frenzymatt (Mateus Lopes) beats Wild Guns on Hard - No Deaths - Part 6 of 6

This is it! The final battle!

The Final Fight

First Section

The only enemies here are the giant robot cowboys. Stay at one side so you can pick them off one at a time. You'll be fighting the silver one and the gold one, and (thankfully) the same rules apply.

Second Section

The chaingun tanks from Carson City as well as the chainguns hanging from the ceiling (the scourge of the Ammunition Depot - tell me about it) make a return appearance here.

The robots in the yellow trenchcoats don't take a lot of damage, but they always carry items. Usually, it's a gold bag, but you can also get power-ups from them.

The mini-boss here is that guy again...the one that crawls around like an idiot. You should know what to do by now. He'll have the yellow trenchcoat guys backing him up, but it's still not very hard to kill him off at all.

Third Section

We're not done yet.

You have the rolling guys, the foreground guys...and the tanks from the Ammunition Depot. One last chance to get items!

That thing above the door that looks like a chaingun is a chaingun. When the game lets you shoot at it, stay in the center of the room and keep firing. Do not move. The chaingun bullets will miss you completely, and you'll probably get the V-Gun one last time. The flying machines from the Ammunition Depot back it up, but this is one very easy mini-boss.

Fourth Section

Here it is...the final boss.

There are two cannons at the sides. Even though another one takes its place when you destroy one, that wait in between cannons makes everything a little easier.

The leader of the gang not only shoots balls of fire that erupt into a flame pillar that lasts for a few seconds, he'll roll away to the foreground throwing dynamite along the way before he tries to hit you with his sword. He'll also try to shoot at you as well, and his flunkies area  nuisance.

Stay on the move, pay attention to what's going on, throw the dynamite, knock the man into the background...he is beatable.

When you beat him, whoever lands the final shot says something, then the boss says something. It's random every time, which is pretty neat. You'll then send him flying into the horizon after leaping out of his lair before it explodes.

When you win, you'll get the usual stage clear bonus points, as well as a rank bonus if you hit the high score table as well as 100,000 points for every life you have remaining.

If you beat it on Easy, you go straight to the high score screen. (Lame.) If you beat it on Normal, you see the credits. If you beat it on Hard, however, the screen fades out and you get to see your character relaxing! Congrats!

frenzymatt (Mateus Lopes) beats Wild Guns on Hard - No Deaths - Part 5 of 6

This stage has the most rocking music in the game, save for the final level.

Desolation Canyon

First Section

Oh, boy. With the difficulty on Hard, I'm surprised frenzymatt got through this without using a Bomb.

Guys will pop out of bushes, pop out of the ground and fly around on jetcycles to shoot at you. There are also robots that rise out of the background and fire lassos at you when they open their eye.

The mini-boss here is the same one as the first section of the Ammunition Depot. Throw a lasso, then let him have it. He'll also throw dynamite, so keep that in mind.

Second Section

You are now in a cave in the canyon.

Aside from the rolling guys, there are men in the water that fire missiles into the sky and green robots with chainguns, and the enemies alternative between humans and robots every so often. The robots fire their bullets and fire away, but if you clear them out fast enough, not only will they cease to be a problem, you'll get some really good point bonuses for your score (and hopefully a 1-Up).

The men in the water also leave behind gold bags. The more you can shoot down in this level without getting killed, the better.

The mini-boss here is a gold variation of the green robot. Green robots will spawn behind it unless you throw a lasso at it...speaking of which, the gold robot can throw those too in an attempt to let its green compatriots finish you off. At least the lasso keeps the gold robot from flying around.

Third Section

The boss here is a large tank with a gigantic flamethrower. This flamethrower can sweep the upper half or lower half of the screen, so pay attention to its stream of fire so you can move accordingly. It can also hold the pillar of fire in place for a few seconds to make it harder for you to avoid its missiles, which it also fires on a regular basis.

