PrinceWatercress plays Kid Niki 3 - Part 1 of 4

It's the same as the first two Kid Niki games: the princess is kidnapped; you rescue her.

Stage 1

A lets you jump, B lets you attack, and Left and Right allow you to move around. You can do upwards and downward strikes like in Zelda II with Up+B and Down+B respectively (although you can get in trouble doing the downward stab, and the upward stab can also be done on the ground), and if you hold the Control Pad towards a wall and press B, you can launch off a wall. You can also slide down a wall by doing this and holding B, then letting go of B at the right time to get to where you need to go. Down+A allows you to slide through narrow corridors and under enemies.

Your health bar is in the upper-left corner along with the amount of keys that you have.

Pick up keys to open locked doors. Coins give you points, and if you pick up twenty in a stage, you can enter a bonus stage. Scrolls will make you glow red and become temporarily invincible. Hearts will restore health, with the small ones replenishing a bit and the big ones replenishing about half the health bar.

Enemies here include ninjas that run back and forth, shurikens with feet that move back and forth, and robots that bounce towards you. The staff - whether it be through actually striking enemies with it or through the projectiles that you shoot out every time you attack - will easily take care of them all.

The wells will shoot fireballs, and the white robots will crawl across the ground and shoot at you.

Hold B at the gray switch to trigger it.

To beat the boss, move under him as he hops around, then stay just left of center when he returns to the right side of the room and shoot projectiles at him. If you're standing in the right spot, the fireballs he shoots will not hurt you at all. If your "right" foot is on the light part of the small square in the center of the room, you're standing in the right place. You'll soon empty the boss' life bar - which is directly under yours - in no time.

When you get 20 coins, you'll enter a icon matching bonus stage where you break balloons to uncover icons. If all three icons match, you get a special prize such as extra lives and stronger projectiles. Otherwise, you'll just get bonus points.

Stage 2

The first enemy you see here will be a cherub statue-like enemy that shoots water at you with clearly visible genitalia.

You'll eventually have to swim in the water, and you'll have to keep pressing B in order to swim while avoiding mines that move up and down as well as sharks that move back and forth. As a matter of fact, you'll have to avoid everything, as you cannot attack underwater at all. Other enemies include ducks that swim on the surface of the water and spit fish out.

The princess head refills your health completely.

At one point, you'll have to leap out of the water, then you'll have to leap to the right off the very edge to find a key. Also, if you're out of the water, you can attack the sharks.

The bomb destroys all on-screen enemies when you pick it up.

The boss here is some diver guy with a trident. Stay across from him and watch what he does - either his three-way shot followed by running to the other end of the room, or a mid-air diving attack - and jump around to avoid the shots as well as the boss himself. When he stops moving, hit him with a projectile. After enough practice, you'll know what to do and you'll be able to take him down in no time.
