L'Abbaye des Morts on...Genesis?

So thanks to PlayOnRetro, there is a Genesis/Mega Drive port with a couple different graphics modes (with level layout differences between each) and a simulation of the C64 SID Chip in C64 graphics mode. Interesting stuff.

DeceasedCrab plays L'Abbaye des Morts - Part 3 of 3

And now, the final battle with Satan himself!

Head back into the evil church and keep heading to the right. Crawl under the skeleton that walks on the ceiling. When you reach Satan with all 12 crosses, the crosses will make up platforms that will lead to a chalice. Neither the crosses or the chalice will appear if you don't have all 12 crosses at this point. Carefully jump to the platforms and avoid the fireballs, then jump to the chalice. When you grab the chalice, you've won! Satan leaves a message which says "Your fate will not be by my hands but human hands." The Crusaders show up, accuse Jean Raymond of sitting on Satan's throne and capture him. Jean Raymond is burned at the stake and dies like he does in game. Thankfully, he goes to heaven. Poor guy.

Well, getting all those crosses didn't take long.

Go back to the Wheel of Faith before you enter this door so that it shows the Christian cross, then go back to the newly-opened door. You can now get the cross here. Avoid both the hanged men and the snakes, and hit the switch before you jump up to the top of the tree.

Head back to the area below the dragon and go down. Leap off the edge of the right-most platform near where you dropped down. You'll land on an invisible platform. Leap to the switch to gain entrance to the evil church.

You'll have to time your jumps in order to avoid the devils and the skeleton's arrows. The message here says "Glide through the bast cage." Go right and jump over the lava pits and fireballs (or under the fireballs, if you prefer) to score another Cathar cross. Then, leave this evil place.

Head back to where the fireball is. Go to the platform with the heart on it and get the cross. You'll have to set the Wheel of Faith to the Cathar cross to get this one.

Take the portal under the dragon. Since you pulled the switch at that tree to the right of the underground entrance, the door here is opened. Avoid the Grim Reaper and his sickles to get the final cross.

DeceasedCrab plays L'Abbaye des Morts - Part 1 of 3

Programmed in just two weeks to resemble a ZX Spectrum game, this indie game is a blast to play...if you're prepared to dodge stuff.

Oh, and I just noticed that I've had this one sitting around and that this should have been posted almost a year-and-a-half ago. Might as well share it now.

Jean Raymond of the Cathar faith is being chased by the Crusaders as the Cathars are being expelled from the Catholic Church and from the Languedoc region of Southern France.

Go to the right and enter the abbey. There's no turning back after this. At the altar, you'll find a message: "Twelve brothers hid and died here." Hmmmm...

The plaques with the cross act as checkpoints when you touch them. If you get hit by an enemy, you'll return to the last one you touched.

Go upwards and hit the bell, then go right and grab the cross, avoiding the spiders on the way there. "Twelve crosses against the evil," the message says.

Head back to the altar. Part of the floor near the door will open. Go down. Jump over the skeletons to get the cross, then go left. The message here says "Four brothers changed their faith."

Unless you need the heart from getting hit at least once, avoid touching the heart as you go further left.

You'll see a fireball. Avoid it as you go down. The message here says "Jump to death and prove your faith." Go back up and leap into left end of the spike pit below. The spikes are fake, and if you move to the left, you'll get the cross that was near the message.

Go to the left. You'll see an upside-down Catholic cross. You cannot pick this up. Instead, go back to the right and crawl through the narrow passage to the right by holding Down as you move. Avoid the skeletons and their arrows as you collect the cross to the right and turn the Wheel of Faith to turn the upside-down crosses into the collectible ones...and vice versa. You can duck under the arrows if you need to.

Go back to the left to where you found that upside-down cross. It's a Cathar cross now. Go up and you'll find a portal that takes you to another part of the caves. Above you will be a dragon, but you won't be able to get the cross here just yet. Leave the portal alone for now. If you haven't changed the Wheel of Faith back to a Cathar cross, do so now. Then go back and take the set of platforms on the left to go for the switch near the dragon.

Go back to the portal and enter it. Get the cross here, then go up and get the cross there, too. "An invisible path over a wooden bridge," the message says.

Head back to the altar above ground. The door here is opened.