Shoot at the flamethrower, and watch where and when you dive to avoid being taken out by the flamethrower or the missiles, the latter involving you to stay on the move and use your double jump if possible.

All aboard...the Fail Train!

Armored Train

First Section

You'll be on the same part of the train the entire time; it's the enemies that change each section.

The first section consists of horseback riders, men in dune buggies and guys on hang gliders. These guys are pretty easy if you pick them off as the show up. You'll then be shooting down those push-lever carts (what are those things called? I see them in cartoons all the time) with missile pods and a pair of strongmen pushing the carts along the tracks with their own strength. If you shoot down the strongmen, you'll get 1500 points for your efforts.

This is probably the easiest part of the game hands down; if you can shoot stuff as it comes, you'll have no problem with the beginning of the level.

Second Section

You'll soon see the first train car.

There are a lot of guys on hang gliders shooting at you here, but your main concerns here are the missile launcher and the chaingun on the train car. The chaingun takes a lot of abuse before it will finally go down; so more than likely you'll be taking down the missile launcher first. The hang glider flyers will throw sticks of dynamite, which will definitely help with the chaingun if you don't have the G-Gun.

There are also men that leap onto the train car and inch their way slowly to the center. They'll shoot at you when they get there, and even though it's very much possible to stop them, they take a lot of damage. Again, the dynamite and the G-Gun (if you have it) work well here.

Third Section

This stage is a little longer than the rest.

Another chaingun is here, but this time the enemies are a hell of a lot easier. All you have to deal with are men who throw lassos at you, so destroying the chaingun this time is a far lesser chore.

Fourth Section

Mini-boss time!

There are no enemies here, just the lead car. There are two missile launchers as well as a green light at the back of the car. Destroy the missile launchers, then take out the green light. When it blinks briefly, it's about to shoot lassos. When it turns yellow, it's going to shoot at the ground where you're at from right to left.

Fifth Section

When you destroy the engine, you'll take on a guy on a jetpack. He'll shoot at you a few times before he flies up and comes down right in front of you, charging at you with a knife. Hit him to bring back into the air, or double jump over the charging slash, then go on the attack again. Horseback riders will come in to aid him, and he'll throw dynamite at you three sticks at a time, which you can throw back at him.

You could also luck out and get the V-Gun and take him out easily. That works, too.

Bonus Stage 2

Here, you'll be shooting down boulders as they fall down the mine tracks. You'll also be shooting down barrels that contain gold bags. Both count towards your targets total.

When you see a big boulder, shoot it down to turn it into a small boulder.

The men in the mine carts don't count toward your total, but they do add points to your score.

At the end, you'll get 500 points for every target you shoot down.

Music from Wild Guns

Even though I'm not done with the entire game guide yet, I'm still posting all the music from the game in one shot here. You'll see why...

The only riches you'll get out of the Gold Mine are the bonus points and a bunch of 1-Ups...as well as a really funny case of bad perspective in the first section. You'll see what I'm talking about.

Gold Mine

First Section

The first enemies you'll see are men who slide down the wall above the mine entrance. You can shoot them down easily, but you can also hit them with a stick of dynamite - which makes no sense whatsoever, since they're all the way over there.

The men in the mine carts throw dynamite at you. Some of them will be in the foreground to strike at you. Hope they like the taste of steel.

Blimps will fly in from the side and shoot at you when they reach the center of the screen. A stick of dynamite or the G-Gun works well against them.

The mini-boss is a gold version of the giant robot cowboy from Carson City. The bullets from its guns fan out this time - two to the left, two to the center, two to the right. Other than that, the same rules apply.

Second Section

Now we're in the mine.

The red robots from the Carson City bar rear their ugly heads again, as well as those guys that roll around all over the place.

You'll be facing weirdos on top of mine carts that throw sticks of dynamite at you. If you can somehow shoot one down, they'll drop a red gem worth 5000 points. They're pretty fast, so you'd better be ready to kill one if you have the intent to grab a bunch of items in this stage, since there aren't really very many to collect.

