DeceasedCrab plays Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu - Part 6 of 6

All right, here it is! The final fight between Jackie Chan and the Sorcerer!

In his first form, the Sorcerer will move back and forth, fire a projectile, and then jump around before doing it again. Your best bet is to wait for him to shoot the projectile, then jump over it and kick him. He's much easier when you do this. Don't forget - he can't hurt you from touching you when he's flashing. Sometimes he'll perform a kick, so be careful.

After 26 hits, he changes from green to cyan and has a dot on his head. He'll take eight more hits before he finally falls. He'll turn into an orb with a flame inside it and float to the top of the screen afterward. Go right, and you'll open a door with your sister in it. She'll refill three of your life points, and then you'll meet the Master after walking to the right a little more. Walk to the right even more and you'll find a cloud. Jump on it.

You'll face the boss's third form - a spider that is hanging from a thread that seems to be sticking to the sky. Or something. I dunno.

The projectiles he fires follows you at a pretty good speed, but they disappear after a few seconds. Thankfully, you can move anywhere on the screen. Fire Psycho Waves at him and use any power-ups you may have to make the battle against him a little easier. When he turns red, he's about to die. Keep hitting him and avoiding the projectiles and he'll eventually fall.

You'll see the Master one more time, then Jackie and his sister stand there until the screen turns gold and a Chinese character appears. Then the credits play. Yep, that's it. That's your ending.

Tune in next time for the final intermission, and another series of blogs after that. G'day.

DeceasedCrab plays Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu - Part 5 of 6

A dojo with death beams? Who lives here? Quick Man?

The first enemies you meet are hermit crabs and guys with spears that just jump up. When you see the second hermit crab, hit it and jump up to the platform it was on. You'll get the last Bonus Stage bell of the game.

After Bonus Stage

After this platform, the torches in the background will be unlit and it will go dark. Keep going right until some weird statue enemy drops. The lights will turn back on and you'll be able to see again.

There are also enemies holding candles. Do not hit them unless you want to fumble around in the dark. You'll eventually find a frog, and then another guy with a candle will pop up.

You'll be running around in the dark for a while, and you'll have to ride a platform for a while. If you still have the Somersault power-up, you can skip this platform and make it all the way to the next frog.

After another platform that just goes up and down, you'll be jumping up more platforms until you find the entrance to the next section.

The second section immediately whips you to the right, as the floor is littered with conveyor belts. Avoid the frog that you see at the beginning, it'll be hard to knock out as the floor below the conveyor belts acts like the clouds in World 5. Take the high road and you'll avoid most of the enemies, anyway.

Another vertical platform hopping section, and it's on to the next section.

Another fast, auto-scrolling now awaits you. You'll be punching enemies while running up and down hills of bones and jumping over pits of boiling lava. If you can manage to hit the frog here, you could get a much-needed power-up!

The four turtle shells you see afterward do not fall when you stand on them, so you have a few more seconds to time your jumps...but only a few. It won't be long until you reach the next section.

The fourth section is a vertical jumping stage. Be careful not to stand into the path of the beams that shoot through the black areas of the wall. Once you reach the top, you'll see balls rotating around the pillars as they float towards the ceilings. You cannot destroy those, though you can destroy the enemies for Bonus Jades.

You'll eventually reach an elevator which takes you to the next section. Walk to the right for a while and you'll see a dragon. It breathes some sort of weird, ice crystal breath that moves in a wave pattern, similar to the robot dogs in the Wood Man stage from Mega Man 2. What, is this game borrowing from Mega Man now?!?

The dragon will die after five hits, and you'll soon find a door. A frog will pop out of it. Defeat the next dragon (jump over the ice crystal breath when it reaches its lowest point) and you'll find another frog behind the next door. After another dragon, you'll find the Master flying on top of a cloud. He leaves, so just keep going. You'll eventually see a brown wall with skulls on it. It's time for the final fight against the Sorcerer!

DeceasedCrab plays Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu - Part 4 of 6

Gee, guys, evil land sure is evil, mirite?

