HCBailly plays Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest - Part 4 of 23

One down, three to go.

Flamerus Rex

Strong against: Poison, Paralyze
Weak against: Zombie

The first thing you'll notice is that Tristam's Ninja Stars can't Paralyze or Poison Flamerus Rex.

You can use the Quake spell against him, but the Cure Spell works even better as the game considers Flamerus Rex an undead enemy. Life won't work, so don't even bother trying to insta-kill him.

Long story short: stick to your magic as well as Tristam's Ninja Stars, and keep your party alive!

When you beat him, you'll free the Earth Crystal and Tristam will finally get his treasure...a grappling hook! He'll give you the Elixir. Open the chests, especially the one on the right. The last one will give you the Sand Coin, which you'll need.

Tristam will give you the Elixir after you beat Flamerus Rex, and he'll leave you just before you exit out of the room. You'll definitely cross paths again!

You'll have to backtrack all the way to the beginning, but that's not too hard now that all of the monsters are gone. The conveyor belts of sand make it easier.

Foresta

When you go back to the World Map, you'll notice the forest is green again. Head to Foresta and you'll find the village is back to normal.

Head into Kaeli's house and give Kaeli the Elixir. She'll mention a man in Aquaria named Spencer. This is your next destination, and you'll have to go through the Focus Tower to get there.

But first, a battlefield.

Sand Temple Battlefield 2

This is just more of the same for ten battles. No new enemies here.

When you clean this battlefield out, you get 150 GP.

Focus Tower

You will have to go through this tower manually if you want to go from one part of the land to the next. It's like the elevators in Mass Effect, if you will...and just as annoying.

Whether you take the long way or the secret passage near the beginning, you'll meet the old man on the cloud again. He'll mention Captain Mac as well as a girl named Phoebe before he runs off again.

Once you enter, open the chest to get some more bombs. Remember to come back here when you're low on explosives, as this is the best place to restock.

Walk up to the yellow square with the sword on it. This is a door, and if you picked up the Sand Coin in the Bone Dungeon, you'll open it.

Before you exit the next area, go down and open the chest. You'll get the Fire spell, which will prove useful later.

You'll be back at the World Map when you walk out the door here, and you'll be in the northeast corner of the world. Skip the battlefield for now and head straight to the Libra Temple.

Libra Temple

Go into the temple and you'll meet Phoebe. Talk to her, and you'll find out she's having a tough time saving Aquaria and that Spencer is her grandfather. She'll join your party.

Phoebe is more of a mage character. She'll come equipped with the Cat Claw for physical combat, which can Paralyze, but she also has Cure, Heal, Life, Fire and Thunder. She's got quite a bit of spell charges and a lot of HP...have fun with that. She's also strong against Water, Wind and Silence attacks. (Don't forget to save and reset!)

When you head out, head straight to Aquaria.

Aquaria

You'll find out here that the town is frozen , and that the healing herbs are frozen as well, so the old man at the Inn can't make any Cure Potions.

Phoebe's house is to the left. Go there, and she'll tell you that Spencer is trapped in the tunnel he's dug under the house and can't get out. She'll tell you that the Wakewater is the only hope to unfreeze the town, but first you'll have to go to the Wintry Cave to get the Libra Crest back, so she can warp from the Libra Temple to the Life Temple to get the Wakewater, as the Libra Crest has been stolen by a monster.

The chest here has some Heal Potions, making Phoebe's house in Aquaria the best place in the game to max out on these.

Go further up to find another house. Inside, a woman will give you her Steel Helmet for 200 GP. Buy it, you'll need the extra defense.

If you go downstairs, you'll find another tile similar to what you saw in the Libra Temple, but with a different astrological symbol. Make a note of this for later.

The chest in this house has Refreshers. In case your defense, offense or other stats are decreased by monster attacks in battle, these will nullify the effects. Stock up on these, since you'll never know when you'll need them.
