PrinceWatercress plays Psychic World - Part 5 of 5

Welcome to the final round of the game! If you can somehow make it through the labyrinth of rooms and the boss gauntlet of this area, you'll face the final boss...and you won't believe who it is!

Round 5: Fortress

At the start, get your shield up and run to the right. Be ready to jump over parts of the floor that look different to avoid floor spikes, If you slow down, keep the shield up. From here, run across the yellow platform that acts as a fall-away floor. Be sure to keep holding Right. You'll run past the gaps. Enter the door, and use the screen clearing attack. Use the echo bullet to destroy all the blocks in your path. You'll have to climb underneath the room and use the screen clearing attack whenever necessary as you loop from the right to the left and you go down and then back up. Be ready to destroy blocks with the echo bullets when necessary, and use shield to get past the flashing red titles on the conveyor belts at the bottom. Duck down to open your way to the door with the echo bullets. The "up arrows" act like the red wavy lines from Round 4.  Enter the door.

Use the screen clearing attack and refill your health and ESP before making your way to the right. Remember to duck down while using the echo bullets if you need to open a path downward through. Keep moving to get enough speed to run against the conveyor belts at the end. Enter the door.

The next room has you using levitation to get to the other end. Use levitation and land where the ESP refills are so you can get a place to land. Be sure to tap the jump button lightly so you don't run into the flashing tiles and lose health. You'll eventually be able to refill your health and ESP before entering the next door.

To destroy the droid, use the shield immediately and just shoot at the legs repeatedly. From here, you'll be climbing up and down ladders and going left and right until you find the exit.

For the gray woman with blue hair and the sword, use the shield and pound away with your echo shot. That's all there is to that.

To destroy the red dinosaur aliens, use the shield and keep shooting the regular shot. For the four-armed cyborg that quickly moves back and forth, use the shield and keep shooting at it. For the the jetpack mech, use the shield, avoid the rockets and keep shooting at it when it is at ground level. The shield is just broken at this point, I swear.

After fighting enough mini-bosses, you'll unlock a door. Go in, activate the shield and shoot down the robot's legs. If you need to, levitate up and shoot the blocks with the echo bullet for health and ESP, then go through the door.

Equip the ice bullet - which you've probably never used all game and should be powered up fully now - and go left. There are no enemies here, so just run to the left and enter the door. You'll meet Cecile, but she is under some sort of mind control and you'll have to fight her. Use the shield, then use the ice beam to freeze Cecile and move past her. From here, you'll have to levitate upwards. Use the shield to get past the barriers. Don't forget to use the echo bullets to destroy some blocks.

You'll eventually drop down to the center of the central computer. Use the screen-clearing attack to expose the brain, then shoot at the brain with the ice bullet, the echo bullet, the fire bullet, the water bullet and the regular bullet, in that order. You'll eventually power down the main computer and destroy it. Go back to the left and Cecile will be free. Don't forget to use the shield during this sequence so you do not lose all your energy.

After Lucia checks on Cecille, Cecille tells Leila that Dr. Knavik was using them to take over the world. Dr. Knavik will show up and reveal that he was an evil alien robot the whole time. When you and Dr. Knavik go into the air, press Right when Dr. Knavik moves, and you'll kick him every time. Dr. Knavik will fall, and the lab will self-destruct. You've just beaten Psychic World!

The ruins are the toughest stage yet. Be ready to move!

Round 4: Ruins

Drop down and go to the left to get the final power: levitation. From here, leap up and to the right, and use your echo bullet to break the blocks in your path. As you go up, use the echo bullet to break the blocks to the right that hold the energy pillars in place. The energy pillars will really hurt you, so don't touch them, while the red wavy lines move you upwards when you jump without the use of the levitate spell. Get the ESP once you go up, and levitate to the door by holding 2 and moving towards the door when you activate it. Don't forget to power up the echo bullet on the way!

Climb up then make your way to the ball pipes. Equip the shield and head right. Use the screen clearing attack to destroy the enemies in the next room, and carefully make your way to the door without being hit by that spiked diamond. Power up your levitation ability before you go.

Use the screen clearing attack, to go left and jump to the left on the big stack of red wavy lines. Use the echo bullet to move on to the next area and refill some of your health. Use the screen clearing attack in the next room, and get all the power-ups that you can. Levitation should be fully powered-up by this point. Head to the right, and use your bullets on the mortar-shooting blue enemy and the jumping green one. Refill your health completely before going right.

