tile on the right to warp later into the level. If you ride the platform into the floor, you'll end up in the "square." Shoot the flashing tile to the left three times, and you'll get a shortcut out of the level.

If you move past that, you'll come across a ship. Jump on the smokestack three times to enter another bonus area. Leap on all the flashing tiles, then jump onto the lion's back to teleport to the boss.

The boss here is a monster in a snail shell. Jump over the shell and shoot at the head as it pops in and out after the boss reaches the side of the screen. That's it. Just jump over the boss and shoot the head when it is exposed. That's all.

Stage 6

Be careful at the beginning so you don't get hit by the fish that pop out of the water below.

The tree branches with the darker outline will fall down under your weight.

When you reach the robot Nessie, shoot the head until it freezes so you can stand on the head and use it as a platform.

The fish at the third Nessie gives you platforms if you destroy it.

The boss is some sort of bird monster. Shoot down the eggs when they grow legs and move around, and shoot at the boss when it moves up and down on the right side of the screen.

Looking back on what I've written, the bosses in this game have simple yet interesting patterns. Despite that, playing this game wasn't that bad.

Stage 3

The circular things at the top of the tree at the start will drop if you come close enough. They can also do damage.

You can enter the caves and teleport further into the stage by standing in front of one and pressing Down. (Thanks: One Credit Classics)

If you stay at the top throughout the level and go fast, you won't have to deal with much, including the debris that falls from the top, the owl enemies and the tentacles that will stun you as long as you keep getting lion's head and spinning triangles.

When you finally have to take the bottom path, run to the right and jump over the tentacles, leap twice on the flashing platforms, then shoot the flashing part of the barrier.

The boss is some sort of insect droid that hands on the ceiling. Shoot it in the part connected to the wire connected to the ceiling, make sure it is not above you when it drops, and jump over the claws when they are shot at you.

Stage 4

The blocks with the "bird" pattern on them can be shot down in order to get them out of your way.

The platform in the bottomless pit acts as a raft. Keep facing right and keep firing to take out any fish that leap out of the water, but be prepared for any that leap out from the left. The first one that does will provide a bunch of platforms that help you across the bottomless pit. Keep in mind that there will be slow down.

The boss here is a giant fish. Avoid the fish that it shoots, then shoot at the head when the fish robot pokes its head out and opens its mouth. As you go through the battle, you'll notice a pattern in how the fish moves and fires smaller fish, and with enough practice, you'll know when to switch positions and when to shoot this boss. This battle can be a bit of a long one, especially if you get hit and lose the mech, but it's still beatable.

When the boss dies, you'll get a platform that takes you to the goal.

The Earth: under attack. Your sister: kidnapped. You: trapped on another planet with a mech that wants to help you fight back. Welcome to the adventures of Star Saver.

Stage 1

Left and Right let you move left and right, A lets you jump and B lets you shoot. Holding B allows you to run, and you can break into a run even in mid-air.

A and B simultaneously let you use a grappling hook that lets you grapple to certain things and pull you up, but you're better off using them for when you fall into bottomless pits, as you will automatically save yourself with the grappling hook when that happens. The grappling hook has a limited amount of uses, but if you collect bow and arrow icons, you can get more.

The tumbling triangles give you temporary invincibility when collected.

The P icon lets you regain the space mech if you get hit. When you get hit, you get knocked out of the mech and play as Max, the main protagonist. He's not any slower, but he doesn't have the fast rate of fire that the mech has and can only have one bullet on the screen at a time. If Max gets hit, he dies and you'll lose a life.

Be careful when shooting enemies; some split into two or three when shot.

The lion head also gives you temporary invincibility. Some of them show up on their own, but others are procured by defeating certain enemies.

The bouncing four-point star enemy gives you two power-ups when shot: the gun icon and the feather icon. The gun icon gives you a three-way shot if you are in the mech; the feather icon allows you to glide forward by double-tapping A.

Watch out for the fireballs and flame jets; they are indestructible. The fireballs hurt, while the flame jets just stun you for a few seconds.

The dog enemy chases you around, and cannot easily be destroyed. This is the first of a few wacky "Japanese" enemies in the game.

The boss here is a thing that looks like a cloud with tentacles. Keep your distance when shooting it so you don't get crushed, and remember that bosses are invincible for a few seconds after being shot. When you beat the boss, continue to keep your distance to take out the enemies, who will shoot crosses at you that will stun you. (This is the only boss in the game that does something like this.)

The square that looks like a monitor is the goal. Jump into it to go to the next stage.

Stage 2

At the start, there will be two building tops that are flashing. By jumping on these flashing areas three times, you will open up a bridge that lets you get over the bottomless pit at the start. Jump on the right one first, followed by the left. This won't be the last time you'll see something like this.

For the part after the dog, stand on the flashing floor tile, then shoot at the flashing tile on the wall to get rid of both barriers.

The musical notes stun you. Be ready to shoot them down quickly, them rush to the right. The tilde-shaped energy waves also stun you, but if you wait for them to disappear, you can pass by without having to deal with them.

Some of the platforms move when you jump onto them. Watch where they go before making a move. There are two sets of small platforms, and on the second set, jump on the second one three times. This reveals some hidden platforms, with the last one taking you to a bonus game. Shoot down all the blocks and jump on the back of the lion that you uncover. The lion will roar and you will be warped to the end of the level, where you can get the mech back.

The boss is a jumping triceratops robot. Stay away from him, and when it opens its eyes, shoot at the face, but also make it a priority to run under it to get to the other side of the screen. After a while, you'll eventually beat the boss. Do some careful platforming to get to the monitor and end the stage.

When you beat a stage, you'll get the mech at the start of the next one if you're playing as Max instead of the mech.
