PrinceWatercress plays The Grinch (PS1) - Part 2 of 22

Downtown Whoville is pretty small, but there's quite a bit to do.

The first of the four teleportation tubes will be light and dark grey, and will take you to Downtown Whoville. Press Triangle when you're under the tube to enter the level. This is the first, and right now, only level that you can access for now until you can get some tasks done.

Your missions for Downtown Whoville are shuffling the mail five times, smashing ten snowmen, painting ten posters of The Mayor, launching eggs into ten houses, advancing the countdown-to-Christmas clock, and squashing all 500 gifts. You also have four special items to find that you'll use in certain parts of the level.

If you need to return to Mount Crumpit, return back to where you started, stand underneath the teleportation tube and press Triangle.

Be on the lookout for the citizens of Whoville. The kids in the light green jackets will hug you if they grab you, and they will fill up the health meter. Waggle the D-Pad left and right to break free if they grab on, and stay away from them. To refill health, you'll have to smash giftboxes, which is one of the weirdest things about the game. This can make things a little harder later on. There will be other kids who will throw snowballs at you, and others still will just run away from you if you approach.

If you see any gifts, jump on or pancake them to break them. Some of them will have to be pancaked in order to be broken, especially if they are worth five or ten giftboxes. Different colors are worth different values, much like the gems in the Spyro series.

The rotten egg plants will give you ammo for your various gadgets. You can carry up to 200. Rotten egg plants will eventually re-grow, and depending on how grown it looks, you can get anywhere from one to three to five units of ammunition. Make it a habit to collect any you see to fill up your ammo, as you're going to need them later.

To destroy the snowmen, jump on them. You may have to pancake them to ensure accuracy.

You'll need the paint and the paint bucket to vandalize the posters of The Mayor.

The blue pieces of paper are blueprints. Collect them in order to unlock gadgets at the game's main hub in Mount Crumpit.

You can pancake the gifts underneath the music-playing from the side if your timing is right. There is another way to smash them, but we don't have it yet.

You can jump into ledges to grab them. Press Up on the D-Pad to pull yourself up.

There is a tutorial on the poles. Jump into them, then hold Square to spin. Depending on where your feet are in front of you when you jump, you'll either do a high jump or a long jump. Your feet will have to be slightly lower than your body to do the long jump, and if they're slightly higher, you'll do the high jump. It can be hard to differentiate between the two, and it can be frustrating. If you need to turn around on a pole, hold Square and press Triangle while at the top of the pole to turn around.

The poles will be used to get to the two planks ahead, and there will be a guy jumping around. Pancake the opposite end of where the guy is to launch him into the stratosphere and get the paint and paint bucket. With this, you can vandalize the posters of The Mayor by standing in front of one and pressing Triangle.

There are gift boxes in the air that you won't be able to get to right now. You'll be able to destroy them eventually.

There are police officers, especially one near the post office. Some of them will be asleep at their posts, and you can hold Triangle and move to tiptoe past them without alerting them. The one near the post office gives you the hint of "If only you could not be recognized..." Remember that for later. If any of them see you, or if they are awakened, they will shoot you with an ice blast. You'll have to waggle the D-Pad left and forth to break out before you lose a ton of health.

You'll eventually find the front door for City Hall, where a ceremony will be held. You'll need to find a way to advance the clock at the top of the building to 8 PM to open up the doors.

If any hummingbirds approach you, use your bad breath to kill them.

You'll find the Who Cloak if you sneak into the Countdown-To-Christmas tower. You'll need this to get into the post office. To put on the Who Cloak, you'll need to find one of the phone boxes in town, walk into it and press Triangle to switch between your normal Grinchy self and your disguise.