Yeah, if you couldn't already tell, you're kinda in the Sorcerer's territory now. Onwards!

The first enemies you see are those skull butterflies making their first return appearance since Level 2. Once again, they're easy. There's 11 of them, so that's a good amount of easy Bonus Jades for you to collect. The frog you see near the end of this short easy section gives you a power-up that you probably could need.

The snowballs that you see coming out of the ground are snowball-toting yetis. Avoid the snowball and hit them, they go down in one hit. There is also a frog on the upper platform.

The next platform you see, you should jump up to. Why? Well, there's a Bonus Stage bell at the top! Go get it!

After Bonus Stage 1

Walk right until you hit the next section, beating the tiger down as you do so. You'll meet some more skull butterflies and yetis before you find a cloud. Jump on top of the cloud and you'll enter the next section. You're now in some sort of cloud land in the sky, it seems.

The clouds are bouncy and send you back into the air when you land on them, and they can steer you straight into the pits if you're not careful. There are what appear to be spiky fish flying around. Don't even tangle with them, just keep on going. Be sure to press jump when you land on the cloud so you can make the jumps. If you do fall into a pit, a giant will kick you back into the section, but you'll lose a unit of health and have to start the section over.

Time your jump right so that you can easily reach the flying turtle platform. If you have the Somersault power-up, you can make quick work of the next few cloud platforms. Just be sure to use it at the right moment.

After a while, there will be platforms at the bottom of the screen again. When that happens, head to the bottom. You'll find another Bonus Stage bell.

After Bonus Stage 2

You'll have to dodge a flying spiky fish before you can continue. Once you jump the gap, you'll find a frog. You'll then have to go through a maze of sorts where you have to dodge a few spiky fish. You'll then encounter two turtle platforms that will fall when you land on them, so be quick. You'll jump onto another, and find a frog.

Soon afterward, you'll meet a cloud Cyclops. If you're wondering why it's purple like that foot that kept kicking you back to the beginning of this section, it's the same creature.

Avoid its hand as you keep kicking it in the eye. As you lay waste to it, the eye will become more bloodshot until it's fully red. Once you're at that point, hit it until the eye explodes. You're in the clear, but don't rest just yet...you've got one more level!

DeceasedCrab plays Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu - Part 3 of 6

Those turtles must have jet-packs they can use when they hide in their shells. Or something. I dunno.

At the start of the level, you'll find some green turtle shells that are flying around like they have jet-packs inside of them. After those there will be a red turtle shell flying around. This is really a flying turtle that tries to fly into you. Attack it.

After a while, you'll encounter a lone green shell. Jump on that to fly to a set of platforms. Go left. You'll have to time your jumps so you don't accidentally fall to the bottom of the screen. There will be a set of platforms taking you further upwards almost immediately after that. Go right, and you'll encounter two more flying turtles. The first one will take you to the second shell; when you jump on the second shell, it will stop flying and immediately begin to fall.

After another set of platforms, you'll be going left again. Once again, you'll have to time your jumps carefully as the jump from the second shell here will be a long one. After the next set of platforms, the next three shells follow a much easier pattern, all of them diagonally.

The next three shells fall when you land on them, so you'll have to jump on each one in quick succession.

For the next set: The first shell falls, the second shell takes you to the third, the third takes you to the entrance to the next section. Just before the third shell there is another red turtle that you'll have to beat up before you can continue. After that, there will be two birds to kick.

Go further to the right at the next section, and you'll encounter what looks like a raft. Jump on it and it'll take you to the right rather quickly. Be sure to punch enemies as they come along. There will be a frog up ahead. There will also be a log barrier that breaks the raft after this, making it disappear. Jump over the barrier, you'll be seeing these often.

You'll fall down a waterfall and come across another raft. Shortly afterward, you'll encounter what looks like a lizard ninja that throws pickle boomerangs...or something. The raft after that is proceeded by two spiked balls that pop out of the water when you least expect it...be ready to jump!

There's another raft after the next waterfall, but instead of taking it, go up the platforms and knock the lizard ninja(?) into the water. He won't die, but you will be able to get the Bonus Stage bell.

