Part nostalgia-bomb, part note-taking and part FAQ, what started in GameTrailers as a video game blog is now on Blogger. This blog is a look back at video games, both popular and obscure, from the video game industry's infancy all the way to the previous console generation.
Scanner Ball is now a training module. Here, you'll need to move the scanner ball with the Control Pad, then hold A and move around to carve into parts of the grid and turn parts of the grid blue. If you've played Qix, then you'll know exactly how this works. As you progress, you'll have to turn more of the grid blue, and you'll have to avoid a green thing with two triangles that will try to destroy you on contact.
Mexico
Sunny City
Once again, you're using the Wrist Glider and the Invisibility Ring to go from Point A to Point B to get past all the guards. One of the Secret Files involves taking a long jump off the very edge of a platform to get.
At the end, you'll find out that a device inside the Aztec pyramid will allow her to hypnotize anyone.
Aztec Pyramid
There is another type of security droid here as you go from top to bottom: a bigger droid with a red eye. If they're moving, they've spotted you. Use the Invisibility Ring to outsmart the droids, which move around similarly to the female agents.
Four of the Secret Files will be in a row near the end.
Hi-Tech Hideaway
You're deeper into the pyramid now.
Four of the Secret Files will be all in one room shortly after the beginning. If you take all the routes at the beginning, you'll find them all.
Courtyard Chase
Here, you'll chase after Camille on horseback. You'll have to jump over fences and rock walls in order to collect all ten Secret Files, then you'll just need to catch up with Camille without hitting anything.
At the end, Camille and Dr. Crony will go to prison, then you'll be thanked by the queen. You did it!
Our adventure takes us to Italy, where we find out that Camille has teamed with a crooked scientist named Dr. Crony...and that the jewels have a hidden purpose...
The mini-game from The Palace - known as Double Catch - gets its own training module at this point in the game.
Italy
Opera House
Camille is meeting a scientist named Dr. Crony who may have stolen the Prince's Rubies.
Once again, you have the Smoke Screen Compact, so use it whenever you need to in order to stun any guards.
The female guards will chase you if they see you, and they are pretty fast and have the ability to jump. Stun them with the Smoke Screen Compact when necessary.
The opera balconies are platforms.
You'll soon see Camille meeting with Dr. Crony, who will tell Camille that he will see him in Mexico so that they can make jewels based on the ones they have stolen for a device.
Canal Chase
Here, you'll need to chase after Dr. Crony on a jet sky. Avoid the other boats and collect all the Secret Files as you chase after Dr. Crony. This time, you can move left and right with the Control Pad, and if you can catch up with Dr. Crony, he'll speed away and you'll end the level.
Fashion District
Dr. Crony is hiding in the Fashion District. Use the Robot Spy Puppy and the Smoke Screen Compact to get the guards out of the way.
If you use the Robot Spy Puppy at the start, go left and make it take off, you'll get the first of six Secret Files more easily.
Pay attention to the floors. One of the ladders is hard to spot.
Scuba Search
The entrance to Dr. Crony's lab is underwater, and you'll be donning scuba here to get to it. There are twelve Secret Files, and you'll have to look all around to find them. Thankfully, it's not hard to figure out where you are.
The only enemies to worry about are security droids. As long as you don't move into them, you're fine. Thankfully, moving is easy: all you use is the Control Pad, and you don't have to use any gadgets.
At the end, you'll find the missing jewels, but one rare gem is missing from each one. It turns out that the gems are one-of-a-kind, and when combined, can be used to create a hypnotizing light.
The Wrist Glider is used to glide from one spot to another with a grappling hook and reach places that are too high to jump to. Just go up to the Wrist Glider icon, face the direction you want to go and press B to glide in that direction. Holding Left or Right while in motion gives you a little bit more distance.
The Robot Spy Puppy is used to not only distract guards with a barking noise by pressing the A button, but you can use it to scout ahead and reach places Barbie can't go or fit into. To get it to fly away, press B. If you need to keep the The best part about this gadget is that you can use it to get some Secret Files from below if you have a hard time getting them, and I really cheese that in this Let's Play.
The Short Circuit mini-game was covered in the first video, but you'll get a description of it in the training section at this point. In later levels, you'll have to deal with more than one blue square (or as the game calls them, "chips").
The Slip Lock allows you to change the game difficulty.
China
City Streets
You'll be using the Wrist Glider to get on some of the roofs, and you'll be looking through every nook and cranny to find all eight Secret Files here. Also, be ready to use the Robot Spy Puppy to get some of the guards out of your way.