The mini-boss is that machine in the background. Shoot the purple orb at the top, and watch out for the mini-chainguns that hang from the ceiling. The turrets' shots alternate between regular bullets and bullets that home in on you, so take them down as you see them while working on the mini-boss itself. If you need the points at this point, the mini-chainguns will definitely hook you up quite well, and there aren't any other enemies that show up while you fight the mini-boss, which is a plus.

Third Section

The boss here is a giant robot crab. Throw a lasso at the green jewel on its forehead, then shoot at the jewel. After a while, it'll cover its face. Avoid the arms as they hit the ground, and avoid the lassoes that the crab spits from its mouth. It will also shoot bullets from the hole in its head, so watch out for those, too. When it uncovers its face, you can shoot at it again.

If you're wondering what the story is here, the leader of a large gang has killed one of Annie's family members. In turn, Annie hires a bounty hunter named Clint to help her.

Vengeance burns eternal.

Ammunition Depot

The next four stages can be played in order, but here we'll cover the Ammunition Depot.

First Section

The enemies here are like the ones you've seen in the first section of Carson City. The big hazard here is the chaingun near the right side of the area, which you should take out as soon as possible. Stay on the move and you'll be fine.

The mini-boss here is a guy in a green trenchcoat. He'll stand there and fire twice before running around and shooting the ground as he goes. The lasso works well here. When he dies, he explodes. He was another robot the entire time. He'll also have guys walking on the foreground in front of you, but they're just slight annoyances.

Second Section

The foreground guys are here again (they'll pop up in every section of the game), but you'll also be shooting at tanks, men with full-body shields and flying machines. The tanks shoot rockets, but the rocket launchers fall after a couple of shots. If you destroy them completely, you can get gold bags and bombs. The men with the shields are only vulnerable when they move their shields away to shoot. The flying machines shoot lassos at you. If they hit you, mash the buttons to break free as quickly as possible.

The guy from the second section of Carson City is back to make an ass out of himself again. Same rules apply, but they flying machines back him up here.

Third Section

The boss is some sort of flying silver robot with a long, whip-like tail and a purple orb covering most of its body. Shoot at the purple orb to shatter it a little bit, and watch out for the bullets and lassos it shoots out. Men will come out of the doors to shoot at you, but they can be easily avoided.

When you destroy the orb, it will have a new attack: launch a shower of plasma orbs that slowly fall to the ground. Avoid these and continue to shoot at the exposed core, and stay on the move.

Remember the gauge between the score and the bombs? Filling it up completely gives you the V-Gun: a super-fast-firing grenade launcher that demolishes everything and has infinite ammo until the gauge empties back out. All the while, you'll glow orange and have temporary invincibility.

Bonus Stage 1

Here, you'll shoot down as many targets as you can. You can't move your character, but you can move the cursor. The red targets leave behind gold bags that give you even more points if you can shoot them down, as they come down much faster than the blue ones.

At the end, you'll receive 500 points for each destroyed target.

Guns aren't a constant in the PrinceWatercress blog universe, but they might as well be. But, hey, you get another Hard Mode run, so I guess we can't complain!

Anyway, if you've played Cabal, you'll probably feel right at home with this one. If you haven't...you'll like it anyway. But do check that game out...Wild Guns is like Cabal, except with robots.

Carson City

Well, this is gonna be interesting.

Basically, you're trying to survive until the clock hits zero, while at the same time, shooting down everything you can, both enemies and environment. When the timer reaches zero, you'll face a mini-boss before moving to the next section. There are two sections and a boss in every stage, and being one of those "one-hit-and-you're-dead" games, getting from beginning to end is anything but easy!

You'll have a gun with infinite ammo and a few bombs that clear off everything on-screen for a few seconds, but you'll find other guns and more bombs along the way.

First Section

Here is where it all begins.

