Jerry Martin plays Strong Bad's Cool Game For Attractive People - Part 1 of 53

Here's one that I did for Try It Out Tuesday a good while back. It's a fine game, but there a good amount of things to do if you want to get maximum rank and do everything that there is to do in all five episodes of this game. Sit back and hang on; this one is gonna be a long one.

Welcome to the five-episode game based on the Homestar Runner series by The Brothers Chaps! Homestar Runner was a big Flash-based cartoon phenomenon back in the 2000's, and I was a fan of it at the time. While it isn't as prolifically worked on as much as it was before, with The Brothers Chaps moving on to other projects and also having families of their own, there's still some new stuff that pops up now and again.

Episode 1: Homestar Ruiner

The game starts with Strong Bad waking up off the basement couch, kicking The Cheat into the washing machine, going through the kitchen and going to the Lappy 486.

Strong Bad reads an e-mail from Eddie M. from Frenchtown, California. Eddie asks Strong Bad why he can't just beat the snot out of Homestar Runner if he hates him so much, and asks him if he is chicken. Strong Bad says he could handle beating the tar, stuffing or into-next-week out of him, then realizes he could head to Coach Z's track to do just that. From here, Coach Z's track is unlocked, and you have control.

If you left-click on the light switches near the door, you'll get the Strong Bad techno song. Be sure to click on it twice. Right-clicking on things will let you examine them.

From here, you can leave Strong Bad's room, head to the main floor (where you can play with the recliner and look in the fridge, among other things) and look at some of the things that are there. Further to the left is the Taranchula Black Metal Detector, which will prove useful later in the game. You'll want to get it right now.

Also nearby is the Videlectrix poster, the 7-track player and what looks like an Atari 2600. Be sure to examine the Videlectric poster until Strong Bad repeats himself. If you click on the Atari 2600 (which is called the FunMachine), you'll be able to play Snake Boxer 5. If you leave the game, Strong Mad will mention the instruction manual, which has the cheat code for the "controversial hidden mode" in the notes. Unfortunately, you'll have to find the pages of the instruction manual throughout the game world.

You can go up to the table and make your own Teen Girl Squad comic. In this mode, the girls go to a basketball game to meet some guys. You won't be able to do everything yet, as Strong Bad made some good idea after "a fried chicken pizza bender" and the ideas have been scattered about the game world.

From here, you can head back to the basement. You can talk to The Cheat and kick him back into the dryer, then click on the dryer to talk to him. (Jerry doesn't do it here, but he does do it later.) There is a Trogdor arcade machine, but you won't be able to play it because Strong Bad hasn't been able to fix the joystick yet and the parts are on back order.

If you haven't looked in the fridge, do it. Strong Bad will notice that only Fluffy Puff mayonnaise is in the fridge and that Strong Sad forgot to buy groceries. If you click it again, Strong Bad will mention that it is so ancient that the expiration date is chiseled on a stone tablet. (Be sure to do both of these things.)

To leave the house, you'll need to head to the main floor and head east to find the front door. From here, you can use the metal detector. The faster the guitar riffs play, the closer you are to a secret. If you can use the metal detector near the cardboard box, you'll find a secret. Since you don't have a shovel yet, Strong Bad will leave a marker to dig there later.