After Bonus Stage 1

You'll soon be dropping back into the raging current. Jump up the platforms that are ahead, and you'll soon be landing on another raft. Duck under the platforms, hit the lizard ninja (Are they Kappas? Somebody please tell me), and jump over the barrier that breaks the raft.

The first raft after the next waterfall will careen you straight into a spiked ball if you don't jump in time. There's just one fish to punch on the second one. The third one is even easier. Duck under the next platform to avoid the Kappa, then punch the two birds. The fourth one is an obstacle course that's nothing but spiked balls to jump over.

After the next waterfall, get on the platforms. There's another Bonus Stage bell waiting for you!

After Bonus Stage 2

You'll be back at the end of that set of platforms again. There'll be flying platforms moving around as soon as you're back in the stage. Ride them to avoid the spiked fish.

After the next waterfall, there'll be another Kappa. On the raft, there are three birds...punch the second one, since the first and third will just fly over you.

Before the next raft, you'll find a frog. There is one last raft that comes with only three birds. You'll then reach the entrance to the final section.

Walk to the right, and you'll find a frog. It will start flashing and turn into a much bigger one that flies into the air and spits tadpoles at you.

Use your Psycho Waves to fight him from a distance at the beginning. After four Psycho Waves, he'll turn red. Use your last one on him, then use any special abilities you have to finish him off. He's really easy.

It's on to Level 4 after this.

DeceasedCrab plays Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu - Part 2 of 6

We're in a cave? Awesome!

When you start running to the right, you'll see a frog. After that, you'll drop into a pit and land on a bridge that's situated just above an ocean of boiling lava. There are flaming birds that fly in the air and dive towards you when they see you, as well as rocks floating above the lava that crumble the longer you stand on them.

The men that shoot fireballs don't walk very far in either direction, so keep that in mind when you have to attack them to move on.

Shortly after you start meeting this type of enemy, there'll be a bell. Grab that to get a Bonus Stage.

After Bonus Stage 1

You'll be back on the platform that's unstable, so be ready to hold Right on the Control Pad before you return.

The guys with the spears that spin around cause the screen to shake, but that's about it. They're easier than the game makes them out to be. There will soon be a frog. This makes the stage a little easier...if you have trouble jumping from platform to platform, grab this.

There will be another bell on an unstable platform. This one takes you to another Bonus Stage.

After Bonus Stage 2

Once again, you'll be back on an unstable platform, so be ready to move.

You'll soon see large, fiery worms leaping out of the lava. They're indestructible, so be ready to duck when they come your way. If you stand in the right place and do it, they won't be able to hurt you.

Soon, the screen will automatically scroll upwards. You'll have to keep up as you jump from one unstable platform to another. The lava will gradually creep up, and when you're almost done, the screen will scroll faster. Once you make it to the top, run all the way to the right.

Now you're someplace cold. This time, the spinning guys with the spears will knock icicles down from the ceiling when they whacks his spear on the ground, so be careful when you advance towards them to hit them.

If you're agile enough, you can take the upper road and avoid enemies altogether, making the boss battle at the end much easier. If you're forced to take the low road, remember that the guys who threw fireballs are now blue and throw icicles, and that the flying butterfly skulls fly left and right and specific patterns, so you can flee from them if you absolutely have to.

After a while, you'll find another bell. You'll soon enter another Bonus Stage.

After Bonus Stage 3

6:45 reminds me of this.

Crouch and kick to defeat the mice. There'll be more of the blue guys and the butterfly skulls, but thankfully it's not much longer until you reach the last section.

The boss causes fireballs to rise from the lava every time he hits the ground with his staff. They'll rise, lower briefly, then fly towards you. If you still have the Somersault power-up, he's really easy...the fireballs won't even touch you. Otherwise, anticipate where the fireballs will be (there will always be one under you when he hits the ground with his staff), then jump in and kick him in the chest.

When he puts his left hand to his chest, get away from his staff...it will damage you. Avoid the staff and anticipate where it's going to land to keep it from touching you, and continue to kick the boss in the chest. After a few more hits, he'll go down. It's on to Level 3!

