PrinceWatercress plays Alex Kidd in Shinobi World - Part 4 of 4

It's time to bring this adventure to an end and get our girlfriend back!

Round 4

If you have less than three hits at the end of a round, you'll start the next round with three hits.

The black balls will slowly move towards you and can be easily avoided by jumping over them.

If you fall into the pits after the start at any point in the first stage, you'll take the lower path. Wait for the spears to go down before passing by them. If you see any zombies come out of the ground, hit them. The monk will strike at you with his rod if he sees you, so hit him from behind.

For the second section, you'll be doing some platforming on wooden platforms, some of which will fall when you stand on them. If you fall down, you'll be underwater and you'll have to deal with fish and mollusks that shoot at you. Thankfully, the first stage isn't long.

For the second stage, you'll want to go through each room carefully so you'll have enough health for the mini-boss rush that is here.

To beat Ken-Oh with the sword, you'll have to wait for him to throw a fireball, then move under it after it bounces and hit Ken-Oh. You'll knock him back. When he shrink, be ready to jump over his fireballs and to duck down to hit him.

The big black stones with the spikes will drop down when you get close and slowly rise upwards afterwards. Make your was past them when they slowly rise up.

To beat Robster with the sword, you'll need to wait for Robster to make a big leap before leaping towards him and hitting him with your sword, then you'll need to get away so the butter doesn't hit you. Keep doing this until Robster is gone.

For the final room, wait for all the platforms to show up before going all the way to the right side of the room and getting on the lowest one. From here, you'll need to jump from platform to platform. On the third platform, you can wall jump to the right and take a shortcut to the exit.

The final boss of the game is Hanzo. To beat Hanzo's first phase, go up to him when he stops flashing and smack him. For the second phase, you'll need to avoid the projectiles and hit him while he is in tornado form. Jump over the high ones and try to duck the low ones, and hit him before he gets out of tornado form. For the third phase, he creates clones. You'll need to hit him as he continuously jumps forward, and you'll also need to hit the clones when need be. When you take down his third form, you'll beat Hanzo for good and you'll rescue your girlfriend before the good ninja spirit restores you to normal. You've won!

This is the point where this short game ramps up in difficulty. Get ready!

Round 3

In the first stage, the toucans will dive down at you. When on the ropes, hold the direction you want to jump to before jumping. Be careful on the wooden bridges; some of the segments will fall underneath.

Sometimes, fish will come out of the waterfall when you least expect them. Keep an eye on where you are as you make your way up at the beginning of the first stage.

On the mountains after the waterfall, the spinning enemies cannot be destroyed. Also, the toucans will stop to shoot thunderbolts down. Be ready to jump off small square-shaped platforms and use the tornado to get past the bamboo spikes pits (which are not insta-kill, thankfully).

Interestingly, there is a part of the left wall that you can stand in, and if you duck-walk to the left, you'll get a shortcut that gives you some power-ups and allows you to skip the rest of the waterfall segment. (This shortcut is shown in Classic Game Room's review of the game, which I posted as yesterday's intermission.)

On the second stage, watch out for the fireballs that come out of the lava pits as well as the lava drops that come down from the ceilings. Also, the big green slime splits into four smaller slimes when you attack it...so watch out!

The mine cart will get you over bamboo spike pits, but you'll need to remember to move with it, as the mine cart does not keep you on top of it as it moves. Repeated jumping is preferred.

In the third part of the second stage, there is a chest with Kunai to the left. Don't be like me; take the Kunai, it makes beating the boss easier. As for the platforms, be ready to jump to the left and land on another platform below when they are about to sink completely into the lava as they bob up and down in it.

To beat Robster (who is really a lobster and not a red samurai), throw Kunai at Robster as he comes down, and stay away from the butter that he shoots out. After three hits; Robster becomes a buttered lobster and goes down. If you have the sword, you can stay in the corner and slash at him when he gets close. (This is also seen in Classic Game Room's review of the game.)