The big burly men have gold bags that show up when they die, which you can shoot at to collect. The top of the building to the left has a hidden bomb if you shoot it up. There are also men that come in from the sides, shoot at you, and then continue to the other side of the screen.

Whenever you see the small circles on the ground that flash, they're indicating bullets that are about to hit you. If you don't move away in time, you'll get hit and lose a life.

When an enemy appears in the foreground, they'll stop right in front of your character to hit you. If you press Y when they're right in front of you, your character will hit him with the butt of their gun, knocking them into the background.

You can also dodge bullets at the last second with a dive. To do that, press B while holding down Y. You can also hold Left or Right on the D-Pad prior to diving to move in your direction of choice. During the dive, you're invincible...but you can get hit as soon as you come out of it, so be careful when and where you dive.

If you press B to jump, and press B again in mid-air, you can double jump. It definitely comes in handy.

Pressing X sets off a bomb that causes a screen-clearing explosion that lasts for a few seconds. The purple jewels below your score indicate how many you have left, and you can carry up to five at any given time.

There is also a gauge between your score and your bombs that fills up as you progress. After you fire a certain number of consecutive, uninterrupted shots on an enemy in a row, it will slowly fill up. When it's completely full...well, you'll see.

The mechanical tanks that come out every so often are Gatling guns on wheels. They move into the screen, stop, and then up to shoot at you before moving back. If you can position your cursor correctly, you can shoot down all the bullets while you shoot down the tank.

There are four power-ups. There is the S-Gun, a shotgun blast with a slow rapid fire rate that does a good amount of damage. The M-Gun is a machine gun that fires faster than the regular gun, and it's pretty accurate despite its narrow blast radius. The G-Gun is a Grenade Launcher that does multiple hits' worth of damage and is really useful against bosses. The P-Gun is a useless toy gun that shoots rubber balls. It doesn't do any damage whatsoever, and the only way you can pick it up is if you collect a gun power-up with the "?" on it. If you get it, use all 50 shots immediately and stay out of the way of any incoming fire.

Every time you kill an enemy, you take a second away from the timer. This is what you want, as it makes it easier to survive the onslaught of enemies before the mini-boss of each section. Kill as many enemies as you can!

To pull out a lasso, press the Y button repeatedly. You won't be able to move as you spin it around, but you can use the Control Pad to guide the cursor and aim. When you're ready to throw it, quit pressing Y. When it hits an enemy, that enemy will flash light blue and will be immobilized for a brief time. Take this opportunity to take the enemy down or take care of other surrounding enemies or hazards.

The mini-boss here is a giant robot cowboy. Aim at its torso while avoiding its bullets as well as its napalm blast. It's better to be on the left side of this robot, so the napalm blast can miss you completely.

Second Section

You're now inside a bar. Apparently, there were neon bulbs, karaoke machines and ceiling fans in the Wild West.

Clear the tables out before you take out the enemies; they'll have gems you can take for points and it makes dealing with the enemies a lot easier. The guys behind the bar not only have gold bags and bombs, they also throw sticks of dynamite that you can hurl back at the enemies. If they're flashing after they've hit the ground, stay away; they're about to explode.

After a while, two red robots will show up. They can't move, but they will shoot at you when you get close. The dynamite works wonders against them, as well as (if you have it) the G-Gun.

The mini-boss here is some guy in a suit with a gun. He'll walk around before taking a few shots at you. Using the lasso on him definitely makes him easier to deal with, as he crawls around like a coward in an anime for a few seconds before he stands back up, allowing you to shoot at him again.

Third Section

Boss time! Here, you face a giant robot with a chaingun. Hit it in the face, and avoid the rockets it rains down on you as well as the chaingun itself. When it kneels down, that's your cue to start moving and diving around to avoid the rockets as they come down. Use your double jump and dive to avoid the attacks. You can also use the lasso on its face to freeze it temporarily.

At the end of every stage, you'll get a stage clear bonus as well as 500 points for every item you've picked up in the stage.