From here, use the screen clearing attack, make your way to the bricks and destroy them with the echo bullet. Watch out for the red-and-gray shuriken as you make your way up. Destroy the bricks, then jump to where they were and enjoy the trip down. Refill your ESP and levitate to the next door.

Slowly make your way through the next room (which looks familiar) and go right. Use the screen clearing attack, then use the shield to get to the other side. Get the power-ups as well as the health and ESP refill, then enter the next door.

Use the shield, then jump into the red wavy lines and pound on the boss to destroy it. Equip your lighting bullets before entering the next door, so you can destroy the bricks to your right in the next room before you die from the spikes. Use the screen-clearing attack again, Levitate to the next door. After this, it's the mini-boss you just faced earlier. Same strategies apply.

After the mini-boss, go right and destroy the bricks holding the energy pillars with the echo bullet, then levirate to the right. Use the screen clearing attack and stand on the fall-away blocks to make your way down. Echo bullet your way to the door, then you'll be in a maze of red wavy lines for massive jumps. Make your way to the door at the top.

If you need health and ESP, go all the way to left and use levitation and the lighting bullets for it; otherwise, go right, take care of the enemies, then drop to the floor and go all the way to the right to drop down to the next section. Use levitate to get past the spiky diamonds and get to the door.

Destroy the enemy in the next room, and watch out for the spiked orbs so you can refill your health and ESP. Use the screen-clear when necessary, and watch out for the spiky diamonds. The next door is full of enemies. Use the screen-clear again and enter the final door.

The boss is a giant robot. Equip the shield so the big red spiked orbs that bounce around at 45-degree angles don't hurt you, then get up close. From here, wait for red waves to show up that will push you upwards. Then, wail away at the robot's green head with your normal shot once the upper wall of the barrier protecting the robot opens. If you see red waves moving to the left, you'll be pushed to the left side of the room, and you'll have to wait for these waves to disappear before going on the attack again. When you beat this boss, you'll be able to refill your health entirely, and it's on to the final stage.

PrinceWatercress plays Psychic World - Part 3 of 5

Out of the frying pan and into the...snow? Well, there had to be an ice world after we saw a fire one.

Round 3: Ice Field

The green blob will stop moving to shoot at you, and the blue creatures move back and forth. The icicles floors are fall-away floors. Use the fire bullet to destroy the ice blocks.

When you see the blue-and-grey flashing pixels, hit them with the water bullet to turn them into ice cubes that you can use as platforms. You can always use the fire bullet to get them out of your way.

The solid white-grey-and-blue floor is a slippery floor. Go slow so you don't slide forward very fast. Thankfully, you can jump around to change direction.

The circle with the "X" in the center is the ice bullet. It will not be very powerful now, but soon enough...

When you start climbing up, use your normal shot to take care of the enemies, and watch where you're going. Use the left ladder to make your way up, and use the water bullets to make platforms from the second ladder to the third ladder. Afterwards, you'll have to use the water bullets to create a bridge to the door to the next section. Carefully switch from the water bullet to the fire bullet so you can create the blocks you need and get rid of the ones you don't without making much of a mess. This will require a little bit of patience.

Once you get to the door, use the shield before you go through the door (you can go down on the other end of this vertical chamber for power-ups, if you want), You'll face an ice mini-boss. The shield will protect you as you use your fire bullet, and you can power up the fire bullet after beating the boss here. You'll then be able to climb up another vertical section, where - once again - you'll have to use the water bullet and the platforms you create to get to the top. Be sure to use the water bullet at the top of the last ladder to give yourself more room to get around, and you'll be able to burn down the ice blocks with the fire bullet and go right to enter the next section. If you want, you can go even further up and eventually loop back down once you get to the other side for power-ups.

From here, be ready to slide to the other end of the room. If you can get to the top path and stay there, getting around will be easier, since you won't have to slide around as much. The squid enemy just move up and down, while the rock enemy will move back and forth every so often. When you reach the end, jump right so you hit the wall when you enter the next section, and use the screen clear attack to get rid of all the squids. After that, you'll have to use the water bullet and the fire bullet to get to the door.