PrinceWatercress plays Alex Kidd in Shinobi World - Part 2 of 4

In this episode, we head to the harbor, go for a swim and beat up a bunch of tiny helicopters.

Round 2

If you had Kunai in the previous round, you'll lose it and go back to the sword upon entering the next.

Be careful near the edges; ninjas will jump out of the water. Strike if they show up. Also, the water itself is not a bottomless pit; you can stand and walk around in it.

The doorway shortly after the start of the first stage will take you to the Kunai if you can break all of the blocks. Unlike the previous stage, you'll want to skip it here. Also, the chest you see as soon as you go into the ship will give the power to turn into a tornado and wipe out all enemies while allowing you to go anywhere you want on the screen for a limited amount of time.

In the second stage, you'll be swimming around. The fish will go straight for you when you are lined up with them, and when you hit them, you will knock them back a bit.

When in the water, you will slowly float to the surface. Move Alex Kidd around with the Control Pad to keep him from doing that. Unlike in Miracle World, touching spikes hurts you whether you have your hand on the Control Pad or not.

The pit covered by the two chests will take you to a secret underground underwater area  If you're high on health, you can get quite a few 1-Ups here. On the way back up, take the middle path to get to the exit. If you want, you can go to the exit, but you can also backtrack through the door on the left, go over the wall on the right and get yet another chest with health/another 1-Up. The right path contains the Kunai.

To beat the Heli boss, just stand in one place and strike all the tiny helicopters. When you beat enough of them and empty the entire row of helicopters telling you how many you have left to destroy, you'll beat the boss battle.

PrinceWatercress plays Alex Kidd in Shinobi World - Part 1 of 4

Our girlfriend has been kidnapped by the Dark Ninja! Thankfully, the spirit of a good ninjas has given us his power so we can get after him! Hey, this game plays like Shinobi, but is kind of its own thing! That's cool!

Round 1

Left and Right let you move around, Down lets you duck, 1 lets you attack and 2 lets you jump. Down-Left and Down-Right let you do the duck walk.

The ninjas will move towards you, while the guys with the red top knots will throw boomerangs at you. Hit them from behind if you can, but you'll usually be jumping over their boomerangs to hit them.

The leaping green ninjas will leap towards you, and you'll have to time it right to whack them with the sword and get rid of them.

The chests usually contain hearts. Your health is in the upper-left corner, and you can have up to six hits. If you open a chest with a heart in it with maximum health, you'll find an Alex Kidd doll that gives you a 1-Up instead, so playing super well will give you a bunch of lives to get through the game with.

If you leap into a lamp post while holding Up, you can hold Up and Down to climb up and Down. If you hold Left or Right and hold Button 1, you can spin around until you turn into a fireball, then launch yourself in the direction you held when you release 1.

You'll need to wait for the guy jumping in place while throwing shurikens to make his way down before hitting him. You can also deflect the guy's shurikens with your sword.

Hold Up and Down in front of a ladder to climb up and down it.

The gunmen will fire straight ahead in the direction they are looking.

The P icon gives you a more powerful sword strike.

Press Up in front of a doorway to enter it. To destroy the gold shining blocks below, hold Down and press 1.

To wall jump, jump towards a wall, keep holding the Control Pad towards the wall, then keep jumping as quickly as you can. This will get you to the Kunai, a throwable projectible that replaces the sword, and a heart.

To grab onto the horizontal poles, hold Up while jumping into it to hold up. Up and 2 lets you climb up, while Down and 2 let you drop down, even when you're on top of the pole. To rocket yourself up, hold Up, then hold 1 until you are in fireball form and release. You'll blast through all the blocks, and you can use Left or Right to move to the side in case you need to get somewhere.

To beat Kabuto, keep throwing Kunai at him. If he sends fireballs at you, try to get under them. He has his usual size for the first form, but he gets small enough that you have to duck to hit him in the second form. Having the Kunai here makes it extremely easy to wipe him out.