Secret Hideout
Here, we're looking for the Secret Files. That's it. That's why we're here. Don't forget that you can still use the Robot Spy Puppy and the Smoke Screen Compact to distract and stun guards respectively while hiding in doorways.
Golden City
It is revealed that Camille is going to steal the Imperial Emeralds.
You do not want the flying security droids to touch you in any way; having that happen causes you to take damage.
You'll be using the Robot Spy Puppy to get most, if not all, of the Secret Files here.
From here on out, you'll have to deal with more than one chip during the Short Circuit mini-games.
The Palace
Instead of a driving stage, you have yet another side-scrolling area. You've got nine Secret Files to pick up around here, and you'll be moving up and down and all around to get through this area and find all the Secret Files.
You'll also see a new mini-game. Blue circles will move onto a spinning disc in the circle, then they will be launched. You will need to catch them with the pink goals at the sides to complete the mission and open whatever the terminal has locked tight. Just watch where the balls go and you'll be all right. As you progress through the game, you'll have to catch more blue balls.
When you complete the mission, you'll find out that Imperial Emeralds are gone.
It's time for another Barbie game! This one is a little more interesting, since you're running around, jumping, avoiding enemies and even using gadgets such as a smoke bomb, a robot puppy and a grappling hook!
The game begins with somebody stealing the Queen of England's Jewels. It turns out that an evil spy known as Camille is the main suspect. Barbie is on the case!
The Control Pad lets you move. Left and Right let you move, while Down lets you duck. Pressing Up or Down in front of a ladder (as appropriate) will let you climb a ladder with Up and Down. Also, let's get this out of the way now: Barbie got a booty. A lets you jump, holding Down and pressing A lets you roll into narrow passages,
Sometimes, you can hide in doorways in the background. Use Up on the Control Pad to hide in them. Remember that you can use some gadgets such as the Robot Spy Puppy and the Smoke Screen Compact (more on those later) while hiding in doorways.
Sometimes, you'll have to hack into terminals with the B button.to open doors. When you do this, you'll have to play mini-games to ensure a successful hack. For the Slip Lock mini-game, which involves moving a blue circle between moving columns, press Right when the blue circle is lined up with the gap in the columns. From there, move into the gate at the end to complete the mini-game. You only have a limited amount of tries in case you mess up, and they will be in the lower-right corner. If you lose all your tries, you'll have to hack the terminal again.
The Stealth Ring makes you invisible. Use L and R to equip it if necessary, then press B to use it. Watch the power meter on the upper-left corner. Turn off the ring when you don't need so its power can recharge.
The Smoke Screen Compact is used to stun a guard that is unlucky enough to be near it or have it thrown at them. Use L and R to equip it if necessary, then press B to use it. You can only have one smoke screen on-screen at a time.
England
Tower Roof
Here, you'll need to get to the other side without being seen. Also, see if you can find all the Secret Files so you can unlock things for later in the game.
If you press Select, you can see how many Secret Files you have collected. Be sure to look all around so you can find all six Secret Files in this stage.
If you are spotted by a guard, a triangle with an exclamation point will appear over your head and the energy bar on the upper-right will go down until you get away from them. Thankfully, the guards are not very aggressive.
When you beat a stage, you'll get a password. If you've found all the Secret Files for a stage, you'll be able to see what you've unlocked. They are all cosmetic changes to things in the game such as Barbie, her
The Royal Tower
You'll get your first Slip Lock mini-game at the start of this stage. At first, the terminals will be near the doors you need to unlock, but in later stages, you'll need to look around to see where you need to go next.
The green googles will restore your health in case you have been spotted at any point.
Be ready to use the Stealth Ring to get past all the guards in this stage.
London Subway
Camille has made her way tot he subway station, and her guards are on the train. You'll have to sneak by them to get to the front of the train, and to do that, you'll have to climb in and out of the cars and use your gadgets to avoid being spotted.
There is another mini-game. Press A to line up the laser gun at the top with the blue square, then press A again to line up the laser gun on the left with the blue square as the square moves up and down. When both lasers are lined up with the square, you'll destroy it and be able to continue on.
Street Chase
Here, you'll be chasing Camille's car in traffic. As you do this, avoid other cars with Up and Down on the Control Pad, and try to get all the Secret Files. As you progress, Barbie will move slowly to the right, making it slightly more harder to avoid other cars and catch up to the black car that Camille is. As long as you watch Camille, however, you can catch up with her.
Camille will escape, and you'll find out that Camille is off to China.
