PrinceWatercress plays Karate Kid (NES) AGAIN - The Longplay


Not surprisingly, I decided to do another longplay for this game. I might as well, right?


Level 1


This is so easy. Just keep pressing the B button to kick just like you will during the rest of the game, because using the A button to punch is useless because it gets you killed every time. Yes, the punch has no range and it really sucks. So don't use it. Ever.

If you hold Left or Right and press B, you won't use your Crane Kicks.

Up lets you jump, and Down lets you duck. Left and Right let you move left and right.

All you have to do in Level 1 is to stand there and kick them when they get close. Congratulations, you just won the tournament from the first movie.

Level 2


This level begins the story arc of the second movie. This one is pretty straightforward. Just run right and kick people. If you press Up in front of certain doorways throughout the game, you'll enter bonus stages where you earn points and extra special attacks. At least the Drum Punches actually work.

If for some reason, you find either the girl or Mr. Miyagi floating in mid-air during this or the next stage, touch them to refill your life. They'll refill more of it than the Crane Kick power-ups you see popping up throughout the stages will, and you'll also get points.

At the top is your health, followed by the map, which shows how far in the stage you are. You have your score, your Drum Punches and your Crane Kicks to the right of your health and the map.

You can only have two enemies on screen at any time. If you can get them both behind you and have them follow you around successfully, you can get through parts of the stages without having to fight any enemies.

At the end is Chozen. If you have any Crane Kicks, use them on him. They'll do hellacious damage on him and end the stage rather quickly.

There are three bonus stages in this game. The first is the swinging hammer, and you'll need to press the A button at the right to dodge the hammer, which will get faster with each swing. Getting the timing on the swing can be quite difficult. The second is the Chopsticks Fly Catch. Use the Control Pad to move around and move the chopsticks, and press A when a fly is near the chopsticks to catch it. The third is the Ice Blocks Break. The more filled up the power gauge in the upper-left corner is, the more ice blocks you will break. The better you do at a bonus stage, the more points, Drum Punches and Crane Kicks you will get.

You'll get an extra life at every 20,000 points. I get a few while farming on crane kicks and points to make the game easier to beat.

Level 3


In this stage, the storm winds blow you back. Birds and twigs that fly through the stage do damage if they hit, but you can get extra points from hitting the birds.

Once again, if you can get two enemies behind you, this stage can become a lot easier.

Make use of any doorways that lead to bonus areas, as they can get some enemies out of your way in case the enemies are giving you a hard time.

When you reach the end, you may fight Chozen again. He's just as easy, but if you can just go up the ladder and touch the girl, you can skip that entirely.

Level 4


The guys with spears take two hits. They do a lot of damage, so use any Drum Punches you have to get rid of them unless you don't have any. Sometimes they'll walk through the hills where you can't hit them, which is really strange.

Rocks will roll from either end of the screen. Jump over them when they come.

The boss is Chozen, this time also wearing something different just like you. Let him come to you at the left end of the platform, and keep kicking. You'll bring him down. If he gets far enough to the right to push the girl into the water, you'll lose a life.

And that's it. You just get a one-screen ending with Mr. Miyagi winking. Enjoy!
