If you're wondering how I caused that glitch regarding the computer, it was because I wasn't standing in a neutral position when I pressed Triangle in front of the computer lever. I figured this out right after it happened, and this kept that glitch from rearing its ugly head again for the rest of the Let's Play.
In order to don the Who Cloak, you must find a red phone booth, press Triangle to open the door, then go in and press Triangle again to switch between your normal Grinchy self and the Who Cloak. While in disguise, nobody will mess with you...not even the police officer near the post office. You won't be able to open the door to the Whoville post office and enter it without wearing the Who Cloak, so you're going to need it to do what we need to do here.
If you go straight forward from where you enter, you'll see Cindy Lou Who (at least, I believe that's her; she's never named). She will follow you around wondering who you are, but that's about it.
Instead, you need to run around the perimeter of the post office while avoiding the red spotlights of the security cameras. If you get caught by one, you'll be booted back to the entrance, but you'll be free to move around again and do whatever you want afterwards. Just wait for the lights to turn off as the security cameras move around before moving forwards.
As you circle the perimeter of the post office, you'll notice that different doors to different mailrooms have a different color light surrounding them. Keep the lights in mind for the doors that you want. 1 is purple, 2 is orange, 3 is cyan, 4 is yellow and 5 is gray. You'll need to enter and shuffle the mail in the first four mailrooms to unlock the fifth mailroom.
You'll also see air vents. The Grinch cannot enter these, but Max can, so press Select to switch to him and then move into the air vent. Before you do that though, you'll want The Grinch next to the door that you want to unlock. Once you have The Grinch in place, have Max enter the air vent. You'll then enter a maze Look for the number and color for the door that you want, then follow the color and enter the air vent exit that you see. The red button in the mailroom will open the nearby door, and you'll have ten seconds to get the Grinch into the mailroom. If you don't, then you'll have to switch back to The Grinch, switch back to Max - who will reappear next to The Grinch and not where you left him - and then go through the maze all over again and get back to where you were. Thankfully, if you have The Grinch in position and you have an idea of where you are going, this part is a snap. Once The Grinch is in the mailroom, smash the presents in the room, then go up to the cubby full of mail and press Triangle to shuffle the mail. This will complete mart of the "Shuffle the Mail" mission and you'll also keep the mailroom door open, which will make it easier to keep track of where you've been. You'll need to do this five times, one for each mailroom.
The flashing gray heart is a Heart of Stone gives you an extra hit point when collected. There are four of these in all, one in each world in the game.
If you press X as Max, Max will bark. It doesn't serve any purposes gameplay-wise.
After you mess with the first four room, Cindy Lou Who will call for her father, who will come out of Door 5 and leave it open. Inside will be a load of presents as well as the third blueprint for the Rotten Egg Launcher. Shuffle the mail once last time, and you'll see The Grinch scare the little girl on his way out of the power station in a brief cutscene. With all of the mail shuffled and another mission completed, the security system will be out of commission and you'll be free to move around without being sent back to the entrance via trap door. Speaking of the entrance, if you go back there, you'll find the fourth and final blueprint for the Rotten Egg Launcher on your way out.
Now that we've done enough stuff in Downtown Whoville, the Whoforest will be unlocked. The teleportation tube for this level will be a solid dark grey. While we could head back there at Mount Crumpit, we have blueprints to put together like a jigsaw puzzle in order to unlock our first gadget. Press Triangle at the lever in front of the computer to use the computer, then use L1 and R1 to switch to the gadget you want to unlock. Obviously, we want to unlock the Rotten Egg Launcher. Select it, and you'll be able to use the D-Pad to move the red cursor while picking blueprint pieces up with X. When you pick up a blueprint piece, the cursor will turn green. You can move it around with the D-Pad and place it elsewhere with X, and you can rotate it with Square. It wasn't until I started making these blog entries that the logo in the background of the blueprints looks like a "G," and you can use that to your advantage to see if you have everything rotated correctly. Also, the white box with the "G" logo in it should be in the lower-right hand corner with the "G" logo right-side up. If you can keep those two things in mind, you can easily get the blueprints back in order and unlock the gadgets.
The Rotten Egg Launcher lets you shoot rotten eggs at Whos and other things and beings. By holding L1, you can use Up and Down on the D-Pad to switch gadgets. With the Rotten Egg Launcher equipped, you can aim with the first-person view mode when you press R1, which will now show a target reticle in the center of the screen. Circle fires a rotten egg whether you are in first-person view or not.
If you go to the upper level above where the Gadget Computer is, you'll find a few doors that lead to mini-games. You can only open these if you've smashed enough gifts in the game. They serve no purpose other than to have a fun time outside of the main game. There is also a locked door with a keyhole, but it is locked from the inside and you won't be able to see what is behind the door until much later.
Back in Downtown Whoville, you can now fire rotten eggs at the kids who tried to hug you and throw snowballs at you earlier. Hitting them will cause them to drop giftboxes, which you can then smash. The guys who ran away from you will cower in fear if you look at them in first-person view mode with the Rotten Egg Launcher equipped, and you can also shoot them for giftboxes. You won't be able to do anything to the police officers...yet. As for the giftboxes that are airborne, you won't be able to do anything with them with the Rotten Egg Launcher. You're still going to have to wait to get those. The rotten eggs can also be used to break the walls made out of snow, which will uncover more giftboxes.
Beside some of the obvious reasons that you'll need Max for, Max can also be used to scout ahead and look around in certain areas without incident. Enemies will not mess with Max, and neither will any hazards. This is very useful if you want to explore without getting hurt.