DeceasedCrab plays Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu - Part 1 of 6

Wait...Jackie Chan had his own video game? Awesome!

This is going to be a very fun series for me to do. This time around, there will be five intermissions and an epilogue, bringing this series to twelve entries.

Why?

Because this is Jackie Chan, that's why.

See, after each video in the play-through, I'll post another entry the following day that has a fight scene from one of Jackie Chan's many movies that I've happened to find on YouTube. Yeah, you're welcome.

The demo begins with Jackie Chan and some lovely Hong Kong beauty. Suddenly, some weird Chinese demon appears and zaps Jackie before stealing the girl. This is the explanation why, according to the manual:

Jackie Chan and his twin sister, Josephine, were two of China's best kung fu fighters. Trained together from birth, they were a formidable team. All was fine, until their Master's arch enemy, the Sorcerer returned from behind the Great Wall to seize power and rule China. The Sorcerer put a spell on Josephine and made her disappear, believing that neither twin would be strong enough to defeat him without the other.

Along the way, the Sorcerer sends his henchmen to try to destroy Jackie.  Watching over the young Kung Fu master, his master guides and instructs him through the action-packed ordeal.

Jackie must now rescue his sister and save China by defeating the Sorcerer and the evil monsters created by the Sorcerer's magic.

The game begins rather easily enough. You bow to the Master before heading off to fight...

Now the game begins. You'll soon see a frog. Frogs will carry power-ups, so hit them whenever you can. They're mostly random, though some abilities are more common than others. The enemies here aren't really that hard. They leave green balls Bonus Jades when they die - collect as many as possible as getting 30 replenishes both your life and Psycho Wave bars fully. After a while, you'll approach some platforms that will take you across some mud. Ride those to the other side, then walk right until a bell appears in mid-air from out of nowhere. Grab it and you'll be taken to a bonus stage.

After Bonus Stage 1

You'll be right back where you left off, which is just before a spike pit with platforms above it. Ride the platforms, and after a while you'll find another frog. The two tigers up ahead can be defeated with three punches, but a power-up has the strength of two punches. Do whatever you need to to defeat them.

You'll soon go into a temple. On your way through it, you'll see nunchaku flying in mid-air and fish jumping out of the water. You'll see a frog afterward.

You'll also be seeing snakes between stone platforms. Crouch and kick them to get them out of the way. You'll soon see the source of the flying nunchaku...a pot. Destroy it so you can go further.

You'll now be running across wooden floors while jumping spike pits. There are tilting platforms that will shift one direction or the other when you stand on them. The first enemy you see here appears to be some red ninja hiding in a ramen bowl that shoots arrows at you, which is easily beatable.

There are slopes of some sort that appear to have water or syrup or something sliding downwards into a small bowl at the end. They act somewhat like conveyor belts that send you into the spikes, so be careful when you're on them. There are also spiked balls that move up and down...avoid those, since you can't destroy them.

The next section moves scrolls quickly. You'll have to move to the right pretty fast or else you'll die. This area may take a few tries, but it is beatable. You'll be jumping from platform to platform, avoid spikes and attacking enemies only when you have to. If you hit the spikes or get crushed by the screen, you lose a life point. That's interesting...not dying when the scrolling screen crushes you...that'll take some getting used to.

After a while, the screen stops scrolling and you get to jump up some platforms. When you make it to the top, head on to the right.

You'll have to keep walking on the top of the waterfall to keep your balance on it. There's a frog down there too, and if you do go down there, there will be a log at the end that will help you get back up to the top.

Near the end of this section is another bonus bell that will appear at the top of the screen. Go grab it!

After Bonus Stage 2

The last section is just a quick stroll to the boss. He is easily beatable with five Psycho Waves. To use them, just hold down the B button until the red light on your fist flashes quickly, then release the button. Jump on the platforms on either side and release the Psycho Waves so that they hit the statue in the face. Run away when his fists extended towards you, and you'll get through this unharmed. Easy win!

You'll then drop through the floor and into Stage 2.