At the door, use the shield, then go in. Equip the water bullet to make a set of platforms to the dragon boss' head, then equip the bullet and shoot at the head. Be careful, as the dragon can spit fire that can melt the platform. Be sure to re-apply the shield throughout the fight, so you don't get hit. When you beat the boss, you'll get a new ability: an echo bullet that will destroy some tougher blocks.

PrinceWatercress plays Psychic World - Part 2 of 5

The action heats up - almost literally - in Round 2.

Round 2: Volcanic Area

At the beginning, you'll have to drop down. Go left to avoid falling through the floor into the water below. You'll find an icon with three circles that destroys all on-screen enemies when used. From here, go up the ladders and beat up the gray spiked turtles that move back and forth, collecting icons as you go while also avoiding the fireballs that come out of the lava volcanoes. At the top is another power-up for your water bullet; you'll need it.

Once you go back down, go to the left, climb up the ladder and enter the door. Climb down and leap from one lava platform to another as they all move to the left, then jump to climb up the ladder and enter the next door. Be sure to take out the rock monster from behind as you make your way there so its projectiles don't hit you.

From here, make your way right, taking care not to fall into the lava. The fire ball enemy will move up and down as it moves back and forth. You'll get health and ESP pick-ups along the way. At the two fall-away paths, take the top path for a shield power-up, then go into the door below once you fall to it.

To get through the next section, use your shield power-up. As long as Lucia's dress is blue, she will not take damage, even from the lava. There is also a sound cue that will get faster when it is about to run out.  Use this to give yourself free reign to pound on the boss with your attack without taking any damage. Go through the door on the left. Jump your way to the next door. Once again, use your shield. You'll face the mini-boss you just destroyed. Use the shield and go to town, then grab the big heart. Drop down, head to the left while dealing with the volcanoes and the fireball enemy, then drop down and run left to the ladder. You'll soon be able to get to another door.

Jump the lava gap, and when you drop down to the fall-away floor, immediately run to the right and jump over the fireballs as you go. You'll avoid the droplets if you're fast and nimble enough. You'll reach another door. Go in, then equip your water bullets and destroy the orange circles that are in your way, as they will damage you. Climb up the ladder, enter the door and face the boss.

The boss here is a flying purple demon. Get close and hit this thing in the stomach, and stay close so its trail of fireballs that comes and goes - which moves in one of a few patterns when it comes out - won't hit you most of the time. You'll eventually defeat this thing and get an icon with what looks like a target on it, which gives you a fire bullet.

Here's a 2D platformer-shooter for the Master System that you don't hear much about. A shame, really, because this game is pretty darn good.

In a science lab in the middle of nowhere, Dr. Knavik does his research on ESP. The twin sisters, Lucia and Cecile, work as his assistants. One day a section of the lab blew up.

"Wow! What was that? Hope Cecile and Dr. Knavik are OK."

"The monsters that we keep for experiments escaped and took Cecile with them!"

"Oh no! Poor Cecile!"

"Wear this ESP Booster. It'll help you."

"Hang in there, sis. I'll save you."

Round 1: Prairie

Left and Right let you move around, while Button 1 lets you shoot projectiles at enemies. Holding down 2 and using the Control Pad lets you switch between powers that you'll learn through the game.

If you move in one direction long enough, you'll break into a run.

B icons give you points, while the plus icon will give you the shield ability. Collecting multiple icons for the same ability powers it up. Hearts in bubbles refill your health, with a small one giving you some health while the big one refills it entirely. The yellow energy ball in a bubble will refill your ESP meter, which you'll need for your other abilities.

The circle icon increases the power of your default weapon. When you have three beams, it is as powerful as it can be.

The enemies here are pretty simple, for the most part.

To beat the flower mini-boss, get right up net to it and duck down, then keep shooting until it dies.

The waterfall will push you forward, so let it carry you so you can defeat some enemies.

The "infinite" symbol gives you the ability to return to the beginning of a world will all enemies respawned in case you want to get more power-ups.

The boss here is some sort of chimera-like beasts. Get close to the center of the screen and keep firing away and keep shooting. Once you're there, keep shooting. You'll take down a bunch of fireballs and even take some damage, but the boss will fall before you do. When you beat the boss, you'll be able to get a new power-up - a bullet with the power of water - before going to the next round.
